Either that or....

Idol gives back 3!!!!1!1! Start the montage of crying african kids.

But seriously, you're probably right though. I think maybe the lowest vote getter goes home, while the judges choose between the two second lowest vote getters. Or somthing like that.
Not sure if anyone watches So You Think You Can Dance, but it has the same Executive Producer as Idol. They may switch to the same format as that show where the bottom 3 votegetters have a dance-off (in this case a sing-off) and the judges choose from there who goes home.

I like that system and have always wondered why American Idol did not use it. I would love for them to start doing it this way.

Don't like it. Too manipulative. They've already controlled the show (as they always do) to create our favorites for us (Danny, Lil, Michael, Scott). It just seems more over the top this year than past seasons.
I totally agree.

What about that entrance from the judges last night. Talk about an ego trip.

What do you think of the new rule? I wish Simon could tell them every time--NO! Just cut the crap and give it to them straight--it's a vicious industry to be in.

I kind of don't mind the new rule. I think that it will help w/ any "Jennifer Hudson/Chris Daughtry early elimination" scenarios, while not giving the judges TOO much power.

Let's not forget Tamyra Gray from season one. It is not a bad idol. It counters the VFTW. It also doesn't send someone else home that night. Instead no one goes home and those votes are counted with next week. More important, it can only be done one time. They will save this for a while. Any contestant thinking they will be saved last night, is nuts.

I like the new rule, but I think it's idiotic to "poll" the judges with every elimination. I think it should be up to the judges to jump in. The examples they gave were excellent, when Daughtry was eliminated the audience and judges' shock was palpable. If it gets like that again, any judge could jump in and say "let's talk". Doing it with every person gets the puppy-dog look and serves no purpose than to further embarrass the eliminated contestant.
