Disney to buy Marvel Entertainment

Agree, make it so.

But in all honesty, Aland could easily be the best land in MK if they wanted it to be. In my opinion it offers so many more opportunities than the others.

The whole park has so much potential, Adventureland and Tomorrowland in particular. The place could very easily be the best Disneyland in the world. The original is constantly struggling to find space for more and more amazing things, and here we are with almost unlimited room, and the best we do for new stuff in recent years is replace preexisting things like Circle-Vision.

Hopefully the Fantasyland refurb will be a sign of things to come, and I really hope one of the two lands you mentioned follow suit.

Same way I did here. They've been attached to the culture of Disney for a decade and a half, regardless of who used to own what.

But they are an outside company that makes CGI films?? MK has always been Disney only (animation, film, original content). If thats not out of place I dont know what is.

I think MK needs a shake up to get you guys off your high horses. They need to do what they did in Disneyland throw in Roger Rabbit (Amblin), throw in Lucasfilm, throw in marvel, hell throw a Tin Tin (Spielberg/dreamworks) attraction into the MK as well.

I have a book where Tony Baxter describes his vision for Disneyland citing it as "The place where all the greatest stories and legends live" and he even gave an example with lucasfilm saying it was so important that Indy and Star Wars wound up in the Disney parks. It doesnt have to be Disney only. Too bad they lost Potter (at least they gained Marvel to make up)

If they follow your rule for the MK thats how we wind up with stuff like Phillarmagic and Stitch's great escape instead of Indy jones and roger rabbit cartoon spin. It's incestous almost.

We'll just have to see how that turns out first. I can see the wisdom of using Fantasyland to give the Princesses a permanent home, but I can't help but feel a little disappointed at losing Toontown and not seeing it fully develop to rival the ones in Anaheim and Tokyo. It's also a little worrying that there doesn't seem to be a prime locale in this New Fantasyland plan to find a lot of the characters (especially Mickey and his house) like what we have in Toontown now. Does that mean we'll be seeing an increased character presence in inappropriate places like Future World?

I don't think Disney will strongarm them out. From what I got about his post Uni is Uni is looking to end it themselves.

Hmmm, who has been saying that since the deal was announced. Right here . I'll tell you something else. I think Disney would work with Uni and help them transition Marvel Island one ride at a time. First Hulk, then Doom etc. And finally Spiderman last. I even think Disney would offer Imagineering help if it was done in a cooperative spirit. And yes, I am very serious.

Heh. I'll hold my fire until we get a clear idea where this is heading, but I'll just say that's no defense at all in my eyes. If (and it's a big IF now) Disney's idea of "competing" with Universal is taking away guests' choices by forcing them to remove hit rides, then it would be beyond low to me. You compete by making yourself better, not by making the people around you worse.

I'll leave it at that for now.

See post above. Uni can make it easy for themselves or they can make it difficult. That's my opinion anyway. The mouse has the leverage in this one. It's just too ironic.

Never going to happen. From stories I've heard, upper management at Universal does not like Disney at all. It is their biggest competition.

Funny how job security can motivate though. You obviously haven't spent much time in the business world.

I've never said there should be any rule about which characters go where. The post you quoted was actually making the opposite argument, and expressing my delight with the "non-Disney" properties at DL. So you'll pardon me if I don't tackle your rebuttal to a point I never made.

So that what can happen? Disney can put up Spidey and Hulk autograph sessions? People can come on this site and crow about how "their" company "won"? Guests to Universal lose some of their most beloved fun spots?

What is the actual perceived benefit (to real people, not suits) of removing some of the best attractions in Orlando? What will any of us get in return? I'd really be curious what the thinking is here.

Exactly what I was trying to say. People don't know or care who came up with what, Pixar IS Disney to the average movie-goer and park guest. Marvel characters have been in other studios' movies and featured at other theme parks. These two companies and their relationship with Disney are so extremely different. It's not a valid comparison.

'74, agreeing with everything!

My motivation is, honestly.....

Blind crazy fanboyism! Two things that I love more than anything else in the world have came together, and it's got me MEGA-jazzed.

In all honesty, I don't wish for Universal fans to lose their favorite attraction...

I wish for them to lose their whole park!!!

ps : there is quite a bit of kidding and good natured ribbing intended by the above post..lol

Except that DC characters are in Six Flags... People say Universal is Six Flags now.. Imagine if that were to happen???

I've always found that fact very sad. Six Flags just aren't my thing, but pretty much the sole reason I have ever visited ones have been to check out the DC rides, and they were all sore disapointments.

I knew the others were just colored coasters (though I hoped for more detail in the queues than just a few cardboard cutouts), but I had high hopes for a Joker ride I read about on a Six Flags website. I laughed when I saw it, because my only other option was to cry - it was a "Casino" style carnival spinner under a slightly dark (but not really, outside was visible) canopy, walls of which were covered in places with 1,000's of pieces of gum (no lie, it must have been some kind of tradition, because there were litterally covered every inch with gross old gum from what looked like years).

Needless to say, I would adore anyone else getting those characters I love. Universal, Disney, doesn't matter - it may never happen, but I dream of a Spiderman-quality ride with Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.

I can't see Spiderman as a Disney character. I heard from a CM that the only reason Disney did this is because now they can look at Universal's finances. Take that with a grain of salt, but who knows.

So Disney spent $4 billion just so they could see Universal's finances.

Yeah, make that grain of salt a mountain instead, and you'll have yourself a deal.

How about being bold and creating an attraction that is not centered on a movie character. That type of thinking got us Pirates and HM.

I'll put on my flame suit.

Disney and Universal are competitors. Well known fact, google it.

If Disney can strongarm Universal, they win that round of the competition. You and I both know Disney could do more with the characters. Spiderman is good but Universal paints a mound of steel green and purple and calls it a day.
