While I've never met a teacher or professor quite that extreme, I did have an American history teacher in high school who pushed his political and religious views on his students. I was one of the three students in his class who had opposing political views, and we often had debates during class. One of the papers in the class was an eight page essay on an influential American of the 20th century. I was told that I wouldn't be able to find enough information for my paper because Walt Disney wasn't an influential American (I went to high school in Orlando...?) I made a deal with the teacher: if I wrote a ten page paper about Walt and convinced him otherwise, I would be exempt from the second paper we had to write.

Before the paper I had a C in the class. After the paper I had an A.:king:

Lucky you! I had an English teacher in high school with the same close-minded views. Disney was the epitome of all that was evil and wrong with the world in his eyes. Being a Disney devote' I elected to write my senior thesis on Disney (The success of WDW and fulfillment of Walt's original plans through the use of the devices of technology and happiness - to be exact). He wasn't too happy with my choice, but pretended to have an open mind. Long story short, 43 pages later he gave me an F. Of course the department chair read my paper and changed it to an A :sohappy:.

I have a professor who on the first day of class said that he was a Marxist. Today he gave out a list that he compiled of the 50 worst people in the 20th century and Hitler was # 1. The problem that he put Walt Disney at #2.

I almost ____***T myself when he said this. This started a 35 minute debate between us at the end he told me that he changed his mind Walt was worse than Hitler and called me a captilistic moron and threw me out of his classroom.

How the hell can this guy compare Walt Disney and Hitler? :fork::mad:

You hate college because someone has an opinion that you don't believe in or believe is dead wrong????

Watch out for the REAL world then!!!

I think the OP said he hates college because he wasn't able to debate such a difference of opinion without getting thrown out of the classroom by the prof.

My daughter just spent a year in a private (not religious) college on Long Island. One of her electives was "Intro to the New Testament". After 12 years in Catholic school, we honestly thought it would be an easy 3 credits to balance out her difficult Chem classes and labs. Her teacher spent most of the time "teaching" the students about the hidden writings on Jesus and how he murdered someone when he was 5! It wasn't up for debate.
Another teacher flat out admitted that she lied to officials so one student could drop her class late in the semester rather than get a bad grade. When my daughter told a counselor, she was instructed not to make a "big deal" about it.
A third teacher, after being emailed, stated that my daughter deserved the not-so-great grade that she was given. An hour later, we received another email from the same teacher, admitting that she made a math error in her grade calculations. Her grade was raised.
All this for app. $28,000 per year without boarding.

These professors are getting away with plenty and keeping their jobs. As the parent paying for these jerks' salaries, I hated college too!

BTW, my daughter transferred to another school in September. Her experience so far has been much more positive. Not every college professor is a ranting idiot.

Good luck to the OP. You're almost out.

Your Prof is a total tool bag but he is entitled to his own opinion. There are a lot of people out there who look at what Walt did with McCarthy as extremely wrong and evil. He like many others ruined the lives of those he said were communist. In his mind he was doing a very noble and American thing, the problem is his words carried a lot of weight. He wasn't responsible with what he was saying and took down innocent people. Now putting him in the same category as Hitler is just stupid, unless your talking about looks. If that's the case, he could have been Hitler's brother. Ever looked at a side by side picture of the two, its crazy how much they look alike. Heil Walt lol

Sorry you came across this jerk. An egotistic professor can be bad news. I once made the mistake of proving one wrong. He had a theory and explained it using statistics - I pointed out a mistake, and later paid for it with a bad grade… The man was a child.
I majored in engineering and found that the best teachers taught but also have (or had) real jobs.

not sure about political, but there was a thread a while back about hitler drawing disney animation, and it was locked after a few posts. some I'm guessing anything hitler will get it locked?

What constitutes a real job?

Welcome to the world of liberal education. There are professors just like this all over the country.

I won't waste my time posting anything thorough, as I wouldn't be surprised if this thread were deleted for being "too political".

While some of his stuff his a little bit OTT, and at times his style leave something to be desired, there is no denying the slant that many teachers put on things.

Figment632, if you don't mind my asking, what school do you go to?

Last year I had a class where we discussed Walt Disney and I found myself having to defend Disney not against the professor but against other students. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but it made me kind of sad that people can look so negatively upon a man who is responsible for bringing so much joy and happiness to so many people.

sounds like he's just trying to be 'edgy'.
Walt Disney has and will always be a true inspiration for imagination, courage, individuality and always having fun.

If your teacher knew anything about world history he would've said Stalin and not Hitler. Now there was a guy about 80 cents short of a dollar!

Personally I say take all educators with a grain of salt. If he truly walked like he talks then he wouldn't be living in the greatest Capitalist country in the world.

Author?

I am willing to be the prof. in question has written or is writing a book about this very topic. That book is sure to become a text for the class. Though you may not know it you may have violated one of the Great Rules of College Registration: :confused:Do not take a class where the prof has written the text.:hammer: If you argue you will not win, and your grade will suffer. Write him off, find another class, and tell your friends - as well as a dean or department head.

I could definitely see that happening at American. I found myself in similar situations when I was there.

I deserve that.
To be fair, I should have said a job outside of academia.

Dr. Raymond Stantz (from “Ghost Busters): Personally, I liked the University; they gave us money and facilities, we didn't have to produce anything. You've never been out of college. You don't know what it's like out there. I've worked in the private sector--they expect results.

I know what you meant. To be fair I have also come across some professors who seemed to be in their own little world.:) Honestly, the worst ones I ever came across were the ones who were somewhat popular. I can think of two that never had time for their students and they would always tell us when they were going to be on TV as if we were supposed to be impressed.

I don't know if this point was made but after reading OP I was moved to type.

This prof. is a Marxist. :hurl:  That's the issue; not the fact he holds Walt Disney in such low esteem. Get him fired. He's there to teach not influence.

No ideology, perhaps in history, has caused more human suffering than those base upon Marxist or Communist ideals.

I happily add, "There's a great big beautiful tomorrow . . . ."

I am by know means saying I support or believe this but I took a intro to Christianity class in college at a Southern Baptist college. What you said was mentioned in passing in the class and was to be taken with a large grain of salt.

Here is the wikipedia article.

It was brought up in our class as an example of writings that may be attributed to other disciple but not included in the final version of the bible.

Again, I'm not debating this whether it is true or not, I just thought it was interesting that we had heard the same thing and thought I would post a link to some of the information.

With regards to the college professors, I think one of the most important things that are inadvertantly "taught" is being able to objectively form arguements and come to logical conclusion when presented with illogical facts.

Whether or not that was the intent of this particular professor is not for us to say, but I think professor like this would be surprised if they knew the extent of an opposite, yet positive effect, they had on some student.

Not at all true.

If kids can't formulate their own opinions on the world around them by college, they should not be there.

You don't think someone in college should have to hear about something that they don't already know?

You don't think they need to meet someone with a conflicting point of view?

Getting prepared for living and working out in the world is such a horrible thing.

Come on.
