Our last minute first ever trip without the kids: August 2009

Well, we did it. We actually took a trip to the world without our four kids. I really felt kind of bad about taking a trip without them, but after our fiascos on the plane I'm really glad we did it. I'm sure on our next trip our kids will be the best behaved young ones ever. :D

So let's back up a bit. It all started when my dh, Sam, came home from work after hearing about low airfares. He went straight to the computer and started looking at booking a quick trip for the two of us. I rolled my eyes at him and thought that he could look all he wanted, but there was no way we were taking a trip! Then, he started looking into disney...:lookaroun

I started thinking how we really deserved this trip...I had just finished school and got my license to teach, I had had eye surgery in June to correct a detached retina, Sam had been working a lot of overtime...we could use a break. Then we realized that if we used our points, we would only need to pay for air fare and food for this trip. Sold!!! :sohappy:

I booked the next day and the only thing available was Saratoga or Old Key West. We had never stayed at OKW, so we booked a studio. We waitlisted for BWV, but with only a month to be on the waitlist I figured we would never get it. We were happy to try something new anyway. We were very excited to get our vacation info in the mail!

Here we are all ready to go, when two days before we get off the waitlist it actually comes through!! Now we have to get into the mindset of staying at BWV. I think we can manage!

Oh no... not the last day. Even though you didn't get to go to a park, at least you got some character love! Love the Minnie Mouse/Sam interactions. We also had great service at Cape May; they seem much more attentive than the servers at other buffet restaurants.

I loved your report, Jenn. Thanks so much for sharing your trip with us!

We were so happy when we landed and could get off that plane. I really try hard not to be judgemental of others and you can correct me if I'm wrong, but I just kind of feel that once my child has all her teeth and can talk clearly back to me they might be old enough to start drinking milk from a cup... :lookaroun

Welll, that's the end of my report. I had so much fun reliving it! I'm sad that it's over, but I'll be reading all of yours until our next trip! :sohappy:

Not to mention what that child can do with her teeth if she gets mad with her "b." I would have been totally weirded out, too.

Great Report! Thanks so much for sharing. We've come to really look forward to adult getaways, and you said it, the visit takes on a whole different feel to it.

I realized that I prefered Beach Club as well. Sam was thrilled. Even though we aren't planning on staying there anytime soon, I know he can't wait to get back.

HAHA, I think I'd be fine with anything if it meant my hubby was saying he couldn't wait to get back. We could stay anywhere he wanted!

Cute pics of Sam with Minnie! How funny! It makes you wonder if there's actually a guy in that Minnie outfit...:lookaroun

You are not weird to be a bit uncomfortable about the open bfing. In fact this topic can spawn some serious debate in my circle of moms. I'm more discrete, in fact very discrete. My hubby would never want some stranger(forget it, some one else, period) to see my goods! Even if they are for feeding our infant, the infant and he are the only ones who need to be able to see them in his opinion. Anyway...just saying, you're not weird for feeling that way.

I thought for one second about the possiblility of a guy in Minnie, but when I saw how much I was towering over her I quickly ruled that out.

Good to know that we aren't weird. I really doesn't bother me if someone wants to flash it out, but for Sam and other men I would think it's pretty horrifying. You don't want to feel like a perv, but it's hard when it's right there. :lookaroun:lol:

Great trip report Mouselvrmom! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Loved all your witty commentary and creative pictures. My DH and I have been doing couple only trips since 2000, and while I miss taking my children (they are grown now) we really enjoy the adult side of WDW so much.

We agree with you about the Beach Club, by the way. We've stayed twice at the Boardwalk and twice at the Beach Club, and there is just something special about the BC. It's really kind of hard to explain, isn't it. I think it is just so peaceful and relaxing.

I think you nicely summed up that special feeling of the BC! Can't wait to stay there again!

I know that dreaded last day.

I can't believe I even posted that one. It's so silly. I will definitely not be framing that one in my collection. I'm not sure my neighbors need to see that.

Yay! You're going to love Cape May! I wonder how long they'll keep the up character there? I suppose until they have new ones to fill their place.

I just caught up and read the rest of your report. I loved every moment. Thanks so much for sharing all the fun and all the laughs. It makes me feel like we're right there with you guys. I think y'all would be a blast to do Disney with!

Aren't kid-free getaway trips totally da bomb?! We loved our trip we took in May '08. Every couple years I hope to get away just the two of us. We need that. I remember the boys being kinda mad at us but we explained that Mom's & Dad's need time alone to enjoy each other because someday the kids will grow up & have their own lives so the Mom's & Dad's have to still like each other. Then we told 'em Nana was coming to take care of them and they were over it. We were excited to get home to them, tho. It made going home from Disney better, I thought.

What luck to have kickin' kiddies on the plane both ways? Bummer. Yeah, the whippin' out the "b" woulda struck us weird, too. I tried breastfeeding but it didn't work at all for me. I wanted to so bad, tho. My sis-in-law was always sorta weird about it. The whole family poked fun at her for how long she breastfed each of her 4 kids. When the kid can pull her head from under mom's shirt and say, "Okay, Momma...other one", it's prob'ly time to stop. Or walking thru the grocery store the kid sitting in the seat pulls up on Mom's shirt and says just plain as you & me, "I want some ninny, Momma" it's prob'ly time to stop. :ROFLOL:

Oh yeah, the ToT picture with the light reflection! That picture, accidental or not, is spooky and totally awesome. I loved it!

Thanks, sweetpea! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

We were totally psyched about our couples only trip! We had so much fun and it was nice to reconnect a bit. Although it makes us want to bring the kids so much more though. Sam says he totally has more fun at Disney with the kids, probably because he plays off their excitement. Our kids got over it quickly when they heard Nana and Papa were coming over too. They love any chance they can get to be completely spoiled and waited on hand and foot.

And I'm with you on the b issue. When a child can get it themselves it is sort of weird.

I have no children so I am certainly no expert but when a child is old enough to ask for it, it is time to put it away, LOL !!!! Awesome trip report, your pictures were hilarious and I am glad you guys had SO much fun !!!!!
