Be sure to look up early screenings on Thursday at select theaters, there may be one near you!

There's none near me though, so please refrain from talking to me about it Thursday Evening and Friday Afternoon!

I got an early screening last night. Want me to tell you how it ends?

Ok, after reading in this thread I purchased The Watchman for my 17 year old son. Here's hoping he enjoys it! Thanks for all your excitement, that is really what made me purchase it for him!

Early reviews aren't promising (don't jump me...I'm just the messenger). :lookaroun

http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/watchmen

Thing is, the reviews I read actually seem to get what's being reached for and still conclude it comes out a big mess on the screen (as opposed to just saying "a naked blue guy who can do anything? Give me a break!")

My surety that I want to see this movie is being shaken. After re-reading the novel last week, I was already a little shaky, knowing there was simply no chance for Hollywood to match it. Do I really want to pay just to see how this plays on screen when I have no doubt it won't live up to the book, which I adore? Like I said...I'm shaky. These reviews aren't firming up my resolve any.

(By the way, the NY'er review gives...things...away, regarding the ending. Fair warning.)

Look, it's not often ANYTHING gets the screen treatment it deserves. What? Would you have rather seen Keanu Reeves play Rorschach and it be only an hour long and look nothing like the book? They've made a faithful adaptation, while respecting that it can't be 100% the book.

I think it's just plain wrong to penalize them for caring about the Final Product and it's fans. So what you won't like it better than the book. I won't like it better than the book. Not even Zack Snyder's COFFEE GUY wanted people to like it better than the book. I think there's no harm in paying the price of a ticket to go see a well-made, albeit altered, Movie version of a great book. I want to see this story, these characters, and these epic moments told in Film. I mean, had it not been for this Movie alone, do you think Watchmen would be so high up in the Amazon best sellers? It's done a great service alone in providing a gateway of hype to get people to read it. There are countless adaptions coming out of things I love that treat the source material like dirt, if not giving it a bad name. I mean, as a Movie, does Watchmen look that unappealing? REALLY?

I'm going to go see it, and ENJOY IT.

Heaven Forbid that be what seeing movies is about anymore.

I specifically asked not to be jumped. :lookaroun

I'm definitely not the "OMG Spider-Man would never take off his mask!!!" type. I usually try to just enjoy comic movies on their own terms. Something about this one has me thinking differently, though. Maybe knowing that Alan Moore himself has said it's "inherently unfilmable" combined with my recent re-reading has me wondering if this should be made into a movie in the first place.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll still see it, but my expectations aren't going to be too high. Maybe I'll be wrong.

On a positive note: You're right about the movie getting people to read the book, so that's a good outcome, if nothing else.

My "girly-girl" cousin asked if I had it because she didn't "get" the trailer and what everybody was so "gung-ho" about. She loved it!

I'll be honest, prior to hearing about the movie, I had never HEARD of it...let alone read it. I bought it...I read it...I reread it...and I enjoyed and re-enjoyed it.

On the flipside, my cousin, who LOVES comic books...never read it...or heard of it either. He saw the original trailer and just thought it looked "unappealing" to him. (This is someone who couldn't wait for Elektra, Punisher, etc. to come out.) AKA, he sees EVERY comic movie. I asked him if he wanted to see it with me this weekend...he said, "Nah, just doesn't look like something I'd enjoy." Whuh? Oh, you mean a GOOD story.

Sorry, I startle easily.

Alan Moore is a good writer...but he IS a little crazy, so I disagree with the idea it shouldn't be a Movie. But I liked V for Vendetta's Movie, so...

I'm just so glad the film ended with a Cast and Crew who have an ACTUAL understanding and appreciating of the Source Material.

Some new websites time!

Firstup, we have a pretty neat "Interactive Trailer" guessing-gameish site that offers some nice downloads when finished. A fun diversion!

http://6minutestomidnight.com/

Next we have the secondary site for new Character-oriented Trailers that will premiering on networks over the next few days, the Dr. Manhattan one is up now. (Click on the picture of him under Character Clips)

Didn't you have the same initial reaction as your second cousin to the trailer, until you decided to read the book? I can see where at first glance, the images in the trailer might not seem to add up to much. It's one of those things you just have to dive in and experience.

I was just looking for the release date for the Black Freighter DVD and was reminded of how slow on the uptake I am. It was only after seeing the cover of the DVD that I realized Hollis Mason's book title "Under the Hood" is a double reference, to the hood he wore as Nite Owl and to his post-adventuring job as a mechanic. I feel so dumb that I never put that together before.

Anyway, I've stepped back from the brink a little since yesterday. Even if the movie turns out to be less than stellar, it's still WATCHMEN, which gives it a heck of a leg up starting out. :D

I got 5 out of 6 and then smacked my head when I found out what the last one was that I had trouble with. Especially since I knew which character I was missing so it should have been obvious to me.
I got 4 on my own....couldn't untangle the ones for Oz or Doc. Once I went looking for the answers, I saw that lots of people got stuck on the Doc clue. It really looks like something else.

Mine was actually Rorschach, go figure. As soon as I found out what it was, I smacked my forehead. It was the two rounded sections at the bottom that threw me off and made me think something else.
