Haunted Mansion movie...WITHOUT EDDIE MURPHY!

I remember what really ticked me off about the last version was how they kept going on about how there was a "curse" on the mansion. And they keep telling Eddie Murphey how to break it. What curse!? Who made this curse? How did this curse come about? Who made the rules for it? It annoyed me so much.

And then at the end the Devil appears and he's like "Oh yeah, might as well drag Ramsley to hell because he's evil and all. Could've done it years ago, but I didn't feel like it then. Oh well, down with me you go Ramsley!"

And seriously, how cliche is it to have the butler end up being the murderer!? That's like the revelation of any murder mystery novel.

I hated the last movie. Can you tell?

Wow, I don't remember any of that! I think I forgot the movie as it was unspooling.

so have hit tv shows... case and point, Seinfeld. :D

Though "Story and Song of the Haunted Mansion" is more than enough plotline for me! Officially released through Disney, though everyone still argues on whether or not it's supposed to be the actual story of the attraction.

It's not. It's the story of two teenagers taking refuge from a thunderstorm in an old Mansion. The Ghost Host merely takes them on a tour of the house, but there is no storyline for the Mansion itself, nothing to tie any of the various silly spooks together. The story there is merely what Mike and Karen saw on that tour. That's all. The "official" story is "We have 999 happy haunts here. They have all retired here from creepy old crypts all over the world." No other connection from one scene to the next. (They tried adding a story with Constance, but it fails to bring it all together and was not original anyhow.)

The POTC attraction was the same way: just a series of scenes of various pirate activity. No story to tie them together, other than being pirates - until the recent additions about Cap'n Jack and treasure.

But I agree with you: The story of Mike and Karen is a good place to start!

At least there isn't an animatronic eddie murphy at the attraction now. looking foward to this new version. also saw the new tron legacy trailer. the younger looking flynn in the yellow striped outfit is supposed to be Clu, which was seen at the beggining of the first tron

I would love it if they could bring the maid back from the first movie. She was the only character I liked in the whole thing. Just don't bring back Jennifer Tilly! UGH! That was THE worst casting choice besides Murphy.

Or Clue.

I'm soooo excited for this new Haunted Mansion movie. Endless possibilities that will hopefully rival the success of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Honestly though, I'm surprised Del Torro chose Haunted Mansion over Tower of Terror. I saw the TOT movie when I was eight and really enjoyed it! Not sure how well it was received by the older crowd, but that certainly seems like it would lend itself easily to a more "horror" style film ... and it's older than the Eddie Murphy version of Haunted Mansion.

I am so excited for this!

With del Toro this movie has to be good. Even if it isn't it will still be better than the other Mansion movie. The first one had a terrible cast and even worse story line.
Can't wait to see this official Haunted Mansion movie.

I actually have a plot outline for a Haunted Mansion script that I want to write. It's actually the second attraction based film idea I came up with behind Journey Into Imagination, which I think I'll start on first considering it hasn't been adapted yet into film. My Haunted Mansion would be much darker and involve two storylines intertwined. The first would be about a newspaper intern who is sent out to cover another fluff piece about a deserted mansion a kid claims he saw a ghost coming from. The other is a past storyline about Master Gracy and Madam Leota.

It's a good story and the twist I have lined up is pretty solid, but it still could use some plot points in the middle. I'm gonna keep working on it.

Murphy's character actually pointed that out, though, so I see nothing wrong with it.

/ Most of the rest of the film, however...

LMAO, that made my night.

I have a feeling M. Night Shamalamadingdong would have fun with the HM movie.

Step 1: Unsuspecting family enters what they believe to be a perfectly fine house.
Step 2: Children begin seeing spooky things going on, parents unphazed
Step 3: Parents catch on to the madness
Step 4: The house turns out to be a block of cheese and the family is really a pack of dogs
Step 5: ????
Step 6: Profit.

I don't think M. Night has fun with anything. His movies are always so dreary.

Besides, who would turn out to be dead at the end?

Thanks for reminding us. I think we will see a ToT movie especially if the HM movie has any success at all. They could even tie the two concepts together (lightbulb moment!!!!!! :)).

I'm certain Disney would like to replace the Twilight Zone backstory with a franchise of their own. Oh man, the possibilities here are profound!

There's a big difference between HM and ToT. Only Disney park fans have ever really heard of ToT. And then there's the whole Twilight Zone ownership issue. On the other hand, HM is a Disney classic known to everyone (whether they've ever actually experienced the ride or not.)

Not saying a ToT movie would never happen. But it might be more likely that they would attempt to reboot the Country Bears first. :lookaroun
