Team Cape Breton does the Vorld and the Vonder (Trip report May 1-9)

Hellooooo my lovelies!

This is the trip report to go with the pre-TR (http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=559883) for May 1-9, time divided between Pop Century and the Disney Wonder. Most things stayed the same, but let me break it down for ya.

There was Paige:

Erica:

And me, Kenzie:

We’ve all known each other for ages, going to the same schools since grade school, and were pretty tight in high school. Paige, Lauren and I go to the same university (Mount Allison hollla whatttt), and Erica parties at St. FX (boooooo).

And our story begins..

DAY ONE: Do you have any make up in this bag? Because you girls don’t need any ;)

We flew out of YHZ to YYZ early on the morning of the first. And when I say early, I mean early. We were at the airport in line by 5:30.. considering that we stayed up until 11:30 watching TLC (Say Yes to the Dress!) this was quite a feat. As we were arriving at Halifax International, Aerosmith came on the radio. It was a sign.

31811_1373197024368_1665060024_8610.jpg

HERE WE ARE IN LINE FOR AIR CANADA. THEY, EPICALLY, DID NOT LOSE OUR LUGGAGE.
Don't mind my giant cold sore, I was trying to look as attractive as possible.

We got through security with no problems, and the flight was on time. I got my last Timmy’s, but unfortunately they dumped a small truck full of sugar in it and I could not enjoy my last Tim Hortons for 10 days. Unimpressed. There were some cute cute kids behind us heading to Disney as well, and there were some fairly drunk adults ahead of us (at 730, nothing says class like vodka). Flight number two was quite rough. At security, my bag was checked, and they pulled out my Jasmine crown along with Mr. Blue Ted. Got some nice looks. Yes, people, I am 20. The seatbelt sign was on consistently the whole flight. Silly turbulence thought they could mess with us and the flight attendant that served us, who was apparently unaware that coloured contacts and hair gel hasn’t been in style for awhile. We landed on time.

It took about an hour to unload off the plane, find the Magical Express, catch it, and make it to Disney. Pretty good, all things considered. They stopped at Caribbean Beach first, while we were headed to Pop Century.

AWWW, LOOK AT THE CUTIES ON THE MAGICAL EXPRESS THAT HAVE BEEN UP SINCE 4AM.

We checked in with no problems. There was zero line for those who had checked in online, and we were on our way in about 10 minutes with our packet. Of course, we were as far away as physically possible from the main building, but that was okay with us. We were born in 1990, so the 90s were fitting. Room 8440 was redone as well, so that was an added bonus.

We headed down to the pool as soon as we dropped our gear. Our luggage would arrive later, but we had all packed bathing suits in our carry ons. Sadly, we only lasted about 25 minutes. It was HOT, probably around 3PM, and our pasty Canadian skin was not taking to the Florida sun.

IMG_1174.jpg

IMG_1176.jpg

LOVIN’ IT.

After freshening up, we headed to the food court. It was essentially empty. Threw a pizza into me and we were off to Hollywood Studios. Get this, at 4PM there was NO ONE on the bus. We honestly had our own bus to ourselves, and it was waiting for us as we got to the line. Excellent. Called home, made my father jealous, and pulled into the Studios.

31811_1373197544381_1665060024_8610.jpg

VATT? WHERE ARE THE DISNEY GO-ERS?

While our week wasn’t crowded, the first day was pretty busy. There were many bands hanging around, and we all know how large groups of middle school children behave when they’re together. If you don’t, keep reading, and I will show you how a group of 19/20 year olds act when together, and you can imagine it being much worse ;)

When we landed, we headed right to Sunset. I’m biased, but there’s nothing like the rush to the Tower. The line for the Rockin’ Roller Coaster was 60 minutes, so we passed on that and made the Tower our first ride of the day. It was an estimated 40 minute wait, but it turned out to be more like 20. Paige and Erica looooved it, and I just loved my life.

TOWA PIX!
This is where we came to realize that we were going to hear some weird things in line..
Like: but if you die, you'll never get to have ______ with Brandon!
... okay?

Then we staked out a spot for Beauty and the Beast. We were there about 20 minutes early, and got a great seat for the 5:45 show.

31811_1373197944391_1665060024_8610.jpg

VERY EMOTIONAL, I ALWAYS TEAR UP.

Thennnn we got in line for the Tower again at 630, and proceeded to wander about HS. This was really nice, because it’s something I don’t do very frequently with the fam. We’re a GO GO GO kind of Disney, usually, so seeing all the different parts was nice.

31811_1373197984392_1665060024_8610.jpg

LAUREN WAS HEART BROKEN THAT MUPPET 3D WAS CLOSED.

We headed back to Sunset for Fantasmic! at 8:10. There was a HUGE crowd at this point, and we ended up seated to the left, but fairly close to the bottom (close enough to get the spray from the fans of water, yummy). We all loved Fantasmic!, so much so that at the end of the trip Paige declared it as her favourite nighttime show. I might have to agree. I’m always torn. After this long day, we ended up in a huge-y line for the bus. It extended out of the sequestered area for quite a length. Four busses later, we were home at 8440 POP, and sound asleep by 1130.

DAY 2: He would be fun at a bar.
Oh May 2nd, our first full day in the World.

I got up at 715 to shower, leaving Lauren to answer our wake-up call that was set for 720. It felt like 820 or so with the time change at this point, so it was a relatively okay morning. After we both looked presentable enough to be seen in public, we headed down and got milk for the cereal we brought. Also hit up the drink stations for the girls.

IMG_1179.jpg

VIEW FROM OUR ROOM

Upon returning, Erica was up and nearly ready, and Paige was still sound asleep. After a magical jump on her, she started moving and we caught the bus, arriving at Animal Kingdom right at 9AM.

IMG_1210.jpg

ROCKIN’ OUT IN ASIA

After securing a Fastpass for Everest, for which the line was already an hour, we headed over to Dinoland USA for some dino action.

31811_1373198184397_1665060024_8610.jpg

31811_1373198264399_1665060024_8610.jpg

FIRST STOP: DINOSAUR

Lauren hates this ride. As in, legitimately hates it. I gave her the ultimatum of this or Big Thunder, but she chose Dinosaur as BTMM always gives her a severe headache. There was no wait at all, and we boarded our time machine in a matter of minutes. Lauren disliked it as usual, but the other two were unimpressed as well.

31811_1373198344401_1665060024_8610.jpg

CUTIES HANGIN’ WITH THE DINOS

Then we hit up Primeval Whirl. This wait was probably around 20 minutes. I would like to take a moment to mention how much this queue blows. I realize that many on here don’t appreciate the ride either, but my main problem is with the line up. Poor in design and uninteresting. You also can’t see where you’re going, and heck if I want to stare at myself for half an hour as I’m waiting for a dinky coaster. That is all.

31811_1373198304400_1665060024_8610.jpg

WAITIN’

Everest was next in line. Our 10AM FPs were up just as we stepped up to the plate. Paige fell in love. This was her favourite ride of the entire trip.

28953_1373495831838_1665060016_8618.jpg

GOT TOO HOT AND BOTHERED BY EVEREST AND NEEDED TO RE-DEODORIZE

We grabbed another FP and headed down to Kali to cool off. Wait time was about 20 minutes.. the fires were roaring as we trundled along, waiting to get soaked.

Walking and shopping along the way, we were off to Africa for a safari. Kilimanjaro was listed at a 40 minute wait, and wait we did. Also not impressed with this queue, but I will let it slide. We saw many animals and out and our guide was hilarious.. Prompting the thoroughly repeated phrase “I bet s/he would be fun at a bar”, coming from Erica. We all enjoyed it, minus the huge bump at the end that legit threw me on top of Paige. My heart was beating for a while after that. The wildebeests would have gotten me.

IMG_1261.jpg

SAFARIIII.

Headed BACK to Asia for Everest (we were not very constructive with our touring plan for this portion of the vaca). We were put in the front, loving life in the second cart. After our second journey to see the yeti, we trekked to Camp Minnie Mickey, seeing Meeko along the way.

31404_421468779467_515504467_537561.jpg

IN SEARCH OF THE YETI

Erica and I also had one of those vegetarian eggrolls along the way, and it was quite good. Really hot to be eating something deep fried, but it definitely hit the spot and my tummy wasn’t grumbling as we sat to watch Festival of the Lion King.

IMG_1276.jpg

WE WERE LIONS, ROARRRRRR

We shopped on the way out and took some classy pictures before we pooped out at POP for an hour.

Once returned to Pop, I crashed on the bed, needing a reprieve from the sun (the lifeguard in me told me I could not handle another hour without a break) and the other three did a little tanning. Grabbed food at the food court again (I think I had the Big Bowl Chicken Soup and some breaksticks?) and immediately caught a bus to MK for our 1AM partying.

Clearly, we were wearing matching black. It's what all the cool kids do.

CASTLE LOVIN’

Frontierland was next on the list, but the heat had caused a long-ish wait for Splash Mountain (Lauren’s favourite). We FPed it, the return being for 740, and did a little adventuring in Adventureland. Paige and Erica got rings carved after we did Pirates of the Caribbean (no wait). “CAPER” and “STFX”. Caper because we’re from Cape Breton.. and proud ;)

28953_1373496991867_1665060016_8618.jpg

SWOLLEN FINGERS
Like the band Swollen Members, except we sing Shania instead of rap inappropriately.

Aladdin’s Magic Carpets were next. Lovely relaxing flight we had, too. Some pictures:

A WHOLE NEW WORRRRRRLDDDDDDDD

I made my first Disney purchase, a pair of earrings, at the Island store (whatever it’s called), and Lauren got a beautiful Hurley lined, fur hooded sweater for 30$. Yes. We are most definitely Canadian. I ended up buying one for Carly (sista) for her birthday in July (not that she will wear it in July, but it is still a nice gift).

Following our shopping spree we headed to the hub, and walked through the castle.

BFFS
"If Mickey Mouse was real this SO would have happened"

Waiting in line for the carousel, we picked out our horses. Well, technically Lauren picked out her horse and we were forced to sit next to her. Mine was a warrior. I’m down with the purple.

OUU, HORSIES!
(This is what I picture Nicole riding every day, since she is a Princess)

Philharmagic was a walk on after that, and after trying to make a child smile unsuccessfully for 10 minutes we settled down to enjoy Donald’s silliness. It was a hit, of course.. how could it not be? There’s nothing like the classics in 3D!

And then, there was the Haunted Mansion. I appreciate everyone’s love for this ride, I truly do, but it is not my cup of tea. I went on it as a child, and had a nightmare the following night. Thus, I get rather freaked out at anything remotely scary. This shows, of course, making me the easy target of the CM that was working. If you are on here, dear sir, bravo, for your did your job exceptionally. As we were waiting in the stretching room, he made a great show of staring and pacing around me and the girls (but more specifically me). Being the weenie that I am, I was unable to contain my freaked-out-ness, and reacted. The lights went down, and our ghost host chatted to us, and when the lights came up I turned around to see BAM, the CM. I screamed my head off, scaring small children. Sorry kids. It was excellent.

Splash was next, and I must say that Lauren’s favourite ride looks nice and fresh after the refurb. Erica and I were in the front, and we got wet, but nothing major. It’s the butt that gets it the worst, I feel.

31811_1373199704435_1665060024_8611.jpg

EVERYBODY’S GOT A LAUGHING PLACE

Travelling through Adventureland, we picked up the rings and went to stake out a spot for Spectromagic and Wishes. We got a good one, close though the castle was off center. We claimed it, and Paige and I went to fill up everyone’s water bottles and get some ice cream. There wasn’t much time when we got back, so we waited out the last 20 minutes to Spectro together, taking a few pictures in front of the castle.

31811_1373199824438_1665060024_8611.jpg

ORANGE IS THE WAY TO BE

Spectro and Wishes were both huge hits. This is another time when I tear up. Erica made fun of me the entire time. It’s all good =)

SPECTRO AND WISHES
The finale got a little bright

Since we had not touched Tomorrowland, that was our next stop. By this time it was about 1030, and we were getting a little tired. Picked up some FPs for Space Mountain and did Monster’s Inc Laugh Floor. It was a very good one, super interactive. We laughed the whole way through. Buzz was next, and Lauren dominated. Here are Lauren and Paige looking rather intense.

31811_1373199984442_1665060024_8611.jpg

TO INFINITY AND BEYOND

Time for Space Mountain, and we got through that in about 15 minutes. It was appreciated, but we were all exhausted at this point so much of the atmosphere of MK was lost on us. Stopped at the Bakery (mmm, walnut brownie) before catching a bus to POP sans wait at 1230.

Wow, you are really prompt with your trip report!! Love that it is heavy on the photos.

Hope the weather and crowds cooperated and met your expectations.

Can I ask where did you get those nice t-shirts that you are wearing on days 1 & 2? (at least it looks like the same tshirt in different colors; I do that all the time!) I really like the style of them.

Looking forward to the rest of it!!

Glad you're enjoying it =) We all took so many pictures.. it was hard to narrow it down for my photo album!

The weather and everything was absolutely fantastic. Crowd levels were more than manageable.. we got so much accomplished!

I'm all about the v-necks ;) I got the turquoise one from a store here called Stitches, they're about 10$, but I got it for 5$. And the gray one from day two is from Forever 21! You can order from the website, free shipping on order over 75$! It's my fav.

Really enjoying your report, can't wait for more!

We got the carved rings in Adventureland, outside of Pirates of the Caribbean! You can also get them around Mexico at EPCOT. My sister got me one for my birthday with my name on it.. they're very cool.

Moi?
Oui, mon amour! :)

This is my favorite part about HM...the CMs there rock. Though I'm sorry he freaked you out.
It was awesome, we laughed about it for ages. He had a chat with me after though, and I thanked him. It makes the ride so much more fun!

M'kay. I don't care what you are doing at this moment in time. Get your butt back here and post more! Por favor...

DAY 3: Vitney Valker joins the crew
GOOD MORNINGGGG FUTURE WORLD. We were up at 720, snacked on some cereal, got ready, and hit the busses to arrive at EPCOT at 9AM.

The first thing we did was wait for our very first character: Daisy. Followed quickly by Stitch, who was just chilling all alone until we got there.

DAISY AND STITCH

We waited 25 minutes for Soarin’, which was a huge hit with the girls. I don’t know if I could pick a favourite scene from that ride.. either the skiing or the city, I think. Nemo was next, and there was as usual no wait at all. I this is such a cute little ride.

I HATE DOLPHINS!

Mission: Space was the next on our list. We went all intense and did Orange. They were having some technical difficulties, so our wait stretched out to about 30 minutes after being listed as 10. No big deal. Test Track was next. They really blew this for us, especially the newbies. We watched half of the pre-ride video, and then they ushered us through, cutting off a good part of the information that you need to understand the end of the ride. Then, they opened the barrier much too soon. Paige and Erica were less than impressed, as you can see in the picture:

31811_1373210704710_1665060024_8611.jpg

SAY WHAT?

However, Lauren and I ran into a few boys we know from school while waiting in the line. They’re both from my residence, but Lauren played Mario Kart with them all first semester, so we had a little bonding photo outside Test Track.

Following a tearful goodbye (just kidding), we made our way to Downtown Disney. It got a little complicated. Took the monorail to the TTC, then resort monorail to the Poly, then the bus to DTD. Bad planning.

31811_1373211264724_1665060024_8-1.jpg

LAUREN WAS ALWAYS 10 STEPS AHEAD.. ALL WEEK. GEAR DOWN, TURBO!

It was to the Earl of Sandwich for lunch. I had peanut butter (so cool, right?) but Erica had turkey, tomato, and lettuce and Paige had a caesar wrap. Lauren had yogurt. Don’t ask. Following our little break, we did some serious damage. I bought a nice charm bracelet, and had no trouble spending money on whatever else I wanted. Picked up some chocolate for Dad (which travelled very well, by the way).

A band was playing as we were wandering. Lo and behold, they were from Glace Bay! Glace Bay is also in Cape Breton (this really is quite epic, but first you need to appreciate the size of CB). We cheered for them, but they were too intense to notice us, so we headed for the bus.

31811_1373211304725_1665060024_8611.jpg

GLACE BAY ACCENTS > PORT HAWKESBURY ACCENTS

We waited FOREVER. Legit the longest bus wait of the entire trip. Not happy campers. We got on at 310, got back to the room at 340.

31811_1373211624733_1665060024_8611.jpg

PAIGE AND ERICA ON THE BUS BACK TO POP

We lazed a bit, but Lauren and I headed back to Hollywood Studios (late night until 10PM) around 5PM. We couldn’t waste our night waiting. The bus, however, took it’s good old time. We spoke to a nice g-ma who was there with her 4 year old grandson. He was a cutie. While we waiting for Erica and Paige we shopped, sticking to the original plan.

31811_1373211744736_1665060024_8611.jpg

31811_1373211824738_1665060024_8611.jpg

POWA RANGA CIRCA OUR CHILDHOOD

They were taking awhile, so we headed up to Sunset to check out the times. The Coaster was listed as 15 minutes, so I whipped out the cell, saying heck with roaming charges, and texted her. Too bad they were already there and on the Great Movie Ride. Not sure if Lauren and I have every been that unimpressed in our entire lives. We waited another half hour and they finally arrived.

31811_1373211904740_1665060024_8611.jpg

WALK THIS WAYY

RnRC was a 20 minute wait at 630PM, and it was a major hit. Erica’s favourite ride. We walked over to the Pixar area, but Toy Story Midway Mania was listed as 65 minutes so Star Wars was our next stop. Another walk on, essentially. I’m going to be a little sad to see this one changed, it’s been a top stop at HS for our family for years now. Did some more walking around as well, here are the pix to prove it:

We waited for the Little Mermaid show (Ariel was swell). It was quiet at this point, and everyone was camped out on the floor in the holding room. Following Ariel gettin
some hot legs, we did the Tower and Rockin’ Roller Coaster again.

YAAAAAAA BABY, LET'S SEE SOME LEGG
(Inappropriate for a family site? Probably.)

Toy Story was still listed as 65 minutes at this point. It was 9PM and we were anxious to get it in, so we attacked a family coming off the ride and asked them if they had really waited that long. Upon learning that the wait was more like 30 minutes, we got in line.

I WINNN

Did the Coaster AGAIN and then flat out sprinted to the Tower of Terror. We were one of the last groups on, and coming out, the gates were locked. 10PM came quickly at HS, and we were happily cuddling by 1115ish in the 90s.

Introducing: The Vitney

I am going to take a moment here to explain one of our running jokes this trip. Paige's first name is not actually Paige, it's Whitney. She's not too fond of it, and it was weird for us to see WHITNEY WALKER on all her documents this trip. One day, as we were getting rather silly with fatigue, Lauren hauled out some random accent and "Vitney Valker" was born.

EVERYBODY DO THE VITNEY

To do the Vitney, all you need is a head tilt and an enthusiastic smile.. or an equally amusing face. Mostly, we just used it to make fun of PWalk.. she was a good sport. And thus, Vitney Valker went to the Vorld.. and on the Vonder.

Here are Paige and Erica doing the classic Vitney:

Oh, and by the way.. Vitney not about class, Vitney about comfort.
