The Dark Knight Countdown

Why, why, why did Joel Schumacher feel the need for bat-nipples on the costume? What was the big idea behind it?

In the bonus features from The Batman Anthology they released a few years ago, Schumacher said he was basing the suit off the statues of the ancient Greek Gods. Take that for what it's worth. Personally, I think he is just dumb.

A few people have actually said this to me as well.

Let's stop and think of the worst Batman villains we DON'T want in the new film. For me it would be Egghead from the Adam West series. Or Louie the Lilac.

As long as they leave that stupid Baby Doll character from the animated series out of the next one, I will be happy!

Well, I think we can now safely say this is just insane.

$158 million weekend
$24.5 million Monday (that is a Monday, folks...a MONDAY!!)
All it needs is a $18 million Tuesday at it will hit the 200 mil mark in just 5 days. We are looking at 300 mil by the end of next weekend (10 days)

Bye-bye, Titanic.

I don't think so...Titanic had a MUCH longer run than this will. Due to the revenue that DVD's bring in, the studios want to get the movies out of the box office quicker, so they can get the DVD's onto the shelves.

Yes, at this rate it will...but it will soon die off. I give it three weeks at #1 at most. With X-Files and StepBrothers coming out this week, it'll be tough...and then The Mummy coming out the following week...

Plus, Titanic made like 1.8 BILLION worldwide.

Finally went to see it at 12:30 today. (That's P.M... I'm not that crazy. )

Amazing, amazing movie. As many have echoed, Ledger's Joker completely makes the movie.

My award for best scene goes to the Joker outside the hospital pushing the button. :D

^ Loved that scene, too. That and the pencil trick and him in his nurse gown.

I guess since I"m here I'll give my review. I loved it. Definitely my favorite movie of the summer. It was the most intense movie I've seen. And the Joker was just great. Very demented and comical. He's now my favorite villain.

Oh, and this was the first Batman movie I've seen.

I'm so glad to see Spider-man 3 be de-throaned from the weekend opening. It was such a shame to have such a crappy movie hold that honor. Now a good movie can hold that honor!

Iron Man is still in theaters...it came out May 2nd. It is at 314 million now. TDK will have that by one week from tomorrow. TDK will still easily be in theaters come September.

Plus, Titanic made like 1.8 BILLION worldwide.

I am strictly talking domestic...which was 600 million for Titanic. TDK will hit 300 million in just 10 days. It isn't really that far of a stretch. It all depends on the % of drop off...this movie has legs in the 2nd, 3rd and even 4th repeat viewings.

I think there is little doubt it will overtake Star Wars at number 2 and it really does have a shot at the 600 million mark.

^Agreed. When I saw Spider-Man 3 in theatres, I actually found myself laughing out loud at emo-Parker.

Also agree. I have yet to know what that entire movie is because I end up just walking away smirkin at it  Hooray for a great movie holding the records now!

I liked Spider-Man 3. :lookaroun

(Not as much as 2, which I thought was near perfect, but I thought it held its own.)

I think it'll be fun to watch DK jump up the all-time list. I agree that #2 looks like a lock, and #1 is possible.

Yes, it's still in theaters, but the amount of screens has drastically dropped off. When Titanic had legs...that thing lasted in most theaters for months on end. (I want to say at least 4 months...at the big theaters)

Ironman spent 8 weeks in the top 10. Titanic had the #1 spot for 15 weeks.

Once a blockbuster movie drops from the top 10...it basically means that the majority of the theaters have stopped showing it...or they've severely cut the amount of showings.

While TDK is incredible...I don't see it staying at #1 for 15 weeks...but, those numbers are skewed anyways because the price per ticket is more than it was 11 years ago when Titanic was showing.

They should go by the amount of tickets sold...not the amount of money a movie brings in. Look at WALL*E...I would say that most of those were matinee prices...and children's tickets. Now, consider if all or most of those tickets were full-priced...it probably would've made a heckuva lot more.

At his point, who can say. I had no idea it would do what it has already done. I don't think anyone did. I think if you were my bookeeper, I would take the odds you seem to be offering up. ;)

Sure is popular with Cast Members! Wore an awesome Hot Topic Joker T-Shirt to Magic Kingdom today and had 3 Cast Members compliment me on it. 4 if you count the cashier at Chick-Fil-A!

I agree that it has done better than anyone thought.

This is how I'm looking at it though...

Spider-man 3, even though it's #2 on the alltime money list for a weekend...actually sold MORE tickets.

There are 3 types of films when you're talking about blockbusters.

1. The hyped up movie that doesn't live up to the hype. (Spider-man 3)
2. The hyped up movie that DOES live up to the hype. (The Dark Knight)
3. The non-hyped up movie that gets people in the seats due to "word of mouth." (Pirates of the Caribbean)

The Dark Knight has it all going for it...the hype got everybody in their seats for opening weekend...and now will keep them in their seats relying on word of mouth (from ALL of those people who went opening weekend).

The Mummy will take a big chunk of those viewers away. I'm sure that the X-Files (although that was just marketed HORRIBLY) and Step Brothers combined will take a lot away from TDK's potential too.

I'm hoping it sinks the Titanic...but it'll take a lot.

So well said! I agree with you completely.

It will be interesting to see how much money this movie ultimtely pulls it. I'm wondering when the DVD will come out. Can't wait to add it to my collection.
