The General Manager for the Company I work for is Completely against all Things Disney. He has a son and daughter and refuses to let them watch anything Disney Related. He says they are evil and promote evil things like witch craft. No I admit Miley Cyrus is evil (just kidding Cyrus fans). Yet he will let hes 10 year old son watch r rated movies.. makes no sense to me:brick:

R- Rated movies at 10?!? Something is wrong with this world...

I'm NOT sticking up for your professor but was he maybe trying to get your goat and find a student willing to debate and show their own beliefs?

With that said, comparing the likes of Hitler with the likes of Disney is plain old crazy. Even if all of the speculations about Disney is true, being a racist and anti-semite himself, the fact is that he has never killed anyone or had anyone purposely tortured and mutilated. Your professor is a total you know what.

Also, as an educator myself, I can say that his response to your opinion, as well as his, was completely inappropriate.

As a Jewish woman I am also apalled that he could even consider putting these two men in the same category.

My first year of teaching I was told by a parent that I should never read/talk about Harry Potter due to the witchcraft and never read, discuss or show Disney movies because Disney has Gay weekends. When I did show a Disney movie, I sent the child to the library. I was not letting my class suffer for this Mothers ignorance. She later changed her tune and allowed him to watch or hear anything I showed/read. I think he was more embarrassed.

High school teachers too.

But how is this political?

Hey, hey, hey...watch the comments on high school teachers. Not all of us are like that. :p

When I was in college, my English professor berated any female that wanted to get married, be a mom, etc... This was on the same day she said Disney movies brainwashed people, especially little girls, and it was a crime to expose children to them. We had to do an essay on the Janet Jackson clothing malfunction in this class, too. *Sigh* This class really taught me how to be a better high school English teacher.

When I was in college (I was a returning student...and the oldest in this particular class), I had an economics professor, a Russian (real Russian, from Russia, not an American of Russian Decent), who was an self-admitted Communist (she told us that...I didn't infer it, she said it). I, having waited until my senior year to take a sophomore level required class, having worked in business for 15 years before taking this class, and having a broad knowledge of Keynesian economic theory, used to argue economic theory with her. We would verbally spar at least once a week, even if only for a minute. The young students in the class were constantly telling me not to argue, just listen and spit back at her what she wanted to hear...not to stir up the class, because I would fail. I didn't listen...because they didn't see my test and quiz scores. I passed the class with a 96 average, and she told me at the end that she enjoyed having a student in the class that understood the differing points of economic theory.

Now, if your professor had as open of a mind as mine did, and used your points as a learning tool, the entire class could have learned a lesson. What your professor did is the mark of a poor professor, the type that just likes to listen to himself pontificate and if you don't agree, you are stupid. Not a good professor. I'd try to make an appointment with the department chair, with the dean, with the president of the college whatever it takes to get this exposed. Going to the press wouldn't hurt, either.

My $0.02...

A lot of Professors do things like this in order to FORCE their students to think for themselves.
A lot of professors should not be teaching.:dazzle::lol:

I have a professor who on the first day of class said that he was a Marxist. Today he gave out a list that he compiled of the 50 worst people in the 20th century and Hitler was # 1. The problem that he put Walt Disney at #2.

I almost ____***T myself when he said this. This started a 35 minute debate between us at the end he told me that he changed his mind Walt was worse than Hitler and called me a captilistic moron and threw me out of his classroom.

How the hell can this guy compare Walt Disney and Hitler? :fork::mad:

Speaking as a teacher, that is completely unacceptable. Teachers sometimes get upset or disagree with students, but that is not the way to express this.

Welcome to the world of liberal education. There are professors just like this all over the country.

I won't waste my time posting anything thorough, as I wouldn't be surprised if this thread were deleted for being "too political".

Hey now, Marxism and Liberalism have nothing to do with one another.... don't confuse the political issues there by mislabeling.

Hate is a very strong word.

With an attitude like his its no wonder that he cannot get a job in the real world. Albeit teaching is a wonderful thing, teachers and prof's need to leave their personal views out. I would have stood up and left before he got the chance to toss me out! lol!! My advice, take it with a grain of salt.
So his job is in what, the fake world? I am not saying that I agree at all but that statement is a tad illogical.
If a professor is calling students names and excusing them for participating in class discussions, that's an issue to take up with a department head or dean.

Beyond that, part of college is being exposed to new ideas and ways of thinking, and seeing how much (if any) of what you're exposed to holds up under critical examination. Being in this guy's class probably won't convince you that Disney was as bad as Hitler, but that might just be an extreme icebreaker to open the door for more scholarly criticisms you might not have considered.

I'll admit I never encountered anything that extreme, but I always enjoyed being exposed to people with views I didn't share in college, to see if there was anything of value there I might not have considered.
Very well said.
Wow, I know college professors tend to be liberal, but this is just nuts!Marxist?! And ranking Walt Disney next to hitler for worst people? Absolutly absurd.

What were his reasons for selecting Walt?

And just out of curiousity, who were some of the other people on that list?
See below
This is why we must spend time discussing political and economical ideals with our children, and value systems in general. We as parents have to give them a strong moral center before they face the liberal indoctrination attempts of higher education. This is such a shame, and I'm sure nothing will come to the professor.

Good for you for standing your ground. But how many of your classmates will take his opinions for fact, think of him as a mentor, and then go out into the world with a skewed view of the world?

Come on! Ronald Reagan, Frank Sinatra, WED? Where was Osama bin Laden on the list?
I know that you probably did not do this on purpose but I just have to point out the mis-use of the word liberal. It is defined as being devoted to a general broadening of the mind. In short, it means freedom of thought. A style of education largely promoted by our founding fathers. This guy was in no way liberal in the true sense of the word. Unfortunately, this word has a modern connotation that is false. A true liberal does not necessarily pick a side. He/She is open to ALL ideas.

Forgive me for ranting but I take this to heart because I went to probably the only liberal school in the country. We had wonderful discussions about subjects like Justice, Virtue, Truth, etc. These were all critical in nature and at no time were emotionally charged political views discussed. I apologize if my comments are accusatory or authoritative, this is just a conversation that I often have.:)

The scariest thing about this is that it isn't rare. There are to many "crazies" teaching the future leaders of our country. It's scary. The Nation of Israel???? This is insane.

me too

Just want to throw in my worst college experience... On September 11, 2001 about 30 minutes after the second plane hit I had to go to a class where absences were not allowed. It was a native american art class and the teacher, who is native american went on to tell us how we all had this coming for being white devils who push our beliefs on everyone.... Nothing was done about her either, and my great-grandmother was Native American so I was extremely offended, I think I would have been either way... the entire time I just had my mouth wide open like everyone around me, because of the shock of what had just happened, and knowing that my father's best friend is a fire chief in NYC and that my good friend's father worked in the trade towers... both survived but neither is "right" anymore...

This professor sounds like a closed-minded bully, as are many people you will get stuck working with in business. Use the class as a lesson in dealing with these types. Argue your position with logic (not emotion), refute his ill-informed opinions, and don't back down. If you've done your research and have a well-informed position, you won't convince him to change his opinion and he'll probably dislike you, but at least he'll respect you.

Regardless, take the class pass/fail.

I'm sure all the children from Make a Wish would agree that Walt was at least as evil as Hitler.

Walt was 50 years ahead of his time. Just read about all the conservation efforts at WDW.
