I hate to tell you this about Caribbean Beach Resort...

My cousin just came back from her trip, and her, her husband and her two kids all had to go to the Doctor for welts they had all over their bodies, UGGHHH it was bed bug bites! She was freaked because she had no experience with bed bugs before and she said the itching was crazy and had NO CLUE what the welts were.

She complained to the hotel and spoke to the manager. But I'm afraid that the resort will do nothing about it....I really like the Caribbean Beach but now I don't want to stay there!

You should not report these things when in fact this is not true.A disney lawyer should contact you shortly. There was no report of this in the hotel log?

Okiiiie then. Because I have a personal vendetta against Caribbean beach resort right? (note my sarcasm) :zipit:

Maybe I don't know your humor and your kidding, in that case....

If your not kidding, in that case.... :lookaroun

I have no problem with somebody reporting an "issue" which may or may not be widespread at CBR....what I do have a problem with is arrogance and ignorance (especially from someone who has been on this board for so long) which is directed at people from a country other than your own - I've been in some pretty disgusting establishments in the U.S., so I don't think you can lay claim to being the superior hygenic country! The bedbugs are the issue - not people's nationality.

How about compensation for medical expenses to start with?

What medical expenses? A bedbug bite does not require a trip to the doctor's or the hospital. You wash them off and if they have been scratched open put on some antibiotic ointment. You may even want to take some benadryl for the itching. They are no worse than a mosquito bite and just as annoying.

I can see the manager offering a change of room if another was available, but if they were looking for a refund or a comp of some kind...

Its not a fun thing to deal with, but any traveler has to be ready to deal with them, they are all over the US and Europe. Once the cycle dies down we won't hear about them again for a few years.

LOL yarly, last time I checked bedbug bites are no worse than mosquito bites. :p

Bed Bug bites are horrible to deal with. I've had them before but not only do they itch but they hurt too. I got bit all up my arm and onto my fingers and let me tell you they hurt!

Oh yeah and by the way I'm always clean :D

Yall are making me itch :lookaroun

Anywhere can have this problem. You can actually get some Febreze antimicrobal spray from any store and just keep your bed sprayed once a month and you will be fine. I take this on all of my trips when I have to stay at a hotel and just spray it down before I will sleep in it. You know that most hotel beds are refurbished matresses anyways :hurl:

I'm pretty sure Febreeze Antimicrobal spray won't destroy the little creatures. It takes professionals to get rid of these things. As for taking matters into your own hands, please see my post below...

- If you think your hotel room has bed bugs call management immediately. Don't take matters in your own hands and spray them with a bug spray or disinfectant spray - this will only cause them to move and make it harder for the "professionals" to find them.

Actually what you might not realize is that bedbugs attack a certain type of host...not an international one since they rarely check for passports but they do attack small minded bigots so while just about every other person on this board should be fine I would stock up on a lot of bedbug repellent if I were you

It's statements like this that set civil rights back 50 years. Think (don't drink) before you type

Bedbugs are found all over the world and are very prevalent in US hotels, no matter what demographic the clientel is....and trust me...Americans are not known worldwide for their great hygiene, it's nothing to brag about

Ok, lets get down off of that Canadian Mountie high horse you're on and read what the post'er was stating. It is a well known fact that bed bugs infestations did in fact increase due to the last decade of international travel (see this report Masetti, Massimo and Bruschi, Fabrizio "Bedbug Infestations recorded in Central Italy" Parasitology International Volume 56, Issue 1, March 2007, p81-83) So lets clear that up now.

And as far as Americans (I'm a Canadian just in case you cared)are concerned they are not un-clean by any means. They are clean freaks. You have to know this. They have some type of pill or wipe for evey little thing you could possibly think of.

I can however think of a special group of Canadians that are commonly known to have unsavory cleaning habits, you know the ones located just to north of Maine USA, so you becareful who puts who back 50 years in the civil rights market. Now drop that bever tail and finish up your poutine before you got to bed.

What everyone has to understand with the value of the dollar falling you are getting more international tourist in Disney World. Because of that some people around the world dont maintain the same hygiene as most Americans do.

apparently all those stinky americans i've met in my life were really stinky foreigners in disguise clouding our perceptions of stinkiness.

not the dumbest post i've ever read, but the competition for that title is pretty stiff...

I'm really not looking to get into an argument with you...I only want to clarify what I was saying to the other poster.

I don't think they should be calling other cultures "unclean" I have traveled all over the world (lived in the US for 3 years) and have found that the USA isn't any "cleaner" than other countries. This includes my travels to Europe, South America, the Middle East and Africa. In all places INCLUDING the states you will find cleaner areas than others.

AND...I never said that Americans were unclean...I said that it's nothing to brag about especially when the issue of bedbugs has nothing to do with cleanliness.

I'm not sure why you are so hostile about this since all I wanted to point out (like MANY other people did on this board) that the comment was uncalled for. I don't just sit by and allow people to make comments like this, I just wouldn't feel right allowing someone to slander other cultures with their backwards biases.

and, no, I don't care whether you are Canadian or not, I only wanted to reply because I thought perhaps you misunderstood my comment and got overly hostile and insulting for no reason. btw Ontario and New Brunswick are north of Maine so if you have a problem with them tell someone from there and I have never in my life eaten beavertails or poutine, I don't even know if they have them here...would you like it if I commented on your province's fondness for polygamy, incest, tainted beef, and "cowboy" brains (ie talk sloooowww and use little words so they can understand you) you probably wouldn't and I don't believe any of those stereotypes I just wanted to show you how stupid it is to allow biases like that on this board.

I hope I have made my point

For the other posters on this thread...sorry for getting so off topic but I felt I had to reply

I just re-read the original post and it seems the people who were staying at the resort perhaps didn't contact the manager until after they got home from their trip. Is this the case? Does anyone else read it that way?

I would be interested to know what happens with this case and if anyone else has contacted the resort and asked if this is an ongoing problem. (not that they would necessarily say..."Oh yes, bed bugs we have TONS of them...they're called, Happy and Dopey and Sleepy....") But they may acknowledge that it HAS been a problem anyway.

anyone who thinks that all americans are hygenic

a: never drove down to wdw and

b: never made a pit stop at South of the Border.

If you've been there, you know I'm right.

Walt Disney World Resort does have a broad-based pest management preventative program in place that is administered by highly trained personnel. In addition, a daily inspections process is utilized by our resort staff. Our pest management program exceeds industry standards.

It is not uncommon in the State of Florida to occasionally experience issues with insects. If something is ever found, our highly trained pest management team treats immediately. The Guest room, to include the rooms above, below and nearby the Guest room, are thoroughly treated. Our highly trained Pest Control team will assist the Guest with inspecting personnel clothing and belongings should a situation arise. Should you have specific treatment requirements, or if you see anything in your Guest room, we will certainly do everything we can to accommodate your requests and / or respond with appropriate treatment.

According to public health experts, bed bugs are not known to transmit any infectious agents. For more information, Guests should contact their local Public Health Department, the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), or personal physician for more information. The Orange Country Public Health Department can be contacted at 407-836-2600. The United States Department of Health and Human Services can be contacted at 1-877-696-6775 or via their website at www.hhs.gov.

Come on. We all know that Bed Bugs at disney are caused by Universal execs who book rooms and smuggle them in little jars and spread them all over the place.:)

There are so many more expenses to an encounter with bed bugs than just medical expenses!

Helpful hint if you do get bitten by bedbugs on vacation - when you unpack, leave your suitcase OUTSIDE the house and bring clothes in and wash in hottest water possible. They are prone to "hitch" a ride in your clothes and suitcase and you could bring them home. :hurl: Personally, I try to bring home better souleniers!:ROFLOL:

They will not have to go to that extent as there are less extreme ways to get rid of them. Also just replacing the mattresses does not always get rid of them. The rooms will need to be stripped to the walls and steam cleaned and treated with inceticide. If possible they will need to raise the temperature in the rooms to 120 degrees or greater for several hours to guarantee a kill of all the eggs.

What did she expect the manager to do? Was this at the beginning of their stay, middle or end? There has been an epidemic of sorts with bedbugs and they are everywhere, from the cheapest motel to 5 star resorts (its a cyclical thing), heck you can even get them at home and it doesn't matter how clean you are.

There was a thread not too long ago on this very subject. I'm sure Disney is very aware of the problem and is taking care of it, you just may not see them in action.

All you have to do is google "bed bugs" and/or "bed bug clean up" to read hundreds of stories of people who have had to go through h -e - double hockey sticks to get rid of them! Some people bring them home from a trip and then spend weeks and thousands of dollars trying to get them out of their home.

I'm no bug control expert, so I can't say how extreme things would get, but I've heard of people having to box up everything they own, wash down their furniture, leave it outside and then let the exterminators have at it in their house for two weeks or so.

Ripping up carpet, telling my kids they can't have their stuffed animals for a three weeks (or that they have to go in the trash!), etc. Not my idea of fun!

This little fellow came in uninvited back in October/November and made himself at home before I evicted him to the shrubberies outside the door.
