Lunch with an Imagineer rumors answered

Well I'm glad you understood the poorly crafted paragraph that I wrote. :) None of us would have anything to gain from BSing the guests. There might be occassions when someone puts some bad information out there though. Much like this forum, Imagineering frequently has rumors that fly around...

Lunch with an Imagineer rumors answered

You can talk about anything you want...within the bounds of good conversational taste. :) I would like to say that Disney is not just throwing any Imagineer out there to the public. Although it is semi-voluntary there is a relatively small pool of Imagineers who participate in this program...

Lunch with an Imagineer rumors answered

It's gone past the discussion stage to the planning stage, particularly for the HM refurb. I work with some of the Imagineers who are assigned to the projects and both were talked about in a meeting we had last week.

Lunch with an Imagineer rumors answered

I have to disagree, at least with the last two. They are real projects that from what I've seen and heard have already been given the go-ahead. A Space Mountain and Haunted Mansion refurb are both currently in the works.

Poss. date for new version of M:S???

It'd be nice if they made wild side for those who want even greater thrills than what the normal ride offers. An extended launch to orbit (longer sustained G's), a complete orbit, then a re-entry to a landing would be great. With the Google Earth terrain maps available now the visuals on...

    Important people visiting Disney....

I've seen Steven Tyler coming out of RnR on a couple of occassions. Rumor has it that he rides it every time he comes to Orlando.

    Why B mode on Everest?

There's been a lot of consternation in this forum concerning the Yeti, so I thought I'd throw in my two cents and a clarification. The Yeti doesn't necessarily run in B mode because it's broken. It also runs in that mode when it's not operating within very specific and stringent A mode...

Problems with Passholder Preview of EE

Just so you know, the "control room" is officially referred to as the "tower," even though it's at ground level. Tower is the terminology for all the "control rooms" at Disney. Not sure why. Need to ask some of the Imagineers who have been there forever.

    EE Update Feature

If you saw a guy with a goatee wearing an M:S team jacket, that was me. Rode it three times today. I doubt I'll ever see lines that short on E:E again. Good to see the Yeti was running without any apparent issues. Fun ride. My favorite part is the big drop outside of the mountain. If I had...

    3D Preshow Feature at E.E.?

I think he's speaking realistically instead of the simulation aspect. Smoke normally tends to rise. Actually it's not smoke but something more...natural, something that would normally sink in air. Also, like I said earlier in the thread, the Imagineers tend to avoid smoke generators.

    EE Update Feature

It's nothing but steam. The Imagineers have had some bad experiences with smoke generators (the maintenance guys hate them), like in the trains in AK for example, and tend to shy away from them now. In Hong Kong they decided to go without any smoke effect rather than use a smoke generator on the...

    EE Update Feature

Believe it or not, it actually is steam. It comes up through the smokestack and the sides of the loco once the train is loaded and just before it starts moving. Nobody is actually in that area to be affected by the steam (or at least nobody should be since they'd have to be standing at the edge...

Typhoon Lagoon Surf Lessons -- Help!!

It's actually a pretty good way to learn to surf. It's much easier than attempting to learn on your own by kooking around in the ocean like I did. I've surfed it a couple of times (been surfing for over 30 years) and the waves are relatively powerful, but not nearly as powerful as what an...

    Disney's Computers Are Down

The move toward Windows is fairly recent and became more common after the release of Windows 2000. It was far more reliable than the 16-bit/32-bit kludge that was Win95/98/ME and was finally an NT-based OS that had some decent hardware support. It wasn't adopted so much out of favoratism for...

    Disney's Computers Are Down

I have to disagree. Many of the attraction Show Control systems do indeed use Windows as their OS. Most are running Windows 2000 at the moment. There are even some Ride Control systems using a DOS variant, such as on Mission: Space. It's simply a matter of necessity because much of the...

    Okay, Iger's Impressing Me

True. However, the original purpose of my post was to point out that CEOs generally aren't the idea guys. As far as something as relatively low-level as creating this window on main street, I doubt Iger was even involved in the decision making process. Surely he was notified of it and...

    Okay, Iger's Impressing Me

iirc, at the Townhall meeting that I attended some months back, and at which both Iger and Eisner were at in person, Eisner announced he was stepping back to allow Iger in on the decision-making process. I'm an Imagineer, so that's how I know.
