Magic kingdom cast not happy

If caps lock offends you, you must have an easy, sheltered life.

I can remember one unhappy CM in the last few years. Or are us DVC people sheltered? :D

I will say that, in our dept, there was definitely some tension. GSMs were being told there would be cutbacks on their level, and then left to wait for weeks before they actually came. The entire mood was completely sour, and I know some of my fellow CMs were unable to keep their "moods" backstage.

I was less bothered by the all caps then by the barely recognizable as english post itself. Get real - if you can't type a coherent post, just don't...and yes, I really mean that. Your spelling or punctuation can have errors, no problems there, but when the entire post is such a grammatical mess then it's hard to read. The posting comes across as being written by a semi-literate drunk! :brick:

Just turn that pesky Caps Lock into the BILLY MAYS KEY!

But wait, there's more! Ever since the beginning people have been complaining about Disney CM not living up to their incredibly high expectations and distorted past memories.

With no examples, poor grammar and web etiquette, and a new poster, I have no reason to take anything this person says with more than a grain of salt...

Yea...I don't know what this person is talking about. If anything Management in my area has vastly improved the past 6 months. I couldn't be happier with my area right now.

LONG LIVE AD/LIB!:D

From the vibe i'm getting at the moment the cast like there jobs but are getting fustrated with the lack of rehiring to replace CM's who have left, so in turn they are getting an unmanageable workload, then add to this the CM's are annoyed with not seeing their managers for days at a time since the layoffs, and area co-ordinators getting to the end of there tether because they have been burdened with more resposibities because of the layoffs and yet are not recieving any addition compensation. Oh yes this is the vibe i get across the whole of wdw not just MK. I think it is easy to say CM moral is near rock bottom in most areas at the mo.

In my opinion i don't see how companies can see this whole layoff thing helping them. In my mind layoffs = less money in community which in the course of things = more people not buying products which in turn stimulates the economy. :brick:

I do understand that gift shop and dining sales are down; however, the parks are still bursting at the seams. I guess layoffs are possible in areas where sales are down, i.e. smaller gift shops closing and consolidating cast members who work in mechandising; however, I doubt that anyone will see lay offs in attractions. As long as there are guests, someone has to operate attractions. Crowds are not down significantly. Heck, I planned my trip during the "value" season in January. It was worse than when I went during Christmas. I think jobs at WDW, at least in the parks, are fairly safe now.

I have to admit my last visit to Disney World I ran into a few unhappy Cast Members. We did go around the time of Grad nites and there were a bunch of rude teenagers so I am sure patients were wearing thin! I know mine were. The one day that sticks out is our day at Hollywood Studios. Now I will be the first to admit the way some guests leave their trash after Fantasmic is disgusting! I always feel bad that the Cast Members literally have to pick up after people. One night we were exiting the show and a Cast Member was standing on the bleacher with the broom over his head yelling "You people made this mess, you should stay here and clean it up!" I was surprised that he would be saying this. I know it must be fustarting and I would love to yell at everyone too, but I don't think it was appropiate for the cast member. But I have to say the number of happy, helpful Cast Members that I met out weigh the one's who are having a bad day!

I know his behavior may be "unDisney," but I often get angry at the way these idiots leave trash around. I was in line for BTMRR in January and people just leave empty cups in the queue area on props, on the ground, stick gum under the handrails....and there is a trash can every 20 feet. Disgusting, lazy, inconsiderate losers who have no business being allowed in the parks in the first place. One loser actually left his/her empty soft drink on the floor in the queue area for Philharmagic. I was so angry. You should be able to force these fools to ride ToT without the safety restraints.:mad::mad:

Amen!

It's disgusting seeing some people just get up and leave their trash lying there. When we were there in February, I saw a little kid try and pick his trash up from the table and the mother actually TOLD him to leave it as there are people who will take care of it for them. GAH!!!!

It never hurts to help out the CMs by just making sure the trash makes it into a recepticle. The way I see it, the CMs make our lives easier, why can't we help them in return.

You're not the only one. Almost every trip I had ever taken to WDW, I always spot at least one group that deliberately leaves the trash on the tables and even whole burgers or salads left to rot. Wonder if that makes them superior?

Yes, I know I jump to different points on the "unhappiness" of CMs, but stupid guests are a vital key to their aggravations...

There is a good website for CM accounts of Guest stupidity... http://stupidguesttricks.com/

I too have to admit that I have never experienced a negative attitude when interacting with a CM. In the end, they are only humans trying to make a living. I just try to remember that the conditions they have to deal with are not always so great (hot temperatures, large crowds, rude and inconsiderate guests, etc...) so I certainly would be willing to forgive the occassional CM that might not be projecting the "perfect" Disney image. I am just grateful for all that they do to enhance my visits to WDW.

I think that the economy, or at least the medias portrayal of the economy, has most everyone on pins and needles right now. It's to be expected that even Disney is not immune to what is going on in the world today.

Most CMs are never going to get rich, or even comfortable, on their Disney wages, from what I understand. The happiest CMs are either young and working there to build up a resume'. or retired from a far better paying job and doing it for fun, free passes and to keep busy. The rest, who are trying to earn a living wage on the frontlines, are often less than thrilled with things. I don't blame them. Of course, a good attitude will make them far more likely to get a promotion and/or raise.

With Universal, Sea World, and the other distractions, competition is only going to get tougher, so wages are probably going to be stagnant in many respects. This will be even worse once the Harry Potter park opens.

By the way, Walt fired lots of people, especially in the 40s and 50s. He hated labor unions, and was often feared by many of his employees. That's the bitter truth, and most biographies do not hide this fact.

Agreed with the many posts before me, I have never had a negative encounter with a CM in my many trips.

The one time i had actually heard a CM complain i met a young woman working in the emporium that was actually from my home town. We went out later that night and she had some complaining to let out, but i just kept in mind even though it is WDW it's still her job. As much as they put on the show while they are out there I'm sure the frustration builds up. Also I'm sure some eventually crack and let it out at one point unfortunately. But once again i havent encountered this "on stage" as Walt would refer to it. :D

Thank you for the link. It's dumb founding what some people do to CMs.

I can only applaud the restraint that these CMs have. I give these folks kudos for being able to put on a happy face when they have to deal with as_holes all day long.

I go out of my way to thank CMs when they are doing an outstanding job. In fact, I've made some "thank you" cards to hand out to them. They do seem to appreciate that guests see them doing a great job.

the Magic Kingdom cast have some of the most tedious hours! Although that should be no reason they are not "happy"

Just thought I should point out- in many countries at counter service type restaurants and cafes you are expected to leave your tray and dishes on the table to be bussed. So in some instances the trash may be left there just because they don't know any different.
