Rumor confirmations

Soo..as far as any sort of announcments go. If decisions have been made regarding DTD, should we expect something any time now to be announced? And if DHS ideas are currently in the gray area between blue sky and greenlit - are we looking at a possible announcement sometime this year - or beyond?

Check with a Magic 8-Ball. It would likely have just as much of an idea as most of us have...

I would imagine RSR at DHS would be a modified dark ride-only version, similar to the way Nemo was modified for DL and Epcot?

I just don't see TDO approving the full RSR, and not just because of the cost. I think the similarities to TT would be too great. Plus, I'd be interested to see if they could pull off a unique variation, like maybe a WoM "Speed Tunnel" or USH King Kong-type effect.
Saying Test Track and Radiator Springs Racers are too similar is like saying Pirates and Small World are similar. The similarities end at the ride system, and that leaves a lot to be unique. Omnimovers, EMV, boat flume, and even the rafts used at KRR are used in multiple places around the world and produce VERY different products. Indy/Dinosaur, Haunted Mansion/Mermaid/Nemo, etc.

First, welcome! That's an interesting thought about Avatar Land allowing the AK to close later...though, I think they will have to offer more than just Avatar Land to justify the park opening later than it does. If you can only ride Everest and Avatar Rides and It's Tough to Be a Bug, I'm really not sure that will entice people to stay. Does Kali Rapids have lights? I don't think they'd be able to keep that open with lights, which might ruin theming.

Kali River Rapids did run during Evening Extra Magic Hours. Personally I'd love to see them do something like extend the ride with a turnoff before the clear cutting scene and a second hill that would lead back into the clear cutting scene. There's no real justifiable reason for them to do this, but it's fun to dream.

Oh ok, thanks! :) I don't think we've ever gone to EEMH at AK, at least not that I can remember so I didn't know if it was a ride that could be run at night without being well lighted (Sorry I was a life guard for a long time and I think of horror scenarios where a kid stands up and falls out and no one can see him in the dark...grim I know but that's what I think about when it comes to dark water). I wish they'd have made Kali a bit longer too. It's just so short compared to most other raft rides I've been on.

I like that idea. I wouldn't think it would be that expensive...though with WDI, they seem to make everything more expensive than it should be... but I do especially like the idea of the fire effects. Maybe they could add some sort of nocternal animal exhibit/attraction so you could at least see some animals at night. I still do think there needs to definitely be another big addition besides Avatarland to justify it staying open later.

Most Def...Could you imagine if they could simulated so glowing panther eyes in some part of the ride. I imagine they could give the "Night treatment" to a few different attractions.

Yep, but you'd be surprised at how that factors into decisions. Indy was proposed I don't know how many times and it always is shot down very quickly based on CTX. ... I don't see anyway RSRs makes it here and I hope it doesn't. Let DCA have unique product and let's get some here too!

Originally, when it was Tiger Rapids Run, they were was going to be 3 drops and lot longer and run out by Discovery River. Actually, I like Kali better at night, if all the fog effects and the burn zone is working, it's pretty cool at night.

Uh oh. We agree on something twice in a week.

Likewise, management has known DHS has deep issues for quite a while.

That is as good an indicator as any. By not developing the parks to their potential they are just throwing revenue away.

Al Lutz says DCA is breaking records while still keeping guests very happy according to guest surveys.

WDI creates magic for the bean counters if the bean counters just get out of their way.

You mentioned that Iger almost cut the RSR budget and I would imagine he was under great pressure to do so. Possibly to appease people at WDW. Now we will see what happens when a budget is not cut and an attraction or land is allowed to be pretty much as intended. Profit! That is why it was good that WDW was on the back burner while the DCA adds were properly budgeted.

And now there will be undeniable evidence that letting a properly guided WDI create to its potential is a winning formula. I have convidence that Lasseter and Staggs are capable of providing that guidence. The future is bright if DCA's numbers hold and I think they will.

I fully support seeing an "Up" attraction in the parks! I adore the film and think it's got a lot going for it as far as attractions being based on it. Personally, I envision an "Up" attraction working well in Epcot mainly because of the journey that Russell and Carl go on that explores exotic locations and what not. An attraction based on the film could send the characters to so many other unique places with the use of the balloon floating house which would make such a great visual treat. With a theme like that and World Showcase being in the same park, it could be a cool opportunity.

I am not saying that they should because it would be too derivative, but they could do a Soarin' knock off, where you are on the front porch of the house and you float up and away.

i think an "up" attraction has a lot of legs, and it's begging for a unique ride system.

To be honest, that's what I had in mind but I didn't want the idea to come off as a knock off either. An "Up" attraction really has the potential to utilize cutting edge technology if handled by the right talent.

Personally, if I were armchair engineering, I'd love to see a South America / Amazon section added to AK, and 'Up' be the main attraction for that area along with some highly themed animal enclosure areas. Make the ride system look like Carl and Ellie's chairs with balloons attached and simulate 'floating' through Paradise Falls.
