The construct of your argument is contradictory. You say that the same people in government are the same people on Wall Street in the sense that they are "ego driven, greedy, [and] bought". This is largely true, but can be attributed to a lack of regulation that would otherwise prevent that from being the case. Furthermore, as you say yourself, people are flawed and can be greedy. So is it in everyone's self-interest that "big government", however corrupt it be, should cease to exist and let these greedy people work without any regulation? If so, take a look at laissez-faire economics of the early 20th century. Rockefeller, Carnegie and all of the other monopolistic bigwigs displayed "rugged individualism", at the expense of the everyday Joe. Of course government isn't perfect, but at the very least it puts speed bumps in what would otherwise be an endless upwards flow of monetary capital to folks like Rockefeller, Jamie Dimon, or even Bob Iger. (This post isn't "socialist", this is precisely what is taught in Economics 101...which is the exact class that I had today!)
More on topic, corporations are making more money than ever before, and Disney is consistently churning out great financial performance. Perhaps now is the time to reinvest those profits, particularly at Walt Disney World where it is bleeding market share. To fix itself, the entire management structure needs to change, and particularly Parks and Resorts should give itself a good look in the mirror and decide what to do. It can take a short-term financial hit and right the wrongs, for the sake of its long-term value. Or it can look at the next batch of quarterly earnings and decide to continue the status quo and keep putting on band aids when major surgery is needed. I would be hard-pressed to find someone that disagrees that WDW's current business model (should one exist) is running itself into the ground.
When I say rugged individualism I'm pointing at the individual...such as yourself...as in you must do it on your own. I'm not speaking of economic theory. I believe no one is there to help you unless you have something to offer in return with the exception of your family. Im not speaking of philanthropic endeavors when I say that. There are many willing to give from their heart, I'm talking about hiring someone for a job. People aren't out there just to give out jobs for the sake of giving out jobs. Doesn't work that way. You must invest in yourself and be as talented as you can possible be...keep climbing that ladder of knowledge, very powerful tool. People hire you based on what you can give them, you will do the same when you have your own business.
My post isn't contradictory, it's a fact. Wall street and government aren't run by machines....they are run by people. Peolpe are flawed and can be manipulated. Those in government aren't saints and those on wall street aren't devils. They all have families, kids, moms with cancer, cousins who have passed away, daughters getting married. Realities of life. People are working to give their families the best they can. That is goal number one, everything else is secondary.
I won't get into wall street, sounds like you can list off many a problem. Big government isnt any better and can get just as bloated and corrupt. People in government are bought all the time, that's how they get elected. They run on other peoples money, that can lead to many a problem in and of itself. The presidents are bought, they spend big money to have you believe they will make your life better. Really? Obama spent 750 Million in 08 so he could get your vote. Said he would make your life better. Did he? Romney and Obama will do the same this year. Someone else will be there 4 years from now. All saying the same thing. They aren't making your life better....they are working their off making their life better. These are both rich and powerful men. They are both showing my definition of do it yourself rugged individualism and pushing themselves to become the greatest men they can be.
Goes for the house and senate...those are very powerful individuals who's average net worth I believe is 15 million, that is across party lines. They live in a completely different reality and their secondary job is to get re-elected...not to make your life better. Yet they aren't evil, they all have families and regular everyday family problems...which is their number one concern, their family. Second is re-election.
You as an individual must control your own destiny, be the very best at what and who you want to be. Know yourself and know your material and never stop learning.
Walt Disney was a man with that do it yourself spirit, George Lucas, Steve jobs, Steven Spielberg, Bill Gates, any mom and pop who opens a restaurant...and yes John D Rockefeller.
Don't forget Rockefeller donated something like 80 million dollars in 1900 to start the university of Chicago. George Lucas donated 200 million to his old school. I don't look at George lucas and want to regulate him, I want to encourage others to be lke him.
I apologize for jumping off topic. Views expressed are my opinion only. Everyone has their own path they must take.
