Which is basically what we have in AK with Dinosaur...I know the argument has been made that we have three Dumbo rides in the Magic Kingdom but do we really need IJA when we have Dinosaur?

Do we really need Splash Mountain when we have Pirates? They are both flume rides.

It's all about the themeing.

We could have both and nobody would be any wiser about the attraction mechanics since the theme would be so drastically different.

It concerns me to think that an entire generation is oblivious to Mark Twain, America's first popular humorist and the forerunner to Saturday Night Live. (No joke!)

None of these can be replaced, but CoP needs to get repainted with a more eye-catching color scheme.

The tree house gets much higher attendance than you may think!
Unfortunately, much of Mark Twain is unofficially banned in many schools here.

One of the things that I love about Disney parks is that he contain some UNIQUE experiences. Where else can you climb into an enormous tree house full of clever devices built out of ship parts and nature? Every time I've been there has been a good sized crowd climbing the treehouse all day. The problem I see with it is that people don't remember the movie or the book. And the attraction doesn't do a very good job of making new fans of the original material. Perhaps a preshow of sorts, or castmembers telling stories of living on the island.

Tom Sawyer Island has the same problem, a need for more information, a way to introduce the wonderful world Mark Twain created. And the island could use updating. But to get rid of it would be nuts. It's a peaceful spot where kids and adults can have some simpler fun.

COP is definitely one of those attractions that needs SOMETHING. It seriously needs updating, and a lot of re-writing to make it more relevant to today's guests. Certainly NOT a TIKI ROOM like makeover, but something. And where else can you have a rotating building?

Disney needs to find a way to better promote these attractions because they are unique. They could all use a careful update.

But removing them would be another misstep towards turning Disney into a generic themepark. We already lost the submarine voyage with no unique replacement.

The first time I went to Disney World I was 8 years old and loved Tom Sawyers Island. If it were to go I'd be sad.
If I had to get rid of something I'd get rid of Stitch. They should have kept Alien. It scared me to death but now I look back and it was sooo much better than Stitch.

Speedway

I am AMAZED that Disney has not adapted the Speedway to a CARS theme. It seems like a lost opportunity. This ride has long lines, even in the off seasons and could use some new management. But it is one of the "old school" rides, so they may not ever change it - too bad. I love Tom Sawyers Island, especially on a hot and over crowded day - it is a great place to just chill for a while - though getting there is as bad as driving down I-4 on a Friday afternoon. The Tree House is simply an easy wander. CoP is simply a fun reminder of the old Popular Science view of "the future".

The worst ride of all is the "Stitch" /former Alien Encounter mishmash:eek:. It is a waste of space - not thrilling, interesting, or amusing. I wish they had kept Timekeeper :ROFLOL: and lost this thing! It is too bad, too, because Stitch is a fun character whose potential is robbed by this attempt at a "dark ride".

haha thanks. I worked at GMR and you have NOOO idea how many times I'd have to say that every day. People didn't understand that we were very serious and I have on numerous occasions stopped the ride and had to personally go up to people and tell them to stop. uuugh.Big time pet peeve!!

I, personally, ADORE CoP. It's a nice, interesting, friendly, easy-to-watch show, and a good couple of minutes in a dark, air-conditioned (rotating :animwink:) theater. And it's got so much charm, and a fun song you can sing all day and drive your family crazy with  What's not to love? :)

Now that Disney got wise and got rid of the, imo, worthless clubs and shops in Pleasure Island, what should they dump next?

Nostalgia is fine and dandy, but it don't bring people into the park now, its new better rides or attractions. My personal choice of attractions Disney should dump:

Carousel of progress- Its nothing more but a time waster and space eater. Prime property like this could be used for something much more meaningful. Sure it has history, but it needs to go. Extremely dated.

Swiss Family Treehouse- Do people even go to this any more? In all my years and trips at Disney, I've personally never experienced this one. Someone please explain why this should stay?

Tom Sawyer island- Quick, ask a child under the age of 10 if they know who Tom Sawyer is? Chances are they don't, and this old attraction is showing its age with every day that passes. Its really not fun anymore, even for my children. We don't even acknowledge its existence when we visit.

So if you could dump one of these, which one would YOU choose?

You are partially right. Nostalgia is not enough to justify old, outdated attractions, especially when they cost money and space that could be used in a much better way. But the problem is you listed attractions that are particular bad choices for this question with the exception of CoP.

Tom Sawyer Island is of course outdated (how ever it is doubtful, that people don't know any longer WHO Tom Sawyer is) and nothing spectacular. But it is a minor attraction with low maintenance costs and a bad example. What would YOU place on the location which is not very suitable for any big attraction due to the fact that it is an island in the middle of an artificial river? And concerning the SFT. They could change it into a Tarzan Treehouse as really most people nowadays don't know the background or the movie. But what else should be placed there? It is an important icon of advetureland, a wienie and brings atmosphere to the area. And does it have a lot of runnig costs? NO.
And the CoP. I don't like it, I think it is outdated but I just checked the map. Its not that big either and there wouldn't be alot of space if it would go. However I wouldn't care about if it would while I strongly oppose any ideas about destroying Adventurelands wienie. And one question stands above all the other aspects? WHY? Do TSI or SFT use up a lot of money, precious reserves, a lot of staff or space? Quite the opposite. And what would be won if they go?

There really isn't a huge amount of room in between Pirates and Jungle, unless you'd have the queue going pretty far back.

And the SFT footprint is actually bigger than you'd think. Lee or Martin posted a picture of HM fitting in its spot.

Not to be argumentative, but there is NO WAY HM would fit there. HM is a huge warehouse

Off Topic:

That's disgusting. No wonder so many American kids don't appreciate their own culture.

In addition to being our first popular humorist, Twain was one of the first American authors outspoken against slavery. His "controversial" language was common at the time and shouldn't be considered racist. Of course, educational systems are more concerned with being politically correct than with teaching kids real history.

What do the kids in your school district read?

I personally dont enjoy going on COP (I find it EXTREMELY boring) but my Grandma loves it...and I agree with Figment632 about Walt's request that they never get rid of it!

Swiss Family Treehouse is really neat and I do it almost every visit....Its really cool at night to go up to the top and see the park!

Tom Sawyer Island...Id be kind of sad to see it go...lots of childhood memories there but at the same time its a major waste of space that could be used for something much more exciting...and now that Im older we dont even waste the time to go there....its pointless!

Why do some of you think any of these attractions have to be replaced?

The MK already has four perfectly good expansion pads that need to be used before anything is replaced. :p
