American Idol: Season 8!

Ok...here it is...place your bets...not a lot of time to do it, so I allowed guesses to come in until tomorrow night...I know that gives a tiny unfair advantage, but since we did this so late in the game, we'll all have the unfair advantage, so it will all be fair.

Plus, we don't exactly know what's going to happen with that 13th person...so this will allow for that too...

Tomorrow night?!
But that means after they've already performed....
And my list is already done.
Oh well...I'm just gonna let it be.

Yeah...I know it's kinda unfair...but unfortunately, since I started it like 1 hour before the actual show, this was the only way to allow people who won't be on in that one hour time frame to get their guesses in.

I would have started it earlier, but thought for some reason Laura would have already done it. :brick:

Well, IMO Lil just blew it. I thought she chose the wrong song and was flat through most of it. There was no life in her performance. Being first in the evening she had to blow it out of there and she barely wheezed...

I dunno, I disagree with that. I thought she did a good job.

Best job tonight: Adam Lambert. I'm not crazy about him, but he did a good job.

I think Anoop really jumped the shark tonite. Looks like the top 13 turned out to be a big mistake. I think Megan is in big trouble too.

Still, most of them were great.

So, the whole "new twist/new format that fans may not like if they're not fans of the judges"....I'm wondering if the judges are going to have the final say on who goes home this time around. Maybe choose from the bottom vote getters :veryconfu

Standouts tonight: Danny and Adam

Not bad: Megan and Scott

The rest were mediocre or outright dull.

I didn't think Anoup was as bad as they made him out to be, but he still wasn't as good as I expected. I didn't think Lil was anything near as good as they gave her credit for.

But then... I'm Canadian, so I don't get a vote!

For me, this was a pretty good show. Nothing fantastic, but not bad either.

Lil' - Above average. Forgettable, but she didn't really miss anything either.

Scott MacIntyre - Good song choice and nice performance

Danny Gokey - Without a doubt he's the class of this season. Head and shoulders above the rest.

Michael Sarver - The roughneck had his best night of the competition.

Jasmine Murray - Better than usual, but it was pretty boring and robotic.

Kris Allen - Did above average as well. Remember The Time didn't go well with a guitar.

Allison Iraheta - Just ok. The lyric chances to be gender appropriate did her no favors.

Anoop Desai - Terrible song choice. He's good, but he's gone.

Jorge Nunez - Better than the judges said. Good, not great.

Megan Corkrey - What in the world was she thinking? I thought it was really bad, but still could make it through. If Idol doesn't work out, she could be a model though.

Adam Lambert - I thought this was the WORST of the night. He's got a good voice and would be good in musical theater, but listening to him sing something rock makes me cringe. Judges went nuts, but I thought it was Sanjaya bad.

Matt Giraud - Easily the second best of the night behind Danny. The best song choice of the night by anyone. Fantastic job!

Alexis Grace - Pretty good. Hopefully the phone number screw up won't hurt her.

Is it 5:00 yet?

I think overall everyone was really good...except for Anoop...Jorge could have picked a better song but his voice was still good. I am interested to know what the big surprise is tomorrow...

Adam definitely benefitted from picking one of the few Michael Jackson songs that's any good - "Black or White". Reasonably good tune, made even better by Slash's cool guitar work on the main riff.

Megan should have picked "Thriller" and done the dance. That would've been fun.

Lil and Alexis have the most talent of the women, are comfortable on stage, and can really sing.

Kara's been a great addition to the judge's table. Her observations are good and her points are clear. They really no longer need the drug-addled nitwit to provide a female point-of-view and have no excuse for keeping her. Seriously, does Paula add anything to the show?

Thank you and thank you. I wish Paula would just shut up, though I'm sure she's great encouragement to the singers when they perform. Kara has been very good.

dxwwf3-your observations are pretty much spot on. I especially agree with you about Adam. Horrible! And DW loved it...thought he was the best!

GenerationX-whole heartedly agree about Kara and Paula. Paula needs to go. Maybe we should get to vote for the judges?

I thought Gokey was the best of the night. He was confident and looked like he was truely having a good time on stage. He was loose and full of energy. However, when I tried voting for him, I could not get through. I'd have about 4 minutes of dead silence, a click, and then a busy signal. I tried for a solid hour after the show, and finally gave up. Hopefully the line was tied up because all of America was voting for him!

I'm thinking that the judges will now have the final decision on who goes home. That they'll choose between America's lowest vote getters.

Either that or....

Idol gives back 3!!!!1!1! Start the montage of crying african kids.

But seriously, you're probably right though. I think maybe the lowest vote getter goes home, while the judges choose between the two second lowest vote getters. Or somthing like that.

Don't like it. Too manipulative. They've already controlled the show (as they always do) to create our favorites for us (Danny, Lil, Michael, Scott). It just seems more over the top this year than past seasons.
