Watchmen Watch Thread

So I haven't seen the movie, nor have I really been keeping up with the thread, but I must say: Travis, if you've inspired anyone to go out and buy the book with your passion, it's me. I bought it tonight at Barnes and Noble and plan on reading on the beaches of Central Florida during my spring break. I'm actually really excited.

Then I'm going to watch the movie. After I'm done with the book, of course.

Oh I will. Don't worry. :D

You should read them as well!

I saw it yesterday.

I loved the book...I loved the movie. I think what BJ said is right...the "Bernie and Bernie" dialogue was missing and I think that's why I didn't enjoy the movie as much.

Book = Epic
Movie = Incredible.

I liked the ending in the movie better than the book. (It just worked).

Also, I am very impressed at how it came out visually...and audio-ly. The soundtrack is amazing...and the way it was shot was breathtaking.

(Oh, and just so you know...they did their homework). I'm in the architectural/glass business and a red-flag was thrown up when the Comedian was thrown out of the window. They said it was plate glass (and it broke like plate glass). I picked up a flaw right away because it would've been laminated glass if it went floor to ceiling. Then they zoom out and you see a 2 strip piece of glass (which would have to be laminated) below the glass he broke through. Plate could be used in that application :lol: ) Now, it would also have to be laminated if it exceeded a certain size (because it looked like thin glass) but without actual dimensions, we will never know. (End Dork Rant).

:rolleyes::lol::lol: I think you ruined the movie for me.:p

Absolutely. Somebody deserves an Oscar for sound design. It was amazing.

Also, if given the choice...see it in IMAX. The giant screen, coupled with a flawless digital picture and truly bone shaking audio system....:eek:

:dazzle: Seeing at Muvico.:shrug: They have pretty good sound systems, right?

*tries to assure self*:lol:

Which one? The one Paradiso by I-75? It's ok, I guess.:shrug:
But, the Aventura AMC has it in IMAX. The drive might be worth it.

Yeah.:dazzle:

If I see it a second time around, I'll see it there. My friends already have their hearts on going to T.G.I.Fridays for dinner there based on their angry responces for me just texting this idea to them:rolleyes::lol:

So excited you get to see it today! Man, It's just unbelievable watching it. It's just so hard to believe you're seeing this stuff on the screen...I had goosebumps and/or teary eyes in several key moments.
:D

If anything, I hope this movie makes the teeners today have a fear of a possible Thermonuclear War...I think they've forgotten the fear.
:lol:

Oh, and about the newstand: ALOT of that is frames for Black Freighter, so I'm pretty sure we'll see that in the Extended ABSOLUTE cut: Which I'm sure will be even more fantastic, which my mind can't comprehend at this point...

Eh...to me, the newstand/Black Freighter was the weakest point of the book, so I surely didn't miss it. Bored me. I kinda just skimmed that part. :shrug:

I agree...It was symbolic and all, but I wanted to get back to the REAL story.

I wasn't really talking about the Black Freighter (I too thought it kinda took away from the story...because it was like trying to follow two stories at once and one was WAY more compelling than the other.). I was more talking about the banter between Bernie and Bernie.

Do they appear in the film at all?

And now I'm seeing it at 7, not 5.:rolleyes::lol: Two more hoursss...

The 2 Bernies embrace as the [big thing happens] near the end, making the same shape they do at the end of Book 11. (That sentence will make no sense to anyone who hasn't read or watched.) :lol:

I liked the Black Frieghter personally, especially all the allegories to the main story. I guess I agree with Alan Moore that the story in WATCHMEN isn't really the most interesting part of the book, as much as the way in which it's told. For me, BF was part of that.

I just got back from Viewing #2 and was reminded of another big change: Hollis shows up in one scene at the front, and *poof* he's gone. I wonder if they intended to use him more initially, especially for the [thing that happens to him in the book]. I guess that's not a really essential part of the story, but it's a pretty big omission.

So I started reading the book today. I've never read a graphic novel before, and I have to say that it's a COMPLETELY different experience than what I was expecting. Really fun, and so much different from a traditional novel.

It's very good, BTW. But you all knew that already :lol:

I just saw it.:sohappy::cry:

That was amazing.

I honestly felt like the book came alive in front of me. The acting was perfect,the sets, the effects, THE MUSIC! Wow...This film WAS Watchmen.

Yeah, it was gory as hell :dazzle: I cringed. Many times. (My arm is killing me:lookaroun) Yeah, a ton of the nuances were gone. Yeah, the ending was different. That doesn't matter. The spirit of Watchmen was in that movie, and that's what made it amazing.
