So we're exactly 3 years away from WDW's 40th. When do they start prepping?

Al likes to toot about every WDW attraction being a scaled-back, inferiorly-detailed, smaller-budgeted clone. I'll take that with a sprig of nutmeg.

Exactly! I remember reading about how our version of TSMM was going to be so inferior because of the lack of themeing to the outside building/queue area. I think we all know how that turned out. :animwink:

I would take anything he says about our version with salt.

I have a feeling though that the mermaid is going to be held back much longer because of budget and economy etc etc, the article did say it could even be 2013. He does write it though like its going to be some small nothing, which was the last thing we want to hear but hopefully that wont be true. Its just feeling like they might adandon this now, for now. Its not even been confirmed they are just proposing it according to the article, maybe we got our hopes up a bit fast?

A more compact version of DCA's Little Mermaid ride is being proposed and mocked up for a plot of land in Florida's Magic Kingdom, where their old submarine ride used to be. But the timing and budget for that clone is not yet confirmed, and the ability to secure company funding for that expansion isn't being helped by the financial panic. We'll keep you updated in the months ahead, but the DCA version of Little Mermaid will be the first to start construction later in '09, while the Florida version might be on hold for a bit until Florida attendance projections and finances shake out a bit more for the 2011-13 time frame.

We may lose a scene or two, but I get the feeling that the scaling back will be more to the facade of the building as we probably won't have the water play area and all that which DCA is getting nor the big Victorian looking facade (or whatever that facade is) since it would be out of theme with the rest of Fantasyland.

Except for the rumor of the MK Fantasyland getting a major makeover. I keep thinking they may put the front of LM facing north and it will have it's own "street" that runs over towards Toontown and will include restaurants and shops and maybe some smaller attractions from TDS's Mermaid Lagoon. That is what I think they should do anyway.

Al should get into politics. He is an expert at spinning news.

Is there a preview center for WDW any more? The bigger news from Al was about the new DCA preview center that opens next week and the exhibits it will have in it. The Little Mermaid exhibit won't go in until later.

Is there a preview center at WDW where they could show the differences between the DCA and MK versions of Mermaid? The artwork that Disney has officially released for the Mermaid ride all show DCA.

Not currently. The Main Street Expo Hall was often used for this purpose, but isn't now.

Ah, yes. I vaguely remember that. But it's good to know there's a big space ready to be changed into a Preview Center when the time comes. I can't wait to see the new Disneyland Resort Preview Center next week! The rather bizarre "wine country Imagineering" theme alone already has me chuckling in amusement.

ooo i hope they keep that up for a while i'm goin next june

Yeah, by next June they supposedly will have swapped out the first exhibit for the second phase exhibit; the remade main entrance plaza and the rest of the Paradise Pier remake. I'm sure once the place opens next week the Disneyland boards will be swamped with photos and videos of the models, sketches, etc. on display. Here's the description of the new preview center: http://miceage.micechat.com/allutz/al100708a.htm

I really think WDW needs a Preview Center again like Disneyland. In the age of the Internet any exhibit on display would instantly be broadcast to Disney fans all over the world, and it won't just be visible to people visiting that park and going into the preview center.

Three years away from a big monumental anniversary for WDW and things have to start happening soon to make the deadline! So get a preview center up and running to let people know about it. :)

LP's Spirit of '74 made an interesting statement yesterday, and I quote:

"I would count on absolutely nothing of substance for WDW's 40th. Nothing."

I don't know about that, but they at least need to get some bulldozers moving in quickly if they are going to make the Spring, 2011 kickoff for the 40th. March, 2011 is just two and a half years away, and I assume any year long 40th anniversary would kickoff in the early spring or late winter.

I'm sure they will do something, and God knows the Magic Kingdom needs new rides regardless of any anniversary. But they can't just roll out an old Disneyland parade and some refurbished 1970's E Tickets and call it "BIG!", can they?

Just because the source states that they are "supposedly" doing nothing for WDW's 40th, that doesn't mean nothing new will be in the parks. Seriously, the anniversary is still three years away. So much can happen to a theme park in three years, especially when MK hasn't had an E-ticket since 1992. I say it's time for a grand, new attraction! Even if Disney doesn't make a big deal out of the 40th anniversary, WDI could still be planning attractions that could debut in the 2011-2012 timeframe.

WDW 40th Anniversary is October 1, 2011.

I would assume they would go with the same scheduling format Disney has used for all other anniversary celebrations and kick it off in the spring of 2011, and run it through the summer of 2012.

So that means there is two and a half years until the anniversary celebration starts, and just under four years until the celebration ends.

The bulldozers need to show up next Monday to make it by the beginning of the celebration with a mid sized attraction (which apparently won't happen), or show up over the winter to make it by the end of the celebration with a major attraction (which is looking a bit iffy).
