World of Color?

World of Color isn't replacing Fantasmic. If you want to see Fantasmic, head on over to DL across the esplanade. WoC was designed to be different from F! - it adds variety to DLR's nighttime entertainment line up.

The difference between World of Color and Bellagio fountains = WoC is a 25min show with a variety of special effects that will tell stories. Very different shows. If you think show will be Bellagio set to Disney music, then you really don't know much about the show. Maybe you should go back and watch the D23 Expo presentation videos or wait until the show premieres.

^^ I'm pretty sure it won't replace "F!", but I bet it'll be just as good. There seem to be a LOT of in-stadium effects, too, so that would be fun.

Well, when I said it won't replace Fantasmic I meant that both shows will still be playing at the resort :) F! isn't closing to make way for WoC. And yeah, there are many effects hidden within the viewing area. And many other effects that haven't shown up on video yet. Judging the show right now is a bit premature - we haven't really seen it the way it was intended to be seen.

People who have seen it from inside the park after-hours are giving it very positive reviews. insider67 posted the following.

Well, its already a jaw dropper in my book.....even more so now that I have seen it from the angle that it is meant to be seen. The way that the fountains and the projections interact/mesh/comingle with each other to tell the story is a astonishing piece of artistry. I have no idea what else they have planned but the show as it is right now is truly amazing. IMHO they have nailed it and can premier the show right now if they wanted to but I guess they are waiting for perfection before they officially unveil this show.

I found these pictures today.. they were posted on Flickr by Ring Of Fire Hot Sauce 1. Make sure to check out the rest of his album, he has some really great pictures of the parks.

I had lunch with someone today that works in the light/sound industry and has done many projects for the Disneyland Resort. He said that most of his colleagues are fairly pessimistic about the World of Color. He said that a lot of corners have been cut and Disney, who is usually very good to work with, has not been listening to suggestions and has just been pushing to get this done by June 11th no matter what. I didn't completely understand all he said but something about platforms not working and that they pretty much know that all of the effects would not be working all together at once and they didn't really care.

No idea what to think of this.

First I hear of this. To me it sounds like a "I know someone who has a friend who talked to someone in the know" kind of rumor  As far as I know everything is on schedule with no major delays as of yet. A while back they were having some issues getting the platform stable but that has been addressed, it's been fixed already.

That info is not good if true! :( and also with talk of the Alice section being severely cut.... :veryconfu Not good. I bet the problem is DL is so afraid of another messed up Summer Nightastic like last year with Murphy being delayed.

Here's a Whopper of a Question...

Has anyone ever wondered how long it will be until Disney puts World of Color in WDW? I personally think it would be a good addition to DHS and run it on night Fantasmic is not running!

BUT I BET YOU THEY ADD WORLD OF COLOR TO WDW SOMEWHERE IN THE FUTURE...MARK MY WORDS:ROFLOL:

I think that when DCA/DISNEY sees the large crowds is draws they may eventually add it to WDW's nighttime, end of the night shows!!!!

I dunno. I'll wait until a credible source can confirm this. As I said, they were having issues keeping the platform from flexing.. but they already fixed that.

The DHS amphitheater isn't exactly set up for a show like World of Color. They'd have to do some major modifications to the stage.. the WoC show platform is pretty big.

In other news.. DLR Cast Members will be able to attend a Cast Showcase on World of Color (May 6 through 8). Basically an orientation of WoC.. CMs will learn all about the show, the technology behind it, Guest Control training, and they'll get a product preview of WoC "merchandise and food and beverage offerings."

This info was posted by redjag on MiceChat, it was passed along by a CM working in Paradise Park

- They say there will be showpasses (but didn't call it by that specific name) for the main viewing area for the first show only. Second show will be first come, first serve.
- I heard one say the area holds 4000 people, and another say 4000-5000.
- The parade route will be first come, first serve, but if guests don't get back in time with their showpass (it will have an enforced return time) poeple from the back will be let into that spot.
- The viewing area will be grouped into colored sections and your pass will say what color your in.
- 3 CMs per section to help with anything you'll need.
- Venders will be roaming the area before the show.

So it looks like ShowPass is indeed happening.. and Paradise Park will be divided into color-coded sections. It's also being reported that food vendors will be strolling through the area before the show, selling snacks/drinks to guests.

If you are suggesting they run World of Color in the Fantasmic! amphitheater in DHS, I'm afraid you don't understand the huge scale of World of Color and the Paradise Bay lagoon it sits in. Not to mention the massive platform that hold the 1,200 fountains and all the other effects equipment.

It's HUGE!
IMG_0975AAA.JPG

The entire Fantasmic! stage/mountain in DHS is 275 feet wide from tip to tip, while the biggest mist screen in World of Color is 380 feet wide. If they tried to put a World of Color into the DHS amphitheater, it would need to be a dramatically scaled down and smaller version of the DCA show.

No idea what to think of this.

It's hard to reconcile this quote with what we have seen in clips and heard other places. When I watch the videos I think "Wow". Certainly not in terms of cutting corners. The only thing that makes me nervous is hearing about Bob Iger asking for changes.

It seems to me that with as much riding on this show as there is, that they would be plussing it out, not cutting it back.

So I am VERY optimistic.

Exactly. This third-hand account is coming from theater arts technical people, a notoriously insular and pompous yet nerdy bunch. These guys are probably talking about some Imagineering project manager going with the cheaper gold-plated solenoids from Japan instead of the double-coated platinum solenoids custom made in Germany that have a 3.5% higher conductivity rating.

For the tourists watching the show this summer it's not going to make a lick of difference, but for some tech guys trying to out-nerd each other it's a way to prove how cool you are that you know about the German double-platinum parts.

Luminaria? That was kind of a cheap show. World of Color? The most expensive entertainment spectacular Disney has ever done in this country.

So what exactly is ShowPass? Fastpass for a show to eliminate the possibility of having to camp out for hours to get a decent spot? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I have never heard the term used in connection with anything in WDW.

You just summed it up perfectly.

They aren't going to let people camp out all day. They'll clear the viewing area in early evening, and then let the people holding a Showpass in first and backfill with Standby.

That's all according to Al Lutz however, as he was the one who broke this Showpass rumor. Disney has not yet confirmed it or admitted to anything resembling a Showpass concept. See old Al Lutz columns on Miceage for the details.

Interesting concept. I hope Disney does actually do what he is rumoring. Any way you look at I still think it is going to be total chaos with all those people standing around (unless West coasters are WAY nicer than I anticipate) but something like Showpass seems like it will help.

There's a much different vibe at Disneyland than there is at a WDW park. Much different. And I'll just leave it at that.

Yeah they're all PO'd APers!

Hmm... Not so sure about that. The average SoCal'er takes life far more calmly than the average Bostonian. I lived in the Northeast for years, and I can't tell you how I pined for the laid back California lifestyle while living in New England.

Then I go to WDW and encounter a stereotypical person from a certain section of the country, bellowing in a regional accent that is like nails on a chalkboard, and generally stressing out about everything from Fastpass to fireworks to refillable mugs. Loudly. Very, very LOUDLY.

And I remember how much I enjoy Disneyland and Orange County, California. :D

So what you are saying, essentially, is a desire, nay "wish", for women, (I.E. Referred to as "They") could be, in a sense, "California Girls"?
