Dead Flamingos?

Well, what we're looking at here is essentially Disney building another Crossroads, which means that several years down the line (if it gets built) they'll just sell the whole thing off. So if you want more Crossroads-type areas encroaching on Walt Disney World's borders, then this should be right up your alley.

Eh, who cares?...I would rather them cut venues like this (and the rebuilding of PI for that matter) and keep the parks open late and with a firework show every night.

Cuz Disney's park management sucks so stop being a such a Disney cheerleader and help us put the pressure on the company to remove these people.

I am glad to hear about the difficulties Flamingo Crossing is having. Knowing the management that WDW has these days though, I doubt it will be canceled completely and will probably pick up steam again whenever the economy gets better.

A little birdie flew in on Thanksgiving Day and before I could cut its head off, stuff it and toss it in the oven, it told me that Flamingo Crossings (Disney's we want to attract the trailer park crowd who think the All Stars are pricey, well they have a point there but ...) development is on life support as The Mouse can't get the 3rd parties it covets to sign development deals.

Supposedly, no real work has been done beyond removing some old orange groves and moving piles of dirt around. They expect nothing to move forward on what was supposed to be a large development.

Anyone know or hear anything more?

BTW, I hope this is true (as I'm sure ya'll guessed!)

Said birdie also sqawked that Disney is having the same issues with redeveloping PI (the only signed contract is for the South American restaurant) and said that we might want to get used to a food court and some temporary greenery on much of the The Site Formerly Known as Pleasure Island. Oh, and no this does NOT mean the AC will be reopening!

While the project may indeed be cancelled, you source is obviously misinformed on the level of construction.... a LOT has been.... General clearing happened, re-grading of the entire area.. Installation of drainage (maassive piping and culvert installations) electrical delivery tramission lines landed, retention ponds, etc..

If by 'real work' they mean erecting a building, then no.. none of that.. but the ground is prepped and ready to go.. There are drainage stacks sticking out of the ground, infrastructure for the sprinkler systems is up and running ..

Did I mention the work still being performed on the property as recently at 1:15pm this afternoon?

not saying it won't be cancelled, or hasn't been.. but all evidence on site is that it hasn't been.

no.. because it's called a budget.. Operations doesn't use the same budget as new developements and R&D...

That would be like..... well, Illuminations fire works are over budget.. so we have to run fewer commericals for the parks this month..

Aren't Free Enterprise and Economics required school courses these days? sheez..

Budgets have been around forever. The Walt Disney Company was doing fine until the managment team was controlled by Eisner/Pressler/Harris in the late 90s and then Pressler was switched out for Rasulo who was just as bad. The parks were fine in the 80s and they used BUDGETS back then as well. So its not a question of budgets its a question of leadership and poor strategy.

WDW74 is way out on a limb with his predictions about FC and DTD amoung others. I think we will know more soon.

This is indeed correct. My source only said that Disney was having problems finding people to sign any development agreements ... NOT that infrastructure prep had halted.

Indeed, I would fully expect that work to be done regardless of whether or not contracts are signed if only to prepare it for future use.

You did now. ... I doubt very much Disney would ever issue a statement if/when it is cancelled ... that's not how the Mouse operates. Remember the Bonnet Creek DVC Resort that was announced to the public and designed earlier this decade? The one that is sitting on what will now be the Four Seasons? They even had the entire resort designed, architect picked out and built the entry bridge ... and then killed it all to build Saratoga Springs and then add DVCs at DAK Lodge and Contemporary instead. And we all know about the 'missing half' of POP Century ... Disney never did announce it wasn't being built, did they?

I have no idea what is or isn't happening beyond the fact that thus far Disney apparently hasn't signed any tenants. And the same is true for The Site Formerly Known as Pleasure Island (except for the one dining facility!)
