Why do people seem to dislike It's a Small World?

It's not my total favourite, but I love it. I love the boats, the music, guessing the countries and places, the sheer colourfulness of it all. It brings a smile to my face.

I feel happy when I exit the ride.

As to why IASM is disliked? Well, firstly, because different people have different tastes. I for example do not care about parades, or Toy Story, or celebrities in attraction videos. Others might. Some will connect to IASM, others won't.

And I do think there is some sort of 'mob mentality' amongst Disney fans. All groups tend towards similar opinions - it's how groups form, how they connect, and Disney fans are a group like all others.

It's one of my favorite rides. I love it because it's a classic, the music instantly reminds me of Disney, it's cool and refreshing and a nice break from the heat. It is colorful with a ton to look at. I just get confused when Disneyfreaks like most everyone on here is, hates the ride because to me it is everything Disney represents.

Here here to all that you stated!

This ride is so Disney!

I thoroughly enjoy the first trip thru. Any more than that I can't handle.

Because one night when your sleeping the IASW dolls will be coming to get you, armed with a hypnotic song and some sharp knives, they will drain your blood and use your rotting corpse as scenery

This reminds me of a scene from Kingdom Keepers. Creepy. :lookaroun

its a classic ride. however, the song gets annoying after a while, and to kids, those dolls are scary. one time we went on, and a little girl and boy in front of us got so scared, they tried to get out of the boat in the beg. of the ride.

I love it. Relentlessly optimistic, but in a way that's believable (to me, anyway).

For my money, no single attraction better sums up the "Disney" worldview in a way that you can take back to the real world...other than maybe Reflections of Earth.

There are really not a lot of people who outright hate it. We just like to make fun of it a bit. Especially guys - "no please don't make me go through the house-o-dolls again!". And even Disney pokes fun at it in The Lion King, when Zazu sings "It's a smaall world aaaahfter all" and Scar says "No - anything but that!".

True if you go on it more than once, you get the song stuck in your head and can't get it out, and that in itself is annoying.

So I like to poke fun at it, too. But I wouldn't miss it on any trip to WDW if I could help it!

However, even the hardest guys find it absolutely charming. It is truly a classic. I remember riding it at the NY world's fair, and how marvelous it was. Who could miss visiting a bit of history? Not me.

The ride is ok, but when you have heard the same song over and over again and then get stuck on the boat because of the back ups, it gets insanely intolerable. Even my three year old was holding her ears saying, "Make it stop! I can't take it anymore!". Plus with the water all around, she had to potty. It never failed. Anytime we got on a ride and there was water, she always had to potty.. even if she just went! :hammer: Ugh.

If you read Kingdom Keepers, you would understand!!

"Behind them, when they were no longer looking, one of the British dolls snapped its glued feet off the deck of the display...They were swiming!...One bit down onto Finn's arm, locking its jaw. It drew blood."

That ride will always creep me out after reading that! It's like Disney meets Chuckie!!!:lookaroun:eek:

It freaks me out! I don't know why but it is really really creepy to me. I always get tense and I'm rushing out of the boat when we get back to the station. I will ride it occasionally, but I try to avoid it like the plague.

Honestly, I think it is a mob mentality thing. It is kind of hip to hate IASW.

I am in your camp...I love the attraction and think it represents true Disney values.
Ditto
You could always give a listen to the rendition of the IASW song that's on one of the Disney Mania cds. I think it was covered by the Baha Men or something like that. It's...well...different...and gives a whole new appreciation to the classic version. Truly.
VERY different LOL:lol:

I don't really hate IASW ... it's just that it's a rather pointless ride. When I'm at Disney I have better things to do. It's not fun like the Tea Cups or exciting like RNRC or engaging like Festival of the Lion King or interesting like Living with the Land.

IF there is no wait at all I might go on it if my family group really wants to, but otherwise I avoid it. Even as a young child I couldn't stand it, at least I've become tolerant of the song.
