Team Cape Breton does the Vorld and the Vonder (Trip report May 1-9)

Hellooooo my lovelies!

This is the trip report to go with the pre-TR (http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=559883) for May 1-9, time divided between Pop Century and the Disney Wonder. Most things stayed the same, but let me break it down for ya.

There was Paige:

Erica:

Lauren:

And me, Kenzie:

We’ve all known each other for ages, going to the same schools since grade school, and were pretty tight in high school. Paige, Lauren and I go to the same university (Mount Allison hollla whatttt), and Erica parties at St. FX (boooooo).

And our story begins..

DAY 7: Wow, you have a nice body

Laur roused herself at 7AM to hit the gym. She came back in rather sweaty condition around 8ish.. apparently running on deck in the Bahamas is a bad idea. Throwing ourselves together, we made it up to the Beach Blanket for another buffet.. breakfast. These buffets were fabulous. There was fresh fruit everywhere! Breakfast was probably my favourite meal.

WUT UP, WHERE WE GOIN?

28561_1374113807287_1665060024_8631.jpg

NASSAU! NASSAU!

We shopped and shopped.. bags were held close as we trekked through Nassau. Not my favourite atmosphere, not going to like. Kind of felt like I was going to get hit by a car every two seconds. Oh well! We did okay, and everyone found a little something.

AND OTHER STUFF
(Erica’s pix, I didn’t want to be flashing my camera around)

Lauren and Paige had enough a little earlier than Er and I, so we stuck around for about another 45 minutes. We went back to pick up a dress Erica had liked, and shopped on the stalls along the water. I got a pair of earrings for my mother for Mother’s Day (which she is in love with and currently wearing) and a ring for myself (bringing my jewellery count for the trip to 2 rings, 2 bracelets, and 2 pairs of earrings).

Upon returning to the ship and our stateroom, Paige and Lauren were nowhere in sight. We said heck with it, put on our suits, and went updeck to find something to eat. Pineapple and soft-serve vanilla.. not an appropriate lunch, and a decision that I would pay for in full later. We worked on our tans with a fantastic view:

28953_1373502151996_1665060016_8619.jpg

THE LOST CITY OF ATLANTIS

I was out for about 45 minutes when my lifeguard alarm went off and told me to find some shade. I was heading to get some pizza when we ran into Paige. Lauren had bailed a half hour earlier (she’s much fairer than the rest of us), and so we all decided to head back to the room for a few minutes to escape the sun.

LOOK WHO I FOUND

28953_1373502231998_1665060016_8619.jpg

IMPRESSIVE?

Lauren was in the room, and ordered room service (fruit for me), which arrived around 2:45.. then it was back to the sun. After being asked (AGAIN) if we were 18, Paige and Erica and I did some lazing in the adult pool while Lauren caught a few rays in a lounge chair. It didn’t take me long to realize I was going to burn to a crisp if I stayed exposed, so instead of applying more SPF I threw on my cover up and went in search of the internet cafe to send the ‘rents and BF a quick email. 10$ later (since the computer froze and deleted my entire first email), I was back in the room.

We started getting ready for supper around 430. The end of Aladdin was on, so we kept getting distracted by Price Ali.. and then we watched Make It or Break It (which I, shamefully, love.. and have seen every episode – it was my reprieve from midterms when my family was in Disney). I kept them updated on the whole Carter/Lauren thing.. from the shower.
Our 615 show on this night was Toy Story the Musical. I wasn’t sure how I would take to this, as it is not a standard musical movie, but I quite enjoyed it. The Buzz song is so catchy! There was a little glitch near the beginning, technical difficulties, but they solved it quickly and we were on our way.

28561_1374114087294_1665060024_8631.jpg

THE SPACE RANGER’S CREED IS.. TO INFINITY AND BEYOND!

As we were waiting, Erica allotted us placed where we looked like we were going..

28953_1373502352001_1665060016_8619.jpg

BOARD MEETING?

28953_1373502432003_1665060016_8619.jpg

MEXICAN FIESTA?

28953_1373502512005_1665060016_8619.jpg

THE DOME!?!??!?!?!?!?!
(Don’t ask)

28953_1373502472004_1665060016_8619.jpg

GARDEN PARTY?

I didn’t take photos from the shows (my bad) because I wanted to enjoy them first hand. Next time!

Following the show, Erica and Paige disappeared (to the bathroom, I would later find out), leaving Lauren and I in line to meet Captain Jack Sparrow.. for it was Pirates night, and we were IN the Caribbean!

28561_1374114127295_1665060024_8631.jpg

BUT WHY IS ALL THE RUM GONE?

This Captain Jack was not as good as the one at the Pirate and Princess Party in '08 (whoever that was, he was AMAZING) and mostly just stood there as in the photo. Also, it should be noted that Lauren looks like cruise line Barbie.

We also had a little !*!*fotoshoot!*!* on deck:

28561_1374114447303_1665060024_8631.jpg

And I embarrassed EVERYONE and flagged down el capitain for some pictures. He giggled.. I assume to make his smile look genuine, but he was quite possibly laughing at us.

GOTTA LOVE A MAN WITH A BIG SHIP

Supper was Animator’s Palate. I had been feeling iffy through our adventures post-show, but decided it was likely because I was hungry. Well, that wasn’t it, because as soon as I opened the menu up I lost all colour in my face and nearly passed out. Hardcore bail on my part, and I was shaking like a leaf when I got to my room. I’m still so annoyed with myself, I know so much better than to let myself get heat stroke like that. Rage. Anyway, they missed me:

28953_1373502992017_1665060016_8620.jpg

28953_1373502952016_1665060016_8620.jpg

AWW.

And came back after supper at 10PM. I tried to rouse myself, thinking I could still make it to the Pirate deck party, but sitting up made me shiver and I continued to lay and watch 101 Dalmatians. To my complete surprise, the other three did the same, claiming fatigue and being too full. We were legitimately asleep by 1030, me in my dress from dinner.

Fail.

They said the food was good though! Apologies for being so lame on our second night.

You're doing a great job, keep up the good work! I'm so loving your girls only trip, we're doing one to Disneyland in July, and then possibly doing an 11 night cruise next year! I can't wait to see the rest!

We partied along with all the children who sang something other than High School Musical and Hannah Montana (Life is a Highway? Anyone all about the Tom Cochrane version? Rascal Flatts ruined it), and got up and did some Shania Twain. That Don’t Impress Me Much. Wow, do I ever wish I had a picture, or even better, a video to scar you all with. I can’t sing to save my life. It was awesome.

I'm with you 100% on this one - I enjoy Rascal Flatts' music, but seriously guys leave "Life is a Highway" alone. Its not like anyone can remember anything else Tom Cochrane sang so let him have it.

I'm not one for cruises but it looks like you guys had a ton of fun. May have to consider one of these in the future!

Loving the update, Kenzie!! Your impromptu people photos rock! And the cruiseline Barbie comment really did make me laugh out loud.

This is such a great trip report. Makes me want to plan a trip with my girlfriends. It looks like you guys had such a good time and you will have pictures to look back on for years to come and reminisce about the great times you had together. Looking forward to the end of your trip.

THank you! You'll have an amazing time.. and I'm definitely tagging along on the cruise!

I'm so sad you missed dinner! I liked Toy Story, too! It's a good one!

I am too =( But I loved the show and I think, in a way, I also really needed a little me time.. even if it was spent on the top bunk, shivering.. haha.

Hahha YES! Give the guy a break. And I'm not against RF, it's just such a classic song.. ugh. I rocked out on my way to work this morning and all I could think about was the lady on the cruise that looked at me like I had four heads.. she definitely had no idea who Cochrane was!

Makes me laugh to look at the pictures, she's usually so pale! Thanks, Holly =)

Kenz, I'm sooo loving the report!!! What an awesome group of friends you have! Can't wait to read more!

Only one more day =(

DAY 8: Helloooo beautiful

Lauren was up again at 7, returning at 830AM. I was up in a heartbeat. I was not wasting another MINUTE of my vacation. I drank a litre of water before breakfast. Castaway Cay was NOT getting the best of me.

We were at breakfast around 9, and I made sure to have a balanced meal. It’s not that hard, really, when you have everything you can possibly imagine in front of you. SO MANY PASTERIES. I’d be such a glutton if we had stayed 7 days. Mmm. We ate on deck, but in a covered area so the seagulls wouldn’t attack us.. we had a great view of the Flying Dutchman!

28561_1374114567306_1665060024_8631.jpg

28561_1374114607307_1665060024_8631.jpg

As we were leaving the breakfast area Lauren and I stopped to fill up our water bottles (LIFE SAVING SMARTS, RIGHT HERE) but lost the other two nuts who obviously could not wait two minutes to get to the beach. We trundled down to the gangplank (or whatever it's called) and waited for a HALF HOUR. Nothing. We then decided that there was no way on God's green earth that they waited that long for us and we adventured on to Castaway Cay.

It was probably 10 by this time, and already very hot. We walked to the store area and then took a tram to the adult beach. We had our IDs all out at the ready, but no one carded us this time. Amazing! Paige and Erica were no where to be seen, so we snagged 4 chairs and went right to the water.

28561_1374114767311_1665060024_8631.jpg

WOWOWOWOW IS THIS REAL LIFE?

We lazed in the sun and chatted and napped for about an hour and a half when the other two showed up. They'd been at the family beach and decided to depart when their spot got overrun with toddlers. No big deal. And so, we all hung out respectively for awhile.

28561_1374114887314_1665060024_8631.jpg

Around 130 I wanted food, so Paige, Erica and I headed up to the barbecue. This is the only time the entire trip that I had a hot dog, or anything resembling it.. and it was SO GOOD. Also some chips and much fruit.. it was just what the doctor ordered! Brought back some lemon for Lauren who wanted to lighten up her 'do and continued to have a time.

Erica and I had a little fotoshooot:

We got back and Lauren left around 230. She knew she was done, and I probably could have left then too.. but I thought I was okay. I was applying sunscreen every 45 minutes to an hour, and wasn't feeling it at all. Keepin' the fluids to me.. you know, all that stuff you're supposed to do. Except, my father reminded me after 12 hours in the airport and 4 on a plane back home, wear a hat. Which probably would have helped. Whatever.

28561_1374118527405_1665060024_8631.jpg

WOW, ARE WE BURNING? CAN'T TELL!

And then headed back to the ship around 3:30 -- met some friendly people along the way and got some last pictures!

We were back in our room on the Wonder at 4PM. Laid down.. woke up.. Burnt. So, so, so burnt. My rear end and back of the leg area got it the worst.. you'll be able to see it in pictures, later. Lauren was badddd. Truly, we were not prepared for that sun. But we still had a blast! Got ready for supperrr:

WORKIN' THE CURLING IRON

I know many might not approve, but when PWalk and Erica were in Nassau they took a little scoot into the LC (or whatever they call it there), and got some liquor. Please remember that drinking age in NS is 19, and they did NOT drink the entire pints that night, aha. Anyway, they wanted a picture:

WORKINNNNN THE CAMO BAG, WOW I AM A REDNECK

Headed down to the theatre and shop area a little early. Got some chocolate and a travel mug and a bracelet (they were cutting the chain.. it's this supa cute heart link chain. Worth the 12$ fooor sure. I have a jewelery problem)

You can see my leg burn, hahha

Went to the show, Disney Dreams, which blew my mind.. I think it was my favourite, but just by a centimeter. I loved the Golden Mickeys as well!

A-HOY.

Then it was time for supper at Parrot Cay! It was very good, and we finally bonded with our neighboring table. Their little girl had come to supper and she was mesmerized by us.. it was pretty funny, actually, because we were tired and being super amusing. Stage one of putting on a show that night.

I DUNNO WHAT TO EXPECT?

The food was great, here are some pictures that I managed to snap before it disappeared! The light was bad, and the flash doesn't do much for it, but I promise it was yummy!

Following that, we said hi to our family and headed out for the night. We looked around a bit, got some water, and then Lauren inexplicably lead us bad to the room where she climbed into bed. She was done, tired, and sent us on our way.

Where did we go? KAREOKE, OBVIOUSLYYYYY. We didn't sing tonight, left it to the kiddies, but we still had a good time. So we sat in the corner with a family, who's small child sang 'The Climb' extraordinarily well, and who were drunk as you know what.. it was hilarious. So someone sang 'Life is a Highway'.. again.. and then SOS. Now, my sister LOVES the Jonas Bros and SOS is my fav.. so I embarrassed Erica and Paige and fully loved my life, sang the whole thing.

28561_1374119567431_1665060024_8632.jpg

28561_1374118967416_1665060024_8631.jpg

JUST A QUICK NIP

Following kareoke, we went to Wavebands. It was country and rock night! This is where we put on the show. There was, originally, one group on the dance floor. Paige and I sang and sang.. my mother was a hurtin' country fan, so I knew all the words. Paige is just a straight up hurtin' country fan. Erica was appalled.

CAN YOU TAKE A PICTURE OF THIS? I"M DRINKING
VODKA OUT OF A WATER BOTTLE IN A BAR
THIS JUST DOESN'T HAPPEN

Anyway, after the country ended we were on our own.. they played regular dance music, but there were probably 8 random men in the bar (?), and we just danced and danced. And got creeped on (WHERE WERE YOUR WIVES?). But it was fun. We peaced, once again, at the Cha-cha slide.

Bed by 12:30.. got a nice little wrap up of the trip coming up. Lovely airport pictures as we spend 10 hours at Orlando International!

May 9 - It's over.

Day 9: Oh yeah, because they always say "threat level green, leave your luggage anywhere!"

This was a painful, painful day. We woke up at 715, got dressed as fast as our sore skin would let us, and made our way to breakfast at 8. We were at Parrot Cay again, and I had some oatmeal. It was a sad morning.

We filled out our customs forms and did baggage claim and all that jazz.. we were on the bus by 8:45 and at the airport by 9:40.

Sounds pretty smooth, right? Really solid day. Well. Here's the kicker: our direct flight back to Canananada was not until 6:45PM. Oh yeah. 9 hours to kill, 6 before we could go to our gate. We were loving life.

Lauren and Erica did a little excursion for about an hour, and then Paige and I looked around. While there ARE a lot of shops, there are not enough to keep one occupied for 6 hours. We went to Chilli's around 12:

28561_1374119847438_1665060024_8632.jpg

28561_1374119887439_1665060024_8632.jpg

SAD SAD SADDDD

After which, Paige started to not feel well (and apparently got sick three times when she finally woke up about 36 hours later at home).

Did some more time chilling.. here are the CLASSIEST of pictures to prove it:

28953_1373504592057_1665060016_8620.jpg

WHAT UPPPP, IT'S 10* IN NS BUT I CAN'T WEAR PANTS CAUSE I'M AN IDIOT AND CRISPED MY LEGS

28561_1374119927440_1665060024_8632.jpg

NAPPIN'
We had a considerable amount of space taken up

28561_1374120047443_1665060024_8632.jpg

FIVE HEADDDD =( AND VITNEY, KILLIN TIME

We saw our family (!!!) again! They were waiting for their 3PM flight home to Chicago. We chatted about how the Blackhawks were doing so well (Lauren's a Hawks fan, regardless of the fact that they beat out Vancouver.. well, really, she is more of a Toews fan, but it's okay cause he's a good lookin Canadian boyy) and then they were off. What wonderful, friendly people our family was. It would be nice to see them again someday.

Post-family viewing, Erica and Lauren went to Lush and got free facials. Then Paige and I went to Lush to get free facials, during which time Erica arrived to tell us that our flight was delayed. Loveeeely. An hour. LOVVVVVELY. So unimpressed. Called Dad and he had has "AIR CANADA, CAN'T EVEN GET A FLIGHT OUT OF A SUNNY PROVINCE ON TIME RAWRAWRRAWR" and we moved on upstairs t wait for another 3 hours.

I got Coldstone, though, so that was a good waste of 7$. All about the waffle cones.

28561_1374120207447_1665060024_8632.jpg

Lauren: Do you know how many people threw up on that carpet?
Erica: In this exact spot? Probably not that many. "Oh hey, had a great flight *blahhhh*"
We died laughing, it's fine
.

Finally boarded at quarter to 8 and landed in Halifax late late. Got through customs and on the road by 1AM local time (an hour ahead).

The pictures in the Airport with the luggage all over the place remind me of coming back from a spring break trip with 19 college friends from Mexico. We were stuck in the Philly airport for what seemed like a really really long time.

Kenzie, thank you for sharing! What a awesome trip you had with your girls friends... My friends and I used you do that sort of fun stuff all the time, but now we're all grown up and don't get to do them anymore! Enjoy them while you can!!!
