Did anyone else think Simon was going to leap over the table and kill the kid that said AI was phony and rigged?

I have another question. Roughly 25 people get golden tickets at each stop. They apparently go to 7 or 8 cities. So, almost 200 people get golden tickets. What's the next step? How do they pare the contest down to a more reasonable number? Also, for those of you who are long time watchers of the show - if we see the audition wherein a golden ticket is awarded, is that person more likely to get through to the final 20 or 30 or whatever than all the golden ticket people we see at the end of each episode?

Well I do know that they narrow the group down right away to the top 50. I think they leaked the top 50 on the internet somewhere. Then 25, then the top 12. I'm not really sure if those people that we see at the end actually make it further or not..good question...

I know. I don't think I would have wanted to go out that soon after having a baby, especially less then 24 hours. So hopefully there was more time in between.

Actually, this brings up a point I've been a little confused about. At each stop they make it seem like it's a two day thing. Usually, the segue is something like "Well, day 1 was terrible, hopefully day 2 will be better." But, there have been a few things to make it seem like they are in a city for longer. For example, the kid who almost provoked the attack from Simon said that the Idol judges had been saying bad stuff about the talent in Charleston "all week."

That's a good point.

Yeah, I think the fact that that the wife went into labor on "day 1" and she was back with the baby on "Day 2" proves there must be some days in between.

You all bring up good points about it being longer than 2 days. I have another question...Do they listen to every single person in the crowd? That's a lot of people! I can't imagine listening to everyone...I'd go crazy!

They go through screeners first and they send who they want in front of the judges.

Actually, in the past eliminated contestants from the top 24 and 12 have complained that they didn't get enough camera time in the early episodes, so people never "grew attached" to them.

I think it's a valid point. There have definitely been times where I feel like editing and judges' comments are practically ordering me to vote for certain people.

As an aside, the girl near the end last night, with the blue dress and the big belt, who tackled Whitney (terribly) and refused to believe she stunk...well, of course she was from my hometown. She was on the news today singing more and insisting they were wrong. I don't think she was the worst ever, but she wasn't good enough at all (even the woman on the news said so). These people are so deluded.

Really? Who/what are screeners, and how do they decide?
I have a friend who has a son that tried out one time. He said that you are put in a group of 10 people and everyone sings together. Then, they put you in a holding room and someone comes in and tells you that you've moved on or they are not interested and you are sent home. This happens again--10 people sing, you move to a room, yada, yada, yada. He said that you never sing by yourself until you are in front of the judges.

I'm sure much talent is missed with this method, but how else can they do it? It's very hit-and-miss.

Really? I heard that there are 3 of you and each one sings and they only choose 1 of the 3. Maybe after that is when the groups of 10 come together...
I bet the people with the crappy voices think they are great because they made it through with people telling them that they are interested in them and when the judges tell them they aren't good, they don't believe it..:brick:
