Marvel teases a Journey into Imagination comic

Indeed. And, if this was Marvel 20 or even 10 years ago, I'd be concerned. But, even before the Disney buy-out, they've been slowly but surely going back to the idea that comics should be fun. While DC was having Superboy rip people's arms off and turning the dog from the Superfriends into Cujo (seriously, he was a demon dog or something and mauled Marvin), Marvel gave us a straight-up super-pets adventure ending with the team befriending the President's dog. I think pairing Figment & Dreamfinder with "The House of Ideas" is an inspired decision.

Kinda reminds me of what Disney did to Alice in Worderland with Johnny Depp. I know I am use to the original Dreamfinder but the eyes on this one... Besides the one I grew up with was jolly. This one looks sinister to me.

Ron Swanson IS the Dreamfinder.

Their Marvel NOW initiative has been really successful. They are really trying to create variety and bring out fresh concepts. I heard that last week they met with Lucasfilm execs to discuss Star Wars comic ideas so I guess we can expect an announcement at Comiccon.

He's already Axe Cop.

Kind of like a homecoming, considering Marvel did the first Star Wars comics.

Could always draw elements from the lost Disney Channel Show. I bet you never knew that Dreamfinder actually has a name.

Hmm....interesting. And according to what I've found on Google, this has only aired once. What a shame.

"Shortly after Epcot opened, the Disney Channel was born and despite the backlog of Disney cartoons and shows and films, the Channel wanted to provide original programming. So that first year, they aired three episodes of a Dreamfinder show, with actor Jack Kruschen performing the character. The episodes only ran once and were never rerun. They are not even listed in Bill Cotter's comprehensive and excellent book on Disney television, The Wonderful World of Disney Television.
Kruschen was a well-known character actor who received an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor for his 1960 role in Billy Wilder's comedy The Apartment and might be remembered by some as having played the Greek grandfathers in the 1980s sitcoms Webster and Full House.

When the Disney Channel thought about originating programming from the Disney theme parks, Ron Schneider tried to get the Disney Company interested in another Dreamfinder television series involving storytelling, but once it went to committee, the simple concept suddenly became overblown and unworkable."

I love Figment, so I'm excited for this comic. Because of the Dreamfinder looking younger, my guess is that they will tell us how Figment came to be and the adventures he had before the events of the ride.

Wow! I never knew that there was a TV show! Was it actually aired, but can't be found anywhere like The Brothers Flub once was, or did it never air at all like The Little Mermaid's Island?

There was also a little known educational series made back in the very early 1980s that featured Figment.
It was a live-action/roughly cel animated combination type of mini series produced and made available to schools by request from the EPCOT Center Educational department.

In the Parks early days this department was tasked with targeting educators and grade schools with educational offerings related to EPCOT...such as these special films, printed manuals/ activity books, and even guided Park tours for school groups.

It was a brilliant marketing move really...as it helped promote the Park, and the serious educational value of what was touched on at the original EPCOT Center even before it fully opened to the public.

I have one episode of this rare animated show, the only one i know of that was openly shared some years ago with the fan community via a fan-made dvd.
*Would You Eat a Blue Potato?* is the title, and it featured a catchy opening title sequence and song with original Figment voice actor Billy Barty.
He also did all the voicework for Figment in the series.

In each show, cel animated Figment would frolic with live action school-age children and have adventures in imaginative settings.
Think of a mellow version of the famous Sid & Marty Krofft style of set design, with inexpensive television grade effects and traditional animation.
Add in some cheesy moments with the live children...and you have a good idea of what the series was like.
In the case of *..Blue Potato*, the theme was colors and how they can effect your thought processes.

The animation was rough....which was surprising since this was a official Disney offering in the early 80s.
The quality of the animation was television grade, which at that time was more akin to 60s/70s Hannah Barbara-style limited movement animation from what i recall of the show.
Certainly not something that looked polished and appeared to be *Disney Animation*.

Figment*s design style looked like a cross between today*s *My Little Pony* (HUGE eyes) and cute-style Japanimation.
Best way i could describe it.

Not sure how many episodes of this educational series were made, as i have yet to have come across a concise and complete list.

I have often thought that trying a show similar to this concept today would work well.
If done properly, i am sure it would be a massive hit on PBS or even cable/pay tv.

There is SO much that can be done with these characters...Figment and Dreamfinder...outside of just a Theme Park experience.
