Your pictures aren't out of focus. When you use a macro for extreme close-ups like that, you only get one plane in focus and the rest will be moderately to very blurry. That's the effect I usually want with those kinds of pictures.

Well....I figured out the smallest range of numbers makes the lens more specialized - been trying to read up - just don't know what to get next. I just have the standard lens that came with the camera.
