Are you 23?

I saw some where else mention that Pixar is now "23"... anyhitng to do with that???

The "blue sky" blogger said its not Pixar related.

Maybe it's the return of VMK...

So what if it has nothing to do with 23? It's still geeky and cool!:D

[/wishfulthinking]:lookaroun

No one cares about VMK.

I really hope that mumbo-jumbo means something to somebody.

Theres nothing hidden in it.

It couldn't mean 1923, because it says "are you 23" not 'since 23' or anything like that.

It has to be a riddle for something that is 23 years old (aka 1986). Most likely though it is directly linked to the day march 10th, because the only other reason they would put that on the poster/riddle is because that is the day they release the secret. But from the way this whole thing looks, it seams like march 10th has significance and that's why they are releasing information/something on this day. I wasn't born yet (1 month and 3 weeks shy), so im not sure what happened 3/10/86 but I can tell you it was a Monday, so if that rings any bells.....

Think of it as a name, not a number. If they were going to name the club '1', because the company had started in 1901, you wouldn't be saying the same thing because you've seen '1' be used in that way already.

Are you '23'?
Do you believe?
Are you a fan?

It makes sense that its some sort of club.

Or whatever movie it is is being released March 10th 2010? It's a Wednesday. If it's a movie coming out 10 March this year, they'd already be advertising it, trailers would be playing in theatres and the web link would be active. If it's a promotion planned to start on March 10th this year, what point would there be in having that date on the poster?

Its a Tuesday

This is a new idea from the Company to cater to high-end Disney fans. It will be a yearly Disney-run ultimate fan convention, which members can attend. In addition, members will receive gifts, exclusive merchandise, etc. Basically, it's the ultimate Disney fan club.

The name derives from the year the Company was founded.

Uhm, right now, I think this is the most plausible idea. trojanjustin, you didn't sound like you were just putting out an idea that you came up with. It sounds like you actually know what's going on based on the confidence with which you posted this.

That, and if I'm to believe your signature, a few years with Disney Parks Strategic Communications and Marketing would probably help. Did you have something to do with this? :lookaroun

What was Disney's 23rd release?

Animated films would be 'The Fox and the Hound'.
They aren't making a big deal out of re-releasing that, thats for sure.

I completely agree, this is what I've gone with.
And if it is true, they can sign me up right now. Don't care what it costs.

The earlier poster who said it was a fan club of some sort sounds plausible. I had also mentioned earlier in this thread "Race to Witch Mountain" which opens in theaters that same week.

Here's some other speculations of a few noteworthy things that have a 1986 connection...
(based on a Disney timeline I found online: http://www.islandnet.com/~kpolsson/disnehis/)

-WED Enterprises became Walt Disney Imagineering in January 1986.

-Shareholders voted to change the company name from Walt Disney Productions to The Walt Disney Company on Feb 6, 1986.

Either of those two could conceivably be it. Both names would be 23 years old...

-The Disney Channel aired a 9-part mini series "Return to Treasure Island"... (Though I think the teaser for that would have been "Arrrrrrrr you 23?") ;)

-The Living Seas opened Jan 15, 1986... But it just got a redo, so I doubt it's this.

-The one item that Spaceship Earth enthusiasts haven't realized in all this discussion: the Walter Cronkite version of Spaceship Earth opened on May 29, 1986. Maybe this is the officially un-official opening date of the now-completey-finished SSE descent with its now-23-year-old "Tomorrow's Child" restored?

-Big Thunder Ranch in Disneyland opened June 27, 1986.

-The Mark V trains went into service on the Disneyland monorail sometime in 1986. Maybe this is their send-off?

-Captain EO premiered in September 1986.

-I know "Great Mouse Detective" was mentioned in the thread, but "Flight of the Navigator" was also released that year.

What about Dancing with the Stars?

It premieres the night before and there should be a show on March 10th. Any 23 is a score you can get. I'm probably wrong, but it hasn't been said yet. So I thought I'd throw it out there for you.

I'm going to feel very let-down if that's the real story behind this poster.

This concept was created because the Company has gotten a LOT of flack saying they only cater to the casual tourist and not to the true Disney fans. It came to a head last year when Iger was berated by a Disney fan who said the Company did not care about them. In the past, all Disney "fan clubs" were run externally. In this case, there is a Company-wide initiative with the D-23 event, as its called. It will be a major push and their hope is to really form a relationship with the true Disney fans.

Essentially people will pay about $100 a year to receive some very cool, exclusive merchandise, CDs, DVDs, etc. They will also be invited to a yearly or bi-yearly (to be determined at the moment) event in Anaheim or Orlando (the first event is scheduled to be in Anaheim). Each Company department will be presenting something unique that Disney fans would appreciate (behind-the-scenes looks at theme park technology, a pre-release screening of a new movie, etc). This convention is expected to be huge, with Disney sparing no expense.

They will be announcing this new program in March.
