World of Color?

Right, they even have the Alice paper sculptures on display at the Blue Sky Cellar.. Steven said he was excited about bringing Alice to the show and he really emphasized that segment of the show. With all the work that went into it, it would be silly to give it the cut at the last minute.
Exactly!

Silly question -- is the height of the water going to stay the same as it is now or will they fill it in once WoC is ready for the public so that all the metal and hardware for WoC will be submerged?

As cool as the show is going to be, the once picturesque setting really looks pretty terrible with all of the framework for the mechanics of the show exposed!

The water level will remain the same, instead they're lowering/raising the platform at night. There are three levels.

1.) Submerged and hidden from view
2.) Show level (only the nossels are showing)
3.) Maintenance level (it is currently at this)

Whew! That is great to hear. Was hoping this was the case...

Im also happy to hear this, as I was there yesterday, and the seating/ viewing area is open, and It looks really bad in the lagoon with all the show works visible!

Was there yesterday too -- very excited to see the new park area! Was surprised to see how close-up to the WoC show guests will be if they're in the front. Almost touching it!! Would imagine there's the potential to get a little wet with front row seats, eh?

So nice to finally have some walls come down. Wish we could just fast forward to 2012 and see it all done already!!!

the boardwalk around the edge of Paradise Park is indeed very close to the show platform! only a couple feet away. should be fun to experience the show from that location :)

Here's another fun video (by HV10N90) which features the Electrical Parade and some WoC testing.

and some pretty cool nighttime shots of the WoC platform at show level, and a look around Paradise Park (all pictures by orbitalpunk)

in this picture you can see the control booth for WoC with the window open (under the bridge that leads to the entrance of Paradise Pier) you can see also see part of the new boardwalk here, which btw hasn't opened to guests yet

It's finally official - World of Color has an opening date: June 11th!

Lights, water, fire, music and animation will come together like never before on June 11 when “World of Color” makes its dazzling debut at Disney’s California Adventure park. You will get to experience some of your favorite Disney stories – from the charming to the adventurous – in a magical, new way.

As you saw in the video, the show is brilliantly choreographed as it combines nearly 1,200 powerful fountains, popular Disney music, larger-than-life projections, lasers, fire, fog, surround sound and stunning images. On top of that, the magnificent, moving fountains are capable of reaching enormous heights — from 30 to 200 feet -– while maintaining their dazzling colors.

As I’m sure you know from reading the Disney Parks Blog, “World of Color” is a major milestone in the multi-year expansion of Disney’s California Adventure park.

“World of Color” debuts this year as part of Summer Nightastic! –- a lineup of exciting, after-dark entertainment at the Disneyland Resort. Summer Nightastic! will run from June 11 through August 29, and you’ll be able to catch “World of Color” year-round at Paradise Bay.

Looks like we might also have AP previews

http://ocresort.freedomblogging.com/2010/04/20/disney-announces-date-for-big-water-show-debut/41633/
Disney park annual passholders and employees will get a chance to see dress rehearsals before the official opening, but no dates have been announced, said John McClintock, a Disneyland Resort spokesman.

Nice to finally have an opening date!

I HIGHLY doubt they'd cut Alice, unless it looked REALLY trashy. Reason #1: Insane publicity. Reason #2: TWO versions of the story, owned by Disney, are being released on DVD.

and the official press release:

ANAHEIM, Calif. (April 20, 2010) – Lights, water, music, fire and animation will come together like never before on June 11 when “World of Color” makes its dazzling debut at Disney’s California Adventure theme park. The show is choreographed with revolutionary technology that creates a playful, nighttime spectacular and a new way for guests to experience Disney stories – from the charming to the adventurous.

Presented on Paradise Bay in Disney’s California Adventure park, “World of Color” is a major milestone in the multi-year expansion of the park. The show combines nearly 1,200 powerful fountains, popular Disney music and an all-new kaleidoscope of audio and visual effects, including both classic and new animation projected on massive screens of water. “World of Color” floods the senses and takes the audience on an imaginative, emotional journey into the colorful worlds of Disney classics, such as “The Lion King” and “The Little Mermaid,” along with Disney•Pixar films including “Toy Story” and “WALL-E.”

“What’s great about ‘World of Color’ is there’s something for everybody,” said Steve Davison of Walt Disney Imagineering Creative Entertainment.

“World of Color”will take water-infused entertainment to a new level of artistry. Disney’s newest production features an unprecedented infrastructure of water effects, larger-than-life projections, lasers, fire, fog, surround sound and moving fountains that can shoot spouts from 30 feet to 200 feet high. Technical wizardry integrates all the media with one of the biggest show control systems ever built; more than 18,000 active points of control are precisely managed by a single system.

“World of Color” debuts this year as part of “Summer Nightastic!” – a lineup of exciting, after-dark entertainment that will illuminate the night at Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure theme parks. “Summer Nightastic!” will run from June 11 through Aug.29, while “World of Color” will continue entertaining guests year-round at Paradise Bay.

At Disneyland park, “Fantasmic!” ignites the night with thrills, life-like creatures including a fire-breathing dragon, and spine-tingling adventures for Sorcerer Mickey. In the skies above Sleeping Beauty Castle, “Magical” sparks to life with a dazzling firework spectacular in which colorful, choreographed pyrotechnics burst and soar to a soundtrack of Disney songs. “Magical” features both Tinker Bell and Dumbo in flight over the castle.

The Disneyland Resort features two theme parks – Disneyland (the original Disney theme park) and Disney’s California Adventure park – plus the Downtown Disney District comprised of unique dining, entertainment and shopping experiences. The resort’s three hotels are the luxurious, newly expanded 948-room Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, the magical 970-room Disneyland Hotel and the 481-room Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel with its “day-at-the-beach” fun. ^Hm. Well, everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but this is going to be more like a fireworks show than Fantasmic, in the sense that it's more about watching pretty fountains bounce around to a vague emotional story rather than a clear story with live actors. I'd say watch the clip of the video just above your post and, if you aren't slightly intrigued, then you probably won't like it.

I watched the vid, and it has potential to be entertaining, but I guess I'll just have to see it in person first.

The story and the actors are why I love F! so much. I'm not sure how fond I am of all the dancing water!

^In person it'll be WAYY better, with special surprise effects all around you and surround-sound music. Although I can't stand to watch a whole Bellagio show straight through, I'm pretty sure that this will keep my interest. It has all the wonderful magical moments, I think it'll be good. Plus, the fountains don't only make straight-up beams... they curve, they pop, the sway, and they mist. Put that with giant mist screens, a variety of colors, strobe lighting, fire effects, (possibly some low-level fireworks!) and a medley of Disney songs and I think we've got a winner. And the scenes are really MADE with water rather tan just being projected onto it. I think it'll be fascinating to see what happens.

And the story of WoC is really just of all kinds of color, from Earth to Sea to Sky (order not final!). And there's a supposed new character, Little Squirt, who represents Walt's childlike imagination, represented as an orange fountain. We'll have to see if that make the cut into the show, though.

The way you put it makes it seem far better! I had in my mind that it would be just a Bellagio show set to Disney music! :ROFLOL:

If the way you describe is accurate, then maybe I will enjoy it after all!

Yeah, F! is my all time favorite! I don't think I would ever find my self choosing something over F!

But hey, I'm open to change, just not change that will rid of Fantasmic!!
