So we're exactly 3 years away from WDW's 40th. When do they start prepping?

so I guess we will not be taking tours of the stars or embark on a journey to both our imagination as well as the earths center.

question...are they ever gonna do anything with the old skybucket buildings? Cause its a really great building with alot of potential and its just taking up space...mabey they could put the Beauty and the Beast dark ride there, instead of eliminating Snow Whites Scary Adventure, if they end up going through with the refurbishment of Fantisy Land.

There's a current thread on another board that is comparing the total number of rides/attractions at WDW versus Disneyland Resort. While I had always realized the count was fairly close, it was surprisingly close. As of 2008, WDW and the four parks has a total of just three rides/attractions more than Disneyland Resort does.

And yes, that count includes minor films or aging theater stuff like Impressions de France, Circle of Life, Sounds Dangerous, etc. It also includes walk-throughs or exhibits like Pangani Trail, Conservation Station, Innoventions, etc.

And here's the scary thing for WDW; Disneyland Resort is building five additional rides in the next three years! With American Idol the only "new" thing on the horizon for WDW, the bulldozers need to move in next week and start building a half dozen new attractions to stay ahead of little, old Disneyland Resort.

Yet the recent news for WDW rides is more about "shelving" and "postponing" and "cancelling" than building and adding.

Sometimes I think WDW management forgets their core products are four amusement parks. People want to go on rides when they visit amusement parks. WDW needs to start building more rides!

Wow. That's scary. I bet that most people don't know that. Disneyland generally has better upkeep of their rides too. Wow, I'm still shocked. Only three?!? Were they also counting the One Man's Dream exhibit and MILFCC?

A ride in where? The Fantstation? Way too small. You`d get the store in and that`s it. The entire footprint would maybe do it, but it`d need to be tall enough to hide HM. Plus they have the 20K plot. In Tland, there were plans for the Skyway station, medium term though.

I did a count and got WDW 81, DLR 64. I wanna' see their list.

I know it's OT, but just for fun, because it does still kind of support the topic we are discussing here (long term attraction development at WDW, right?)...

The strategy in the other thread was to not count anything that is duplicated in both Anaheim and Orlando, stuff like Pirates, Soarin', Peter Pan's Flight, etc. Then they counted up the rides/attractions that were exclusive to WDW, and then the rides/attractions that were exclusive to Disneyland Resort. The number between those two lists is where they finally got to a point where they were down to 3 more attractions at WDW than DLR.

Here's the list of exclusives at WDW, and the list of exclusives at DLR, cut and pasted from the other thread;

It didn't get into major live theater shows, parades and "night spectaculars", but that's a surprisingly even draw also, with Anaheim on the move. I think WDW is two up on the major entertainment offerings with Illuminations and Jammin' Jungle Parade, but DLR will be just one parade short when World of Color debuts in 2010 in the DCA lagoon.

WDW Daily Peak Major Entertainment:
Disney Dream Parade
SpectroMagic Parade
Mickey's Jammin' Jungle Parade
Block Party Bash Parade
High School Musical Street Thing
Finding Nemo Musical
Wishes Fireworks
Fantasmic!
Illuminations Lagoon Show

Disneyland Resort Daily Peak Major Entertainment:
Walt Disney's Parade of Dreams
Pixar Play Parade
Disney's Electrical Parade
High School Musical Street Thing
Alladin Musical
Remember Fireworks
Fantasmic!

Yeah, you can quarrel about stuff like Impressions de France or the Boudin Factory Tour. But that's what makes us such a special brand of Disney fans, right? And you know what I just realized is missing from the WDW list? The Epcot FriendShip boats! They are still there, right? That would count as an attraction.

But even if you go back and forth on one or two things, isn't it amazing that Disneyland and California Adventure have nearly as many attractions as all of Walt Disney World?

And there's five great new attractions on the way for Anaheim, with the bulldozers literally on property as I type. Two of which are fantastic new big-budget E Tickets; Little Mermaid and Radiator Springs Racers. The other three smaller rides will be exclusive to Anaheim upon opening; Red Car Trolley, Tow Mater's Junkyard Jamboree, Luigi's Flyin' Tires.

Walt Disney World needs to start on a crash course of building at least a half dozen new attractions. And it wouldn't hurt if they brought back some of the smaller stuff they've ditched over the years, like the Canoes and the Swan Boats. The bulldozers need to arrive on Monday, because the WDW 40th Anniversary party starts in just two and a half years!

Oh, I believe EpcotServo believed that you meant in total, not just exclusives. That's the way that your original post sounds.

Glad to hear Mermaid is still on track, but Lee...
are they going to water-down our version like they did with Pirates compaired to Disneyland's?

You'll notice that whoever gets an attraction first, seems to get the best version. Once they start cloning it, they tend to cut out elements. Someone who has been to numerous Disney parks can probably be more specific to this for us with examples. I'd be curious to know which parks got an attraction first and the clone elsewhere was better or atleast on par. Tower of Terror comes to mind, where the WDW version actually leaves the shaft, yet the others do not. I've heard Pirates is the best at DL, and Toy Story Mania is the same at both parks since it was built at the same time. Im just seeing a pattern and wondering if it holds true. If it does, Mermaid at DL will be the best, with the clone at WDW having cuts.

If you look at it as exclusives, it's the same as counting the total number of attractions. Unless you meant exclusives in all of Disney and not exclusive in this country.

As for the "whoever gets an attraction first gets the best", I know Splash Mountain is a big check mark in WDW's favor. I also think Soarin' is in WDW's favor as the smells are stronger in the WDW version. However, there are numerous examples that support your position - most notably Tower of Terror and Pirates of the Caribbean. What else were you thinking?

I hope not. I'm pretty sick of Disneyland getting these unreal budgets for rides and WDW getting budgets slashed every other day. WDW needs to get some love from the company. Disneyland is great. Now lets focus attention on WDW, give it some great new rides/attractions (not this American Idol gargage) and some TLC to classic rides like Jungle Cruise, Space Mountain, Peter Pan, etc.
