Marvel teases a Journey into Imagination comic

Too funny. I had a weird thought of the old 80s Dungeon and Dragons Saturday morning cartoon. I wasn't a fan of any of that stuff but the premise where these people got on an abandoned (was it abandoned? I never really watched the show past the opening) ride and were transported to whatever other world that was. This is going solely on memory but it always creeped me out as a kid which is why it stuck in the recesses of my mind. Something like that would make for an interesting premise too. Get on the horrid ride and be transported through to an alternate dimension that lives on? Magic turntable?
There's fanfic for the d&d cartoon.

I read it. That's why I'll never read fanfic again.

I knew they'd probably redesign Dreamfinder if they'd ever bring him back, but I wasn't expecting him to be this Depp-ish. Is this what Old School Doctor Who fans felt like when they first started NuWho?
Kinda reminds me of what Disney did to Alice in Worderland with Johnny Depp. I know I am use to the original Dreamfinder but the eyes on this one... Besides the one I grew up with was jolly. This one looks sinister to me.

But that's what I find interesting about this picture. Earlier I mentioned a possible origin story, we don't know much about the Dreamport (other than it's never far away, when you use your imagination). I like to imagine it's a type of business or job position for example. Maybe this Dreamfinder is "fresh out of college" so to speak and has that cocky/it's in the bag kind of attitude. Later on through the story something will happen to cause trouble especially since imagination can be a dangerous thing, maybe he accidentally causes something to happen to his purple friend that he has to fix (maybe Figment looses his childish delight). Then in the final issues it shows an older Dreamfinder, who has experience under his belt, who has learned the wonders and joys that imagination can bring and embraces his new role aka Santa Claus...they've both got beards after all;)

While i am certainly a fan of the steampunk-ish vibe present in this sample of the artwork, Figment's eyes are another matter.
Egad...it is clear that he has obviously been sniffing some fumes from certain art supplies.

Cannot stare at them for too long...it effects me in a disturbing way.

Nice to see these characters getting some attention.
These two, and the concept(s) expressed in the Original Attraction all those years ago, are as timeless as ever.

I really like it. I think he looks kinda bada** and contemporary personally. IMO there's no denying the original Dreamfinder had a somewhat 1980s design, and I like how this one gives him a shave and a trimmer figure for a more modern look. He certainly looks like he's more up for a Marvel-style adventure this way.

What I find sad is that other divisions of the company now feel responsible for addressing deficiencies in WDW that apparently Imagineering cannot.

You know, aside from the Dreamfinder D23 appearances, this is the most attention Imagination fans have gotten since they decided to put Figment back into the ride in 2002. The words of this other magic bearded man are pretty much perfect for this situation.

I'm actually going to take a wait-and-see approach with this one. It looks interesting. Could be bad, could be good. I am intrigued by the teaser art with a younger Dreamfinder and an excited Figment.

Regarding the comparison with the Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland: I found that movie interesting too. It introduced an uncomfortable surrealism into the Alice in Wonderland universe...which is what Burton is good at...and which is very different from how I want to feel about Dreamfinder, Figment, the Dreamport, and that universe. I would hope that the minds behind this resurgence recognize the appeal of Dreamfinder wasn't that he was a mysterious guy taking us with him into a surreal world of fantasy. Rather, he was a guide into the realm of imagination - which is as real as our imaginations can make it. I'm used to the Santa Claus type Dreamfinder, but I don't mind him being young and unpredictable, and at the same time comforting and familiar. It could be a neat take on the characters.

I hate Nemo in the Seas. I hate the idea of Frozen in Norway. I don't hate this at all, and look forward to seeing what they do with it. It is interesting that these characters, relative unknowns to anyone outside the EPCOT fanbase, will soon be back in another form of media. Everyone knew Pirates of the Caribbean before that universe made the themepark-to-media jump when the first movie came out in 2003. Not many know Dreamfinder and Figment (more know Figment than Dreamfinder). This change in media will be neat to watch.

In the end, it could go nowhere but a series of comics. Or, someone may be attempting to vertically integrate Dreamfinder and (good) Figment back into the pavilion in which they were introduced to the world originally. Man do I miss EPCOT Center.

This looks stupid. It's not going to sell any additional copies just because Dreamfinder looks hip and young. Just give us traditional 80s dreamfinder.
I am going to have to disagree with you there, I definitly think this is going to sell more with this newer look. While I love dream finder in his initial incarnation it doesn't translate well for the type of comic they are trying to do. Which is one that modernizes and gives the character some edge and appeal to everyone rather than the hardcore fans of the ride. This fresh take on him right introduce some new fans, and I am all for it. To me it looks like they are making him more of a sleek character who perhaps goes on dangerous and exciting adventures, rather than the kind grandpa he comes off as in the ride. I like the doctor who comment, as this could very well be Disney's version of that, a man and his friend who travel through the realms of imagination rather than time. Which isn't all rainbows and clouds, imagination can be a scary and serious thing! The ride taught me that much!

This is how the attraction has taught us..

First Incarnation: Imagination is our key to unlock the hidden wonders of our World..A great source of information with many possibilites.
Second Incarnation: Using....your Senses.....To create....Imag..I..nation.........yeah I got nothing on that..
Third Incarnation: Using the Fives Human senses to and I quote "Capture" your Imagination (How villianous).......Oh yeah and then there's this dragon that flies around wreaking havoc and telling us that Imagination is the brain's open house....
