Magic kingdom cast not happy

Just thought I should point out- in many countries at counter service type restaurants and cafes you are expected to leave your tray and dishes on the table to be bussed. So in some instances the trash may be left there just because they don't know any different.
True. I had friend who would do that always.

But the people I always see at WDW were not from foreign countries at all.

I can only applaud the restraint that these CMs have. I give these folks kudos for being able to put on a happy face when they have to deal with as_holes all day long.

I go out of my way to thank CMs when they are doing an outstanding job. In fact, I've made some "thank you" cards to hand out to them. They do seem to appreciate that guests see them doing a great job.

Where I work part time, we have 'recognition' cards to give to fellow TM to thank them. And it does feel good knowing that you are appreciated, because you don't always receive that feedback.

Howard Johnson is right!

I mean, just dead. Yeah there are exceptions (No disrespect Ad/Lib area, I'm rooting for you guys, know that.) But just dead at Magic Kingdom. I'd be dead if I worked there in the summer too.
:dazzle:

I mean today I noticed almost IMMEDIATELY the Cast Members at Epcot seemed much more alive, and were going above and beyond.

Kingdom's just so darn stressful.

It's hard to believe that people are being people? Every now and then you can run into some CM that is not doing his job properly. I just know that Disney just an amazing job with hiring the people that work there and teaches them what the appropriate attitude is. I do not think that any ill-tempered employee is due to the economy.
In a week this will be my third trip to Disney this year from Texas and the several times that we have been we have had several "Magical" encounters with CMs.
On August 4th I am getting married at WDW and hope that the CMs are just as wonderful as they were the two previous times we have visited.

:sohappy:YEAH DISNEY!! :sohappy:
(sorry had to do it...)

This is one of the most ignorant, uninformed statements I've ever read on these boards.

I agree, I was a CP and to be honest the CPs in my department seemed to care much more about their role than quite a few of the FTers. Not saying they were "rude" or "bad" at their job, the CPs just had a great passion for it.

....plus its "COULDN'T" care less :brick:

As a MK CM, the OP's comments offend me. I work six day weeks, well over 50 hours a week, and some very long days, and I feel like I do a great job being happy all day and all night. It helps that I love my job, but still, it's not always easy smiling all day. Thank you to the majority of you (in fact, almost all of you) who defended the MK cast.

We wouldn't have a job without wonderful guests like you, and it truly is you guys that make the job fun, so for that, thanks. But to the OP and others who think we are rude, back off a little. Sure, there are some disgruntled CMs. I've seen them, I work with some of them, and I hate what they do and think they should be let go. But regardless, I think that 99% of the MK cast does a great job, so relax.

And I am in operations or inoperations if you will, and nothing has changed. I have no idea what this "crack down" you speak of really is.

I haven't been to WDW in a little over a year but I just came back from Disneyland a couple of weeks ago. While there the CMs both at the hotel and at the parks were very nice and helpful and never gave us any kind of indication that anything was wrong even though its obvious that the economy effect everyone including the House of the Mouse. From the bell desks, to the valet, to the CMs in the parks even the CMs in the World of Disney were all very gracious and kind.

You can almost always find what you are looking for.

Look for a grumpy CM
Look for a burned out lightbulb
Look for a few clouds in an otherwise sunny sky

I'm sure you'll find them, congratulations!

You hit the nail right on the head! And it is just going to get worst unless Disney starts hiring again.

You can't rely on your majority workforce of CPs who could care less about being there and only want to party. All of the leaders now have the responsibility they were hired for and they cant handle it. I don't see anything wrong with the "fat trimming" of the management who sat in their offices all day playing on the internet (I am witness to this) and shoved their job off on coordinators and lead CMs. But in all, yes the moral is down and you would have to be around it everyday all day long to see it. I wouldn't consider someone who takes a week vacation an expert in spotting this problem. Your just not seeing the real picture.

In my experience the CPs are some of the best cast members. They tend to be energetic, friendly, and excited to be there.

If anything, CPs pick up "negative attitudes" because they get there, full of excitment and ready to makes dreams come true, and then their first day are told "the realities" by some of the cranky FTers.

Why would we move, some of us from around the globe, to come to a job just to be cranky? We come, knowing full well we will be paid next to nothing, to work at our dream jobs.

Am I saying every CP is great? No. Am I saying every FT is great? No.

But to lump every CP into a group of "people who couldn[n't] care less about their job and are only there to party" (I am paraphrasing) isn't fair to me or any other CP who comes and works just as hard, for half the pay of what many people around them are making.

the Magic Kingdom cast have some of the most tedious hours! Although that should be no reason they are not "happy"

They do have long hours and it amazes me how the CPs/ younger CMs in general have time to party. I wonder if the disgruntled, not living up to the general guests standards CMs are sometimes the CPs and younger CMs who partied all night and show up with hang overs the next day barely able to do their jobs or the CMs who get stuck carrying the load because of the ones still too drunk or hung over in the morning who call out? I know this is not the majority of the CMS that do this, but there is a small percentage that does . We have had to change plans and rearrange our lives several times because of it happening.

Same things happens in most service jobs across the board when someone calls out. The workers on the job who show up and actually do their jobs everyday end up a little disgruntled because now they are doing the job of 2 or 3 or are unable to leave as scheduled because no one has shown up to relieve them. All CMs are human with lives outside of work, too. They mostly show the stage image to the world; but sometimes it might just slip for a second. Things that normally would not give them a second thought might urk them the wrong way and the smile might disappear until they find a reason to smile or they might not bend over backwards to please the next guest etc. like they normally would.

I can tell you from experience that the quality of a CM has nothing to do with their age, seniority, or whether they are full time, part time, seasonal, or college program.

It has everything to do with the individual and their work ethic and attitude. There are great and bad CMs in every category.

That is just fine...as long as it stays backstage.

Exactly! Sometimes, you have to grit your teeth and smile, then go to the bathroom and flush the toilet so no one can hear your swearing. Not that this retired nurse ever did such a thing. :lookaroun
