Highs and Lows in Disney: My Mouseketeer's Second trip to the World (1/18 - 1/30)

Well, I’m writing another trip report. This trip has had so many highs and lows (and I mean that in many ways).

Anyhow, this trip involved many more players than our last trip.
http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=357959

First of all it’s myself, my DH and our 17 month old, Anastasia. We also went down at the same time as my in-laws, and DH’s two brothers and their wives, as well as my Mom, so it was really a full house.

Without any further ado…

Sunday January 18th

We left way early for the airport because we were paranoid that there would be traffic left over from Obama’s entourage as they followed him to the capital, but there was nothing. DH’s brother got there a full hour after us and we all got on the plane just fine. They amused Anastasia for us right up till when we took off.

ry%3D400

She was wearing her airplane shirt again, and again we got many comments on how cute it was. Anastasia made a friend in the airport… a little girl wearing a bandanna was drawing with markers and we got to talking with her. Anastasia wandered off and I said goodbye… well, a few minutes later she tracked us down and said that she wanted Anastasia to have her picture. It wasn’t till we arrived at the Orlando airport and saw the greeter for that family did I draw the line between her head scarf and why she was going to Disney. She was on her Make-a-Wish trip L I nearly cried. But I smiled at them, thanked her for the picture and wished her a fun time in Disney.
ry%3D400

The flight itself was interesting. Thank goodness there was an extra seat open for Anastasia. She sat in the carseat the whole plane ride. No explosive poo, no giant meltdowns. My bag of toys kept her involved for a while, as did my extensive bag of snacks. The only problems weren’t really her fault. First of all, I totally forgot about the whole pressure difference thing when I handed her the sippy cup of Pediasure to drink (which I totally snuck by security by putting it in a baby bottle…hehehe) When I pushed back the top closure to release the straw the liquid rushed up and out creating a little fountain that drenched Marc. Poor thing was just covered in Pediasure.

Secondly my borrowed laptop totally bummed out on us and wouldn’t play Finding Nemo for Anastasia. We finally got it running on Marc’s laptop, but not after much consternation and getting up to get stuff out of the overhead compartment.

After we touched down, we got our bags, I changed a diaper, and we stood in a horribly long rental car line. And then we were on our way

When we woke up this morning all of our beautiful weather had disappeared. It was not in the 40’s outside (with the wind chill) and was cold cold cold!!! Nevertheless, we decided to hit the AK this morning with DH’s brother and SIL. We got there right after opening, all bundled up in warm clothes.

We made a beeline for Everest and baby swapped with them. It was sooo cold making that decent up to the top of the mountain. All the wind was whipping in your face the whole time. Not terribly enjoyable, let me tell you.

After that we walked back to get Fastpasses for the safari. We all wandered around seeing the animals on the trail while we waited for our time to come up.

We got back to the safari to use our Fastpasses… only to have them be useless as it was a walk-on at that point. Oh well. The safari was not the best I’ve had. Not too many animals out due to the weather, and it was mighty windy rattling across the savannah in an open-air vehicle. Anastasia didn’t really enjoy this much. Too much like riding in a car, and too cold. She had had enough towards the end of the safari.

ready to go!
ry%3D400

"I'm cold and bored Mommy... turn up the heat!"
ry%3D400

Afterwards, we wandered up to see if the tigers were out and we noticed that Kali River Rapids had a 30 minute line!! Silly silly people! Can you say hypothermia? You wouldn’t catch me dead on that ride in those freezing temperatures. We caught a few animals and then headed out for lunch and Anastasia’s nap.

She did find one thing she liked: the chains at the end of the bird area.

After Anastasia woke up, we dropped her off at DH’s parents’ villa for a little babysitting. We were then on our own! Woohoo! We headed back to Epcot for our dinner at Le Cellier. Yum. I had the three course meal – starting with the cheddar cheese soup of course. Still yummy.

ry%3D400

Dh had a Caesar salad, which was good, if overpriced.

ry%3D400

For the entrees he had the coffee rubbed strip steak, which he proclaimed very tasty, but just not a filet mignon. I think he liked it, but wouldn’t order it again.
ry%3D400

I got the prime rib, which was good. I got hungry and had already taken a bite when I took this picture. :lookaroun
ry%3D400

I ordered a side of risotto because I wasn't getting the mushroom filet mignon like I normally get. It was kinda undercooked, and they initally brought out a plate of sauteed mushrooms instead. But they fixed it and brought this out.

After dinner we met up with Vince (MerHearted) for a quick tour of the World Showcase and a ride on Spaceship Earth. Sadly we couldn’t stay longer, our baby-free hours were up, and we headed back to put the little one to sleep.

"Smile! I ORDER you to smile!"

Our version of the future... the same as always. I've got to change up my answers.

Wednesday, January 21

We got up and out a little late this morning… dang cold weather. I never knew how to dress for those days. Luckily Vince was already in line at Pixie Hollow at the MK. I was quite excited to meet the fairies! Sadly, Anastasia just isn’t cut out for waiting in lines yet. It’s something that just doesn’t come naturally to toddlers. She was quite bored to tears standing in line. But thankfully it wasn’t *too* long that early in the morning.

We were shrunk down to size and handed a tiny little photopass on a cord because everything else is tiny in Pixie Hollow. So cute.

On the way in, we passed these little guys…

ry%3D400

When it was finally time for her to see them, she wasn’t terribly thrilled. To her, they were just nice people in fancy costumes. We saw Irridessa first, and she was nice…
ry%3D400

But then we moved on to Tinker Bell. Anastasia was just a happy thing and ran around so much she was dubbed a “Sprinting Thistle.” She then noticed that the entire room is covered with flowers. Flowers are a new fascination with Anastasia...
ry%3D400

She loved Tink's shoes... they had a dandelion puff on each one.
ry%3D400

But then she noticed more flowers in the background and off she went to sniff them all. So much for Tink!
ry%3D400

She got on grandly with Rosetta, who announced that Anastasia is certainly a Garden Talent Fairy.
ry%3D400

Taking a short breather from all the flower sniffing.
ry%3D400

And then back at it again. She had a ball runnigng around all the oversized props
ry%3D400

Finally it was time to get moving... she had to say goodbye to them. I think she had fun. More than I thought she would. Thank goodness for oversized flowers!

Then we went to visit the princess room. The wait was a bit longer at this point, so by the time we got to their room she had just about had it.

Sleeping Beauty was fine...
ry%3D400

Cinderella wore a fancy dress...
ry%3D400

But what captured her attention??

Belle's dress had flowers on it!! It took me a second to figure out just what she was doing... then I saw the fabric roses on her dress. Anastasia thought they were nice and decided to give them a sniff.

At one point she tried to sniff the ones on her bodice, but we discouraged that.

ry%3D400

Then Belle brought out her fluffy feather pen. She had a grand old time being tickled with it.
ry%3D400

"Ooooh pretty gloves!"

We wandered up to see if Ariel had a tolerable line (she did not) and then hit up one of Anastasia's favorites.

"Oooooo!"
ry%3D400

Oh, Small World... how long has it been since I've listened to you over and over and over and over... Sadly, even though we rode it around 10-12 times over the course of our trip, we never managed to get on as the clock chimed. She was constantly saying "clock" and pointing to it. Poor thing.
ry%3D400

After Small World, we found Alice and the Mad Hatter... but first had to stop and smell some flowers while we waited in line.
ry%3D400

Anastasia found a leaf on the ground, which she proudly presented to the Hatter... I know these pictures aren't the best, but it's tough getting good shots when there's a toddler around :dazzle:

Then we finally managed to meet up with Cinderella's Evil step-relatives. I made sure Anastasia had her Mouse Ears on for this meet up...

ry%3D400

Oh goodness, they were a riot. If I was ever a character, I'd want to be a stepsister! They have so much fun!

Anastasia stole Anastasia's ears (Rodent Ears they called them) and modeled them for us...
ry%3D400

Drusilla complained that she's never met another one with her name in all her time meeting people, and Anastasia quipped that they broke the mold when they made her. They insisted that we name our next daughter Drusilla.
ry%3D400

ry%3D400

At one point PUSH wandered up to the back side of Cosmic Ray's and they all went crazy exclaiming about the "Talking trash can!!" and how COULD Cinderella let the state of her kingdom go. So funny.

Before we left, Anastasia got her revenge on Anastasia for taking her ears. She latched on to her bangs... hee! Poor thing. We, of course,
admonished her for pulling hair, but everyone thought it was funny. I tried to see these guys another day while we were in the parks, but we never ran across them again :(

ry%3D400

We then headed back to the room for lunch and a nap. We spent the rest of the evening in. I made dinner in the room, and we rested up for the next day.

Even though my girls are only 5 and 8 I miss those days of them being that little and seeing it through their eyes at that age....It goes by too fast!

Bunny, I loved the Toontown pictures (these, and the ones with the Fairies). The one of Anya sniffing Belle's dress is so cute!!

I was on my own with Anastasia this morning, since DH had to stay at the resort and take an hour long conference call (Grrr…) So I packed up the girl, hopped a bus, and went to the Animal Kingdom.

Oh, and did I mention it was COLD there? We had frost on the cars when I walked by them on my way to the buses. That’s insane! I left my car ice scraper at home. Plus I wasn’t really feeling the best this day. My throat was kinda scratchy, and I had a sinus headache, but oh well! Off to the parks! There’s no getting sick at Disney!

The view from our Villa
ry%3D400

We got there right as the opening ceremony started. When the rope dropped we made a beeline… for the character landing. I was waiting patiently at the rope for the CM to let us visit with Pooh and friends. She commented that she’s never had anyone waiting to be let in before!

We had fun with the characters – she had all three to herself for a good 10 minutes before someone else came to get in line. It’s really so funny to see her play with them. She has no interest in anything but having the big stuffed animals play with her. She wants them to chase her around and play games. So very cute.

After we left them, we headed over to Camp Minnie Mickey on the off chance that the characters were out a little bit early. They weren’t, sadly, but Pocahontas was! She visited with Anastasia a bit – pointing out all the character statues by the stream. We waved goodbye and wandered down the path a bit to where the characters meet.

ry%3D400

Anastasia had a good time just wandering around. I let her just run loose for a while, and she loved it. Quite a change from the close grip I normally keep on her.

ry%3D400

A few minutes later Pocahontas came wandering back our way because she was all alone. The two of them hung out together for a good long while – it was just us all by ourselves. It was so nice! She was really such a sweet character. They went looking for all the flowers in the area together, picked up leaves, found sticks… it was her own personal nature walk. This was one of my favorite mornings of the trip. So relaxed.
