Dead Flamingos?

A little birdie flew in on Thanksgiving Day and before I could cut its head off, stuff it and toss it in the oven, it told me that Flamingo Crossings (Disney's we want to attract the trailer park crowd who think the All Stars are pricey, well they have a point there but ...) development is on life support as The Mouse can't get the 3rd parties it covets to sign development deals.

Supposedly, no real work has been done beyond removing some old orange groves and moving piles of dirt around. They expect nothing to move forward on what was supposed to be a large development.

Anyone know or hear anything more?

BTW, I hope this is true (as I'm sure ya'll guessed!)

Said birdie also sqawked that Disney is having the same issues with redeveloping PI (the only signed contract is for the South American restaurant) and said that we might want to get used to a food court and some temporary greenery on much of the The Site Formerly Known as Pleasure Island. Oh, and no this does NOT mean the AC will be reopening!

I'm not surprised given a huge mall development out here fell apart due to the recent economy, and another mall just opened but has a handful of empty tenants they didnt secure before construction began.

A lot of those projects got financed back in the 2005-2007 period ... and are being built just to sit mostly empty.

Things are going to get much worse in retail with chains like Linens and Things, Mervyn's and Circuit City either closing entirely or shuttering many locations.

Disney jumped the gun and announced this Western Beltway area project as well as the redevelopment of PI with NO contracts signed with anyone to actually build anything.

Then the hole in the floor opened and swallowed the economy ... I really wonder if anyone will be signing anything in the near future. And I would guess that PI would be a bigger concern to Disney right now since they closed the clubs and now have a huge deadzone sitting between the Marketplace and Westside ... they can sit on the Flamingo Crossing development and just slowly move piles of dirt. PI is a big eyesore just sitting there.

Perhaps any potential new clients are waiting for Disney to announce some new park attractions that will attract customers to their potential new facilities........and waiting........and waiting..........and waiting....

(Dang, there is some funny lines in this thread. At least that is what wdw74's voices tell me)

Frankly, I think WDW dodged a bullet if flamingo crossing is cancelled

They are still working on the site as of yesterday. Work is continuing on installing utilities and grading.

I'd be amazed if they couldnt get third parties to sign into that location. When you have places like Chilis, Hampton Inns, Target, Walmart, Gas Stations etc, still opening new locations, in places with nowhere near the number of people as WDW, it makes me think they would be fightinig over Flamingo. Unless of course the rent is so incredibly high.

Obviously the economy isnt good right now, but these third party companies know that things will pick up, and when they do, they want to be there.
