Are you 23?

Of course they don't.

Most fanbois are lucky if they can even make it to DL ... I think most would be shocked by the products Disney puts out in Tokyo, Paris and, yes, even Hong Kong.

I understand. I was once one of them.

Then ... way back in 1990 I made my first visit to DL during its amazing 35th Anniversary Celebration ... that started to open my eyes (and in those days, WDW was pretty damn good in every aspect).

~Disney Magic is International~

I plan on visiting all of them someday. I'm really excited about Disneyland, but I've decided to wait until DCA renovations are finished...unless I do the college program there next spring.

To clarify, I never called D23 a failure, just turning into a PR nightmare (even if on a small scale, for now). I respectfully challenge anyone to disagree with that.

I would call it a PR non-event. Which in the world of PR is a failure.

I really did not create all that much neagative PR, it's just that it created almost no PR

Well, there was just no active marketing on anything other than "The View". They should advertise on their channels, plus niche channels such as G4 and BRAVO, just to mention a few.

My unasked for advice: GO ... as soon as you can.

Why wait for DCA's renovations to 'be finished' because they're planned to last 10 years. ... And despite what you may have heard, DCA isn't an awful park by aby stretch. It has a lot of quality attractions and even Disney Details ... it's the whole that doesn't equal the total of its sums.

And California is an amazing place if you've never been ... from the beaches to the deserts to the National Parks ... LA, SF etc ...

GO!

C'mon up! Just try to generate heat while you're here, OK? :lookaroun

Oh, you should know by now that I am one HOT spirit ... wherever I go the heat follows.

(BTW, it was 82 and sunny by the Intracoastal today as I lunched al fresco in Boca Raton ... how about up north of the border?)

I like DCA, I think it's quality, but it certainly doesn't feel like a Disney park when you walk in. It feels really realistic and not really fantastical, but you slowly become immersed in the spirit of California. By far, if you're looking to do "Disney-style" rides, go to Hollywood Pictures Backlot. Otherwise, there are plenty of experiences (although some feel "realistic" and not "extraordinary") to have in DCA.

P.S. Tortilla fans give this park 2 thumbs ^!!!

As for your statememt about the board, I disagree. There's plenty of perspective on this site. You just may not like it. I am in the media/entertainment industry in the REAL world. I know many of the players behind the scenes or folks who do. And that's what I formulate my opinions based on.
I wasn't talking about you. I don't really care who you know or how many names you can drop into a conversation. I don't care who is a nice guy or how many of the exec's cookouts you've been to.

If we are going to discuss something, then we can use facts that either support or deconstruct a position. Wild swings in opinions based on nothing but speculation (not saying that you do this) add nothing of value to the conversation except for derailing it (which admittedly is what we have done here).

I usually can tell when an argument is supported by facts (even if I am not privy to them) or is just an opinion being touted as fact. That's the issue I have.

Someone yelling this is a failure, literally hours after it is launched is the lack of perspective I'm referring to.

With this particular issue, it appears, with the facts I have right now, to be an interesting idea that may grow into something worthwhile, but the entry price may be to steep to warrent consideration at this time. I'll look into more this weekend when I have time and it may change my mind. However, I can also acknowledge that this is just an opinion and I don't know enough to make a judgement or more importantly, defend that judgement to others.

IMO, DCA is alright. There's some great themeing and some not so great themeing (although some of that is being fixed). I'm not a huge fan of the California theme as it doesn't complement DL across the way very well. And judging by the additions, its only going to stray away from that theme more and make the theme even more ambiguous. But that's just me.

It's quite shocking actually, the quality (I've only witnessed from pictures, never been) coming from those places. Having only experienced WDW, I too plan on visiting each and every Disney park someday, it's on my bucket list!

Because Al's reporting of IASW prompted an unprecedented, public response from TWDC.

Al Lutz got similarly big responses from the media with his "Human ashes dumped in Disneyland rides" story that went nationwide, and the big scoops of "they're adding Johnny Depp to Pirates" and the "Pirates Lair on Tom Sawyer Island" exclusives that he had. Disney kept ramping up their responses to him, until they finally seemed to implode when he broke the Small World story last year. It's a funny thing to watch, really.

I can't wait to hear what he has to say on D23, and what his inside sources are saying as well. I assume he'll do a Tuesday update, even though he just had one last week?

What story did he break?

Believe me, I'd go tomorrow if I could. The soonest I could go is next year when I get my new maingate. It's also kind of expensive to get out to CA from New Orleans.

The reason I wanna wait on the renovations is I'd like to see the park without walls everywhere.

I went to CA when I was like 2 or 3. Needless to say, I have no recollection.

Ah ... Lee MacDonald's spokesman is back.

I agree that Tales is the best publication going for fans of TWDC as a whole out there. The E-Ticket is best for DL and its history.

I noticed on LP.com that Lee and Lindsay have been silent on D23, which is telling ... I can't imagine they are happy that Disney is 'borrowing' the idea for the fanzine ... and at the same time they can't come out and say anything negative about it because I think it's very safe to assume they make a whole lot more from Lee's gig working for Disney than from putting out a nice product for fans.

~Nick Franklin reads Tales!~

LOL! If it is a salaried gig I'd take it! I honestly think it is almost flawless as a product. It has a depth to it that I've not come across anywhere else. The E Ticket is equally strong on the DL history stuff as you pointed out - although it can be a bit folksy for my liking.

I had noticed that leemac hadn't commented on D23 on LP - but then he does seem to dip in and out irregularly. I'd be intrigued to hear what he has to say.
