American Idol: Season 7!!

I thought tonight's episode was good, but I have to say that I find it annoying that many of the top 24 (I saw the pics and video online of the top 24 filming their first Ford commercial and read all the bios and such) have previously had recording contracts (some with big labels...several have had professional music videos made for their albums and everything).

What made AI so great was that people like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood could be plucked from small towns and become superstars. I read some articles that said producers were concerned that last season didn't have much talent, so they lessened their standards a bit regarding previous experience. I can see the reasoning in that; however, a lot of the charm of AI is lost for me.

I have no interest in seeing a bunch of has-beens who've had major contracts, but failed, duke it out. The draw for me in the past was seeing people who could pass you on the street or serve you an ice cream cone become a star. Or better still, seeing someone who had raw talent in the early rounds truly blossom and come into his or her own (i.e. Jordin Sparks last season went from being a girl with a pretty voice to someone who could knock me out with her talent..."I Who Have Nothing" still gives me chills).

Anyway, while I will likely continue to watch, I am still disappointed with the direction they're going this season.

I enjoyed tonight's episode. They finally got rid of groups...praise God!! That got way too emotional and annoying.

My only complaint about tonight- they never showed my cowboy!! I saw him in the top 50, but they never showed him singing!

Oh, and I'm trying my hardest not to click on that link with the top 24. I really want to know! But I wanna be surprised tomorrow....

Anyone else tired of seeing that last kid (Josiah) cry all the time?
Yes!!!!! He definitely needs to go - if he can't handle the pressure, he's not Idol material. And it was just plain cocky of him to tell the band to go, considering it was he himself who was not prepared, not them!

OMG, yes! That kid got so annoying.... I'm not really sure why the judges are so in love with him. I have a feeling he'll be in the top 24 (I haven't peeked!), and he'll likely get far due to his getting all the camera time.. :hammer:

I agree about Josiah.
I think he has a good voice and a unique style, but he's getting way too much camera time and he's not coming across very well in the long run.
I think I might enjoy him more, (if he makes the final 24), if I hadn't seen so much of him already.

I really like...
The rocker guy who sang Bohemian Rhapsody.
The 16-year-old cutie (I can't remember names) whom the judges adored...I adored him too.
The Irish girl with the tattooed arm.
Asia'h...the girl who's father died right before her first audition.

There really was a lot of talent up there last night!
I'm sure I'm forgetting some really good ones.

I liked all of the ones you liked, too, Dot! ;) Especially the 16 year old cutie... I hope he does well!

I've been thinking about the whole Josiah thing, and I think they probably gave him all that air time last night to justify not putting him in the final 24. He really crashed and burned last night, and had people not seen that, they would be outraged if he were not chosen.

Just my theory.....

I agree with those two.
I also like the cowboy, the girl who sang Amazing Grace, and another rocker.
I think I'm forgetting a few...

Funny story with Bohemian Rhapsody- My family and I were singing it in a commercial. Then the next person they show is him singing it. Funny coincidence.

Nope.
They're just doing the room where they/we find out the top 24.
