You need to realize that alot of folks are feeling that way, not just Disney. The economy has everyone feeling like is this the day I go to work & I am told sorry we need to cut your position for the companys bottom line ( MONEY).

I have no answer for you, but please turn off the Caps lock. Typing in all caps is akin to shouting & considered rude. Thanks

Wait, so on the last 4 trips you visibly noticed that the CMs have become unhappy?! Can you give some examples?

Though Walt may have cared great deals for his CMs, he was also a business man. I'm sure he would have done everything he could before he'd have to lay someone off, but in this economy, not even HE could avoid layoffs.

Good question

Well, with the economy nowadays, it is expected. I won't be surprised if I don't get the same service as from 7 years ago...

EDIT: But perhaps you just seen some with a bad day...

Why is it that you must scream in all caps? I also have to ask where the "jobs inoperations" department is, because that sounds new to me...

Your lack of punctuation and grammar along with the overall look of your post which has now burned into my retinas certainly made this more of a pain to read than these cast members seem to be in.

I'm glad to say that this is news to me that cast members are unhappy in their jobs overall... Sure, there are those that don't like to work, but you can't expect that to represent the majority. And maybe its just me, but I don't think the cast members are doing their jobs if they are openly complaining to guests (don't shoot me for saying it). If my limited understanding of cast member training and policy proves my memory correct, cast members are supposed to be happy in front of guests in the best way possible. If you've been getting honest comments from certain cast members about their unhappiness during your visit, then I believe they aren't working the way they should.

It is certainly hard to judge the validity of the arguement presented, especially when it seems to be more of an opinion piggybacking on visually-broken shards of glass, but I find this entire thread disturbing to say the least. I have had nothing but extremely pleasant experiences with the varying casts in each and every one of my visits to Walt Disney World (and to the other Disney resorts), so I'm surprised to hear such negative remarks (but remember, I'm a positive one around these parts). It is one thing to have a cast member complain when he/she is offstage or out of the workplace, but to hear about complaints onstage--I'd put in a comment to guest relations so they can fix the situation easily. If there is one thing I know about guest relations is that, if there is a serious issue at hand, they will do everything in their power to resolve it so that the guest is "always right" and "always happy."

Hopefully your response doesn't damage my eyes any further...

p.s. I thought GSM was a cellphone network system...

Welcome to today's economy

I've been to Disney many, many, many times, and even recently the cast members were nothing but happy, helpful, and joking. It's the main reason Disney is the only place we vacation. Only a couple times have I ever had cast members seem upset about working conditions, once about a year and a half ago, I had flourescent pink highlights in my hair, and a cm looked at me with doleful eyes and said "Oh I miss my atomic pink, but I had to get rid of it to work here"
Then there was this one other time when I was paying for something and my cm was an elderly gentleman and we were discussing drink prices at MK. Offhandedly I said I was surprised they didn't charge for the bathrooms yet, to which he leaned in real close and quickly whispered SHHHHHHH! don't give them any ideas... and looked around real fast. I thought I was gonna die laughing...
aside from that, the cms seem totally in character whenever I deal with them. :)

I don't think you could be anymore condescending, but then again I could be wrong. What a way to welcome a fairly new member to the boards here. They have already been chastised about improper caps lock usage you didn't need to just rip them to shreds. I have read posts about people on this board having snobbish attitudes like you, but I thought, "no not here!" Then I run in to this post and find that people like you do exist. Wow. Makes me not want to visit here anymore. Makes me :hurl:.
But that's my $.02. Now I'm sure you will find something wrong with my comment and attempt to rip me to shreds. Well if it makes you feel so good I say go ahead.

I have a feeling that this new poster is possibly a disgruntled CM and is projecting their feelings, for whatever reasons, onto the whole of the MK CM's. I have rarely encountered unhappy employees and echo CheshireCat sentiments on why I vacation there.

I felt that my response was in no way ripping the OP to shreds, but there are certain forms of etiquette on forums that should be followed. And if you note, the OP is no more of a new member to the forums than you are--both of you joined back in September of 2007 but have posted very little in your time here.

You'll find that I'm one of the least cynical here, but I guess my one flaw is a complete intolerance for all things improper when posting. My eyes can only handle so much, especially when looking at the forums on a 42 inch screen at work--all caps shows up rediculously large on a Vizio screen if that gives you any idea.
I in no way meant any harm, but the fact of the matter is, it hurt to read the original post. Once I was able to get past that, I did respond to the topic at hand and provided my opinion on the situation based on what little information was given in the post itself. Maybe I came off a little abrasive, but the aggresive tone and the shocking appearance of the post didn't make this poster seem like one that was either inexperienced or unintentionally posting in the manner he/she did.

Again, if I came off in the wrong light, I apologize to the original poster, but I feel that I was within reason to express the discomfort that arose with the original post's formatting.

I'm still waiting to hear back and see what additional information the poster can provide us with so that we know more about what may have triggered his experiences.

For the most part, we always have great encounters with CMs. We have only been displeased once in the last 4 years. That was at the BBBoutique at DTD. One of my daughters fairy GM was very mean and disrespectful. We complained to her manager and got the service comped, but we'll never do it again. One bad experience in 4 years is a great service record if you ask me. Tour groups on the other hand...

You aren't alone. I am mostly a lurker here but this type of post almost made my eyes bleed. Sadly people these days seem to not be able to effectively communicate without the use of all caps and three hundred exclamation points behind what they are posting. It reminded me of anchor man where Brick yells "LOUD NOISES!!!!!!!".

Also to the original poster I cannot think of any job or any career where all employees are happy. Maybe those who are self employed and their own bosses might fall into that category. Even in a magical place such as Disney there are angry, sad, and aggravated employees. Even though it's a magical place for us it's still ultimately a business.

GSM is Guest Service Manager~FYI

Saw that ? on an earlier post. I think everyone is kinda having to cope with what's going on in the economy right now. You also have to think about it being so hot right now, summer crowds, long hours, and being stretched very thin. I also think a lot of cast members are a little sad at the recent loss of one of their members. Sometimes we ask a lot of these cast members and sometimes we should give them a break. Cast members are a dime a dozen!:D

I have to admit my last visit to Disney World I ran into a few unhappy Cast Members. We did go around the time of Grad nites and there were a bunch of rude teenagers so I am sure patients were wearing thin! I know mine were. The one day that sticks out is our day at Hollywood Studios. Now I will be the first to admit the way some guests leave their trash after Fantasmic is disgusting! I always feel bad that the Cast Members literally have to pick up after people. One night we were exiting the show and a Cast Member was standing on the bleacher with the broom over his head yelling "You people made this mess, you should stay here and clean it up!" I was surprised that he would be saying this. I know it must be fustarting and I would love to yell at everyone too, but I don't think it was appropiate for the cast member. But I have to say the number of happy, helpful Cast Members that I met out weigh the one's who are having a bad day!
