Although I do think your professor is a bit of a nut case, I have to say this in defense of college/university education. Until you leave high school, you are never really confronted with ideas and individuals who can think so radically different than you do. It can, in alot of cases, be a shock to students who have left the comfort zone of their family, home town, etc. Even though this seems to be an extreme case, I think that a student starts to really mature when they are faced with different opinions than their own. You certainly don't have to agree with everything you hear, but you WILL hear things you are uncomfortable with and be around people whose backgrounds are far different than yours. It is how you react to these differences that will help you grow and, believe me, you will face such situations throughout your life. Yes, college can be wonderful and horrible at the same time, but in the long run you will become a better person for perservering. Don't let one goof ball discourage you from attaining your dream...whatever that may be! Hang in there, Kiddo!
