WDI currently working on Jungle Cruise

Doesn't it all boil down to a person's skipper/sense of humor? How does this effect the figures being touched up?

The new script is going to cut down on improve from what I've been told, which is a double edged sword. I'm worried load/unload will become dull, where now they get the people into the attraction/leave them with a laugh.

Apparently skippers have already been given the script, and it's gotten positive reviews, minus one change. Once I know I can talk about it I'll let you guys know.

AKA, have I missed any news?

I think this deserves it's own thread.

Why?

Nothing has happened. But it is going to, sooner rather than later.

I'm not sure what else there is to discuss.

You can be working on projects and still get axed at WDI these days ... that's what happened to Bruce Gordon and now to Tim Delaney.

And most of what Tony is working on is largely blue sky. The big stuff is coming to DCA.

Tony gets scraps like the castle walk-thru, new Mr. Lincoln and Disney Gallery ... and he's sure to take credit for Star Tours 2.0 too!

I'd love to see one of his big projects take off soon, but it seems highly unlikely.

I know this is going to sound like treason on here, but I don't like WDW's Jungle Cruise is the best-suited attraction for the large tourist crowd that WDW has. I love it, but I'd agree with those who say it's the combination of the skipper + the audience that makes or breaks the attraction.

Whenever we ride, I notice a couple of things:

1) Disgusted looks from some audience members regarding the self-deprecating humor; and,

2) People generally looking confused and not laughing.

Even as a guest that enjoys and appreciates the attraction, it's hard to get "into" it as a guest when no one else follows suit. I don't know if the attraction needs to blatantly make it obvious in the queue that it's a tongue-in-cheek or self-deprecating attraction (with as dumb as Americans are nowadays, would this be effective, anyway?), or if we just need to be content in knowing that not all guests are going to "get it." Given that DLR has a lot more local guests, I think it's a given that more guests "get it" there; if only based upon repeat experiences with the attraction.

In any case, we can sit here all day and have an anecdotal back-and-forth about which coast's skippers are better, but as with all anecdotal evidence, your mileage may vary.

I think JC is just a microcosm of folks being overwhelmed with the enormity of WDW and the cost of their vacations. They have too much to do (maybe not at MK, but doncha know WDW is all about four parks!) ... I know I'll get flamed for this (but we also know I couldn't care less) but in my very anecdotal but very experienced opinion, people don't seem to enjoy WDW like they once did. I see lots of folks who look absolutely miserable there ... not nearly the same as Anaheim, Paris or Hong Kong.

People spend a tremendous amount to visit WDW and then try and do it all. It can't be done, even by us regulars. I think that prevents many folks from sitting back and taking the magic in. It's not so much they don't 'get' JC (although surely some don't) ... it's that they're thinking about how they'll see Fantasmic, use their FP for Peter Pan, get to Ohana for dinner, check out DisneyQuest and schedule two character breakfasts all while the skipper is trying to make sure they get the point in the end about the backside of water while he's pointing out his favorite plants!

In my opinion, the skippers at WDW are superior than their DL counterparts. I get the feeling a good amount of CMs at Disneyland are people looking for employment, whereas the cast members I see in WDW are there because this is where they want to be, and the difference definitely shows.

I would suggest the polar opposite.

The only CMs (front-line) that I see at WDW truly enjoying themselves are either CPers, retirees or internationals.

People that depend on WDW to pay the mortgage don't really seem so interested in the magic.

Guilty in 2008. Worried and planned too much, had fun, but not as much.

2009? Did what I wanted at whim. MUCH better time.:D

A skipper friend of mine posted on his twitter about what I'm presuming is the change you're talking about. If we're talking about the same thing (and I presume we are), I hope everyone at the JC fights it tooth and nail.

And if that change does go through, I hope there's a massive outcry about it. If not... sad times. :(

Ok...enough with the secrets. Somebody PM me the changes and I'll post it. I fear not the wrath of management.

WDW1974, you gotta watch what you say. I'm a WDW Jungle Skipper that is neither a CP, retiree, or ICP, and I always love giving cruises of the Jungle. You can't just state, or even assume, that full time, part time, or seasonal Skippers aren't "interested in the magic". I've been reading your posts for quite some time now. And it seems that nearly every post is negative in some aspect. I think a lot of us would appreciate you not giving your opinion- no matter how much you care aboout the quality of WDW parks.

You know what, my statement wasn't an absolute. I'm quite sure there are some CMs out there who aren't 21 and in college, 75 and moved to the Sunbelt to get away from the Pittsburgh winters or from Italy here on the IP yet they still do great jobs and love what they do.

But the tone of your post, and the desire for me to not give my opinions tends to make me think you're not one of them.

Or maybe it's just a simple case of you subconsciously acknowledging that my statement is largely accurate.

I dunno. Bottom line is you get what you pay for. And both Anaheim and Paris have better pay and better working conditions largely ... and with any company, doesn't that tend to lead to having a better workforce?

I was in Miami today (went to see the Disney Christmas Carol Train Tour -- and waited longer to get in than I did for any E-Ticket at DLP/DSP/DL/DCA last month BY FAR!) and stopped into the new prototype Burger King that is in the shadow of the company's worldwide HQ building and no one at the order counter could even speak English ... didn't even understand numbers. But I digressed ... you are right, you need perfect command of English to be a USA JC skipper. No ands, ifs or IPers come cheap!

What do you expect in Miami? NO ONE speaks english in Miami, with the exception of my grandmother and great-aunt. They are the only two in the whole metro Dade area.

As long as the new script isn't like the TTA's....

:drevil:

Anyways... any idea why the new script will come before the refurb? And do you have any details on what the script will be like?

I sure hope not!

From what I understand, Disneyland just got a new script that is really funny. I would assume we are getting basically the same script.

I hoppe not this was the on thing I didn't like about JC in DL.

Nope.

You can look at pics, though.

Not the same Evan.

So let me be sure I got this right. Anyone that disagrees with your viewpoint is a slacker and should not be working at Disney.
