I love CoP, I don't think it should be replaced, but updated. I think out of respect for one of Walt's original ideas, it should be kept around but not necessarily kept in the same form. At the very least, I think the final scene should be updated, it just seems a little corny to people watching it in 2008.

As for the treehouse, I quite like it, and usually take a walk through it each time I visit the park.

I'm kind of impartial when it comes to Tom Sawyer Island. I've only made the trip over once, and it was ok, but I'm not sure what else they could do with the space.

The end is an embarrassment to anybody with a cell phone.

Disney thrives on people's memories, traditions and guests wanting to relive childhood memories. If they were to get rid of every old attraction then they would kill everything they've strived for. I just don't see it happening.

Yes, but not at the expense of future development. Walt Disney may have love COP, but had he lived long enough he too would have replaced it with something more modern. Same with the Tree House...he probably would have re-themed it to Tarzan. He was about nostalgia, but not if it got in the way of progress. COP is an antique today. The Tiki Room is simply quaint. I bet half the attractions in Magic Kingdom would have been removed by Walt for something better. And so what if COP doesn't take up much space, Disney can more than fit a new attraction there.

Hey some of us are still tryin' to replace our ice boxes with them refrigerator units let alone getting those new cellular phones without wires or them laser video discs!

(Americans banning To Kill a Mocking Bird and Mark Twain and burning Harry Potter books, you folks must really love literature!)

Sorry, I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings by making an obviously untrue comment that ALL Americans are like that, just some, very few individuals who unfortunately ruin experiences for others. Hyperbole is a literary device you know.

back on topic Swiss Family Robinson is way better than Tarzan. besides I like a treehouse that does not have giant plastic figures in it and feels like a real home and not a wax museum.

I'm glad CoP is getting the love it truly deserves and Tom Sawyer's island isn't a place I've been to recently. As long as we don't have any more windmill related rehab problems I'm fine with that place.

Only some short-sighted school districts to that.

Remember, we're the country that was so politically correct, major businesses didn't want to actually say "Christmas" two years ago.

Other industrialized countries accept it as simply the name of the holiday. Leave it to our stupid American HR departments to be so afraid of stepping on someone's toes, they squash their own culture in the process.

I share your dismay/disgust (and I'm an American!) But that's another thread...
Meanwhile, where's my Indy ride?

You're awfully quick to speak for a dead man. None of us know what Walt would or wouldn't have done. Do you think Walt would have replaced Mainstreet USA just because it wasn't modern? Many of the attractions built in DL or WDW weren't modern even at the time they were built. Who's to say that the nostalgic rides get in the way of progress? There's plenty of room for progress but it doesn't mean it has to be at the expense of everything else.

CoP is here to stay. We always ride it at least twice during our visits and find it relaxing. We like to sit right down front. Also good time for a nap if needed.

The Tree House...it can go. We did a it a few years ago and we'd take a few steps, stop...take a few steps and stop...all the way up and back down as people stopped in front of you to look here and there and I found it to be a complete waste of time. We totally skip that one now.

Tom Sawyers Island is fun, once. Seems something more 'useful' could be done to this space.

No, he would not have removed Main Street. That was his nod to the past. However, when it came to the attractions, he wanted them to be appropriate for their location and theme. The Tiki Room was hugely popular when it first opened. The Swiss Family Tree House tied in nicely with the movie of Swiss Family Robinson. He wanted live animals for the Jungle Cruise (and had to settle for animatronics). Many of the rides at Disney don't do anything but move you from point A to point B past a series of scenes...Walt Disney wanted those scenes to be the ride...and if the scenes were to be about the future, he would want them to be current. Since I don't know how popular the COP is with the average guest (maybe it's just popular enough to justify keeping it), I won't say it SHOULD be removed, but it would definitely need to be more accurate to today. Or they perhaps should re-theme Tomorrowland to the future of yesteryear...since that is more closely to what it is (and unitentionally so).

The one thing nobody has mentioned about TSI is that it is an environmental piece as well. It nicely themes the whole area of Liberty Square and Frontierland. There is a nice ambience about the river boats in the background and a forested island with old mill and windmill, etc. If all that was ripped down in favor of a "major" attraction, it would look stuffed in, congested, out of place and sort of make Disney look like Six Flags. A BIG concept in Disney is themeing, not cramming as many rides in as possible.

Same goes for the treehouse. What do ya want there another building or spinning kiddie ride (that's all that would fit there)? It takes up little space, is a nice, cool breather, great ambience with Adventureland, a spectacular view.

COP is great and takes up small space. Its only problem is the last scene, and how we can't jump ahead every decade or else we go from the 40's to 2010 and beyond. What to do?

My suggested fix for CoP:

The last scene takes place Christmas day in an unspecified decade of the future—think "Jetsons"—as the family talks about how far we've come. They can pull up images of technology from the 1960s through 2000s on the video screens embedded in their windows (based on the windows in "Iron Man"). To replace the burnt Turkey gag, something voice activated malfunctions as the family discusses computer processor speeds or something like that. Then they can end with the optimistic "Look how far we've come—can't wait to see where we're going!" feeling.

In other words, make the last scene more like "Horizons" and bridge the gap by taking a quick look back.

CoP isn't going anywhere. and it's a nice ride to just sit and watch...yes modernize the last scene a bit. if you can't enjoy the ride for what it is...consider it a place for a nice, cool nap. it's an oldie but a goodie.

swiss family robinson is terrible. i went when i was in 3rd grade and it was a complete waste of time. i thought i was going to get to play around and climb on stuff but it's just walking stairs...boring. i agree though that not a whole lot could be done with the area. but i'm sure imagineers could think of something better than just walking stairs...
as someone said...Tarzan might brighten it up a bit. it's more modern disney movie themed.

and tom sawyers island should be changed into a PoTc themed Tortuga or something. when i was in 3rd grade i knew who tom sawyer was and still didnt want to go on the island. kids eat up the pirate themed so why not take the pirates out on the island. i'd check it out. maybe hide a piece of gold or something instead of the paint brushes

personally...i'd dump stich first because thats a place that could have decent potential for GOOD E ticket attraction. you can't really squeeze anything where SFT stands.

but as always...my philosophy is...if you don't like it, don't ride it. quit putting down other rides and go ride the ones you love. don't rain on anyone's parade.

I think nostalgia is A reason WDW works. (Especially MK) but it's not THE reason. If Disney World survived ONLY on Nostalgia, it would've died ages ago. That said, I don't see many people all that nostalgic over COP. Otherwise, there would probably be more people riding it. I mean, the one time I rode it, there must've only been 10 people on with us. 20 tops XD

Agreed on the nostalgia part, disagree on COP. You have to admit that is not really fair to judge an attraction's popularity from the one time you went on it.

Granted. I'll never know just how popular it truly is though since I have no desire to ride it again. The Environmental classes I took in College made me WAAAAY to cinical (sp?)
