I don't get why the pop culture jokes aren't funny?

I loved the LOST and Britney Spears jokes. You'd have to be living under a rock to not get those jokes.

Yea. I don't mean to sound full of myself, but I'm fairly good at the whole comedic thing, and no one has ever laughed at the Albert Falls joke.

Guess I've never been on your boat. Most of the ones I've been on have gotten reactions -- combinations of laughs, rim-shots, and groans.

Because they don't belong on the ride. Nor do they fit in with the timeline.

As for time-line, neither does the often used line that the Temple could contain anything, but since this is Disney, it's probably gift shop.

For what it's worth, both lines got laughs.

As for me, I like when different skippers mix it up a bit. So if some, like SirGoofy, don't use pop culture references, and others do, all the better for me, cuz I'll get to hear different jokes. Some will work, some won't.

Exactly unkadug. WDW1974, me not wanting to hear your negative views on every aspect of Disney apparently translates to:

A) me not being a CP, retiree, or ICP at Jungle

or

B) me actually agreeing with your statements

I'm trying to see the logic in your post. Usually people will have good responses to back up their views if they've been called out. You have me lost. :veryconfu

I couldn't care less whether you or anyone wants to read my views or not. No one is forcing you do. You engaged and I will respond.

Go back and read what I posted and not what you want to read in. I said there were NO ABSOLUTES. I didn't rip all CMs at WDW ... or all who aren't in the three groups above.

I also stand behind what I posted. And while most WDW CMs -- read that again before attacking MOST WDW CMs -- are quite good ... they don't measure up to those in Anaheim, Paris or Hong Kong.

Just my opinion based on spending way too much time in Disney Resorts worldwide.

You don't like it? Deal with it.

I liked the Lost line, but not the Britney Spears one. As for Albert Falls, for those of us old enough to actually have heard of Albert Schweitzer, it's a classic line. And I'm surprised to hear that most skips don't use it -- I'm pretty sure I've heard it about 90% of my cruises.

I haven't heard either before, but I like them.

I have no issue with pop culture references on JC. Skippers have ad-libbed them for decades and in that environment, they work.

I would put them on par with the Genie riffing on anything topical during DCA's Aladdin show. If it is done right, all it does is add to the experience.

Hilarious. You make blanket statements about CMs, stereotyping them by employment status or age and when someone says they don't understand you're logic, you say, if you don't like it, deal with it. Priceless.

I also can't wait for your next post where you will once again tell us that fill-in the blank is so much better at fill-in the blank than it is at WDW in Florida.

??? I think you're missing the point- or avoiding it. Once you feel like actually making sense in your posts, then maybe we'll get somewhere.

One of my favorite jokes is right before you enter the temple/cave and you see the broken columns and the skipper says "Disney's first attempt at the Monorail."

I would suggest the polar opposite.

The only CMs (front-line) that I see at WDW truly enjoying themselves are either CPers, retirees or internationals.

People that depend on WDW to pay the mortgage don't really seem so interested in the magic.

IN MY OPINION, 74 was stating his opinion. Maybe that's who he runs into. Maybe you folks should give your schedules so he can visit you and judge your work.

I did a CP in the spring of 2001. Most of my work location were part time retirees, high school kids, and CPs. We had a blast working. Most of the full timers were bitter and unsociable to other workers and guests. They didn't try to make any "magic" just do what they had.

I started full time in 2004. The younger full timers (under 30) including myself had a blast, trying to make extra magic even in difficult situations. The ICPs in my location were from Hong Kong as they were getting ready to open HKDL. They had a blast even with a difficult language barrier and being away from home. The CPs were very good as well. Many of the older full time CMs were lazy and there for the money. They didn't do anything extra and tried to do as little as possible at all times.

In my case, I'd say that 74's description was pretty accurate.

Are you stating there are no absolutes absolutely or are there exceptions to your "there are no absolutes" contention?

And whatever your answer is you will have to deal with it.

Can we keep talking about the Jungle Cruise and not about what group of cast members are better than the other?

I have a question for Sir Goofy:

Last fall we had a JC skipper that was totally out of character! I think he was just acting but his schtick was that of a pi$$ed off skipper. He was just smart alecky the whole time and yelled at people and shot the gun like 15 times at a hippo. It was really weird and at the end he just jumped off the boat and was like "Whatever..." and walked away. It seemed to us to be some sort of bored college program employee. Is this something some of the JC skippers do to amuse themselves?
