Are you 23?

This concept was created because the Company has gotten a LOT of flack saying they only cater to the casual tourist and not to the true Disney fans. It came to a head last year when Iger was berated by a Disney fan who said the Company did not care about them. In the past, all Disney "fan clubs" were run externally. In this case, there is a Company-wide initiative with the D-23 event, as its called. It will be a major push and their hope is to really form a relationship with the true Disney fans.

Essentially people will pay about $100 a year to receive some very cool, exclusive merchandise, CDs, DVDs, etc. They will also be invited to a yearly or bi-yearly (to be determined at the moment) event in Anaheim or Orlando (the first event is scheduled to be in Anaheim). Each Company department will be presenting something unique that Disney fans would appreciate (behind-the-scenes looks at theme park technology, a pre-release screening of a new movie, etc). This convention is expected to be huge, with Disney sparing no expense.

They will be announcing this new program in March.

I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth, but if this is true, are you really supposed to tell us 61 days before it's announced?

This may truly be the best fan site ever...1st to know!:sohappy::D

Another thought... Although DS didn't open until 1989, the ground breaking ceremony for the Backlot Tour was on March 27th, 1986, so it could be considered 23 years old. Ironically, that ride just closed for refurbishment. That could be a front for a major re-construction.

Even though I thought this could be some sort of contest, I think this explanation is pretty dead on... I like this idea, if it is true... Heck, I'll shell out the $100 bucks...

If that is the case I'd defiantly invest the $100 +/- if they split the events between Disneyland and Disney World. I've been waiting for an Official fan club from Disney for half my life. The NFFC is nice but in recent years it's become a little to "collectors" top heavy for me.

However, this seems the kind of thing that would be getting a bigger promo for. Of course were still 60+ days out at this point so the promos for this might be waiting in the wings as I type.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

As to the source code of the page, there's no easter eggs to be found in that source code.

I really think the club idea makes the most sense. There's already a club 33 in the parks. If they were to do some sort of elite fan club then naming it club 23 would make sense. Similar in style to the other (secret) club and also the year it all started.

This also sounds like something (as long as its not uber expensive) that I would be extremely interested in being a member of. I'm wishing upon a star.

Theres nothing hidden on the page. Well ... theres one small thing.
d23:teaser

Is hidden on it. So they might be planning on calling it 'D23' or 'Disney23'

I'm trying to track down a list of recently registered domains by Disney. Nothing yet.

Anyone ever take part in the Cloudwalkers viral campaign for the move AI ?

That was a HUGE campagin that was much better than the movie :)

If that does happen, maybe they'll use the space in Fantasyland where the old skyway station is for it...there'd be great views of the park from there...

I didn't mean a physical club location in the magic kingdom like club 33. I meant a virtual internet club, where as others have stated, you'd get special gifts, insider information, and possibly conventions every year.

Sorry! My mistake. :)

A virtual club just seems so not-exclusive, though...but you might be right.

Ok all of you may think I am bonkers but I have a huge hunch!

Song of the South

Here's my reasons why;

1. 23 years ago (1986) Disney released Song of the South for the final time.
2. Walt Disney founded the Walt Disney Co. in 1923 and 23 years later in 1946 he released Song of the South.
3.Tinker bell poofs up on the website which means it must be classic disney.
4.The count down ends March 10 th when Pinocchio comes out and I'm guess if I'm right Song of the South will have a teaser.

I'm saying Song Of the South is coming!

Plus with Oboma taking office it would be a perfect time to release it.

Wow! IF it is Song of the South that would be great! To have that finally released would be wonderful and a great movie to add to any Disney collection.:D:sohappy:

Hmmm. That sounds interesting/promising/plausible. I would love to see an actual release of this vaulted Disney classic. I think it is finally time to silence conspiracy theories about this movie and let a generation of people who can handle it make their own determinations.

Soooo...my question remains, does anyone know of any possible 3rd shift work going on at Splash Mt? I would think that if indeed Song of the South is going to be released now would be an excellent time for Splash to see some plussing and TLC.

For what it is worth, I like the theory about Song of the South being the big 'Are You 23?' secret. However, lets just all keep in mind that no one really knows what is going on and if they do actually know, they are not going to tell us. I doubt anyone high enough in the company to know what is up is willing to risk their job. But I could be wrong. :lookaroun

*waits patiently until March 10th*

See when I look at the font of the website, it looks classic Disney which convinces me more it's a classic disney movie and pretty much all of the major classics have been released except Song of the South.
