American Idol details plus concept art

It's not the opinion--it's the hatred and ill-will in the opinion.

This is a totally different story--and you're right, it does get old. But I see this on every forum I frequent (you'd think because this is WDW-oriented, it would be free of that, but sadly, it is not).

Geez, so much negativity on here. Although AI isn't everybody's cup of tea, you can't deny it's popularity. This show will be fun for the people that enjoy it. If you don't like AI, just pass on it and go to a different attraction you do enjoy. You don't have to experience every single offering.
While this isn't the type of entertainment I like, AI is more "evergreen" than say Hannah Montana or High School Musical. And once AI does lose popularity, the show could change. It's not like AI is original, There have been many talent shows on tv for many years.
I would understand if people were upset if this show would be an addition to the Magic Kingdom park, because it would totally clash with that parks asthetic; But the Studios park is a celebration of entertainment, From classic Hollywood to modern day.
It is nice Disney is showing love to the Studios park recently. The addition of this show and Toy Story Mania will add freshness to a park that has quite a few stale pockets. Keep it up, Disney! A Nightmare Before Christmas E-Ticket would be awesome!! :animwink:

Peace, People!! :)

I wonder if the rules for the constestants will be the same as WWTBAM in that current Disney employees/cast members will be ineligble to audition in the attraction. It would make sense to make things fair.

You're definitely right, and that's why this is up for debate. Even if I presented quantitative evidence that the attractions are less popular than their predecessors, we could argue over if numbers are the only criterion for judging 'success'. I think half the fun here is the debates (when they are truly informed, I agree with you that someone saying "that sucks" without any further articulation as to why it sucks is just wasteful posting...but why not just ignore that?) that are had over rumors and the quality of attractions.
Ahh... but that's not the point you originally attempted to make.

But I can name several attractions that have flopped or had short shelf lives that point to the fact that Disney isn't infallible.

All but one of the attractions you listed are still in operation. IF they were truly "flops" or "short shelf lives" as you stated, they would have been replaced or updated quickly so as to improve the returns on their investment. It's a business, by the way.

The problem with this type of debate is that too many people here interject their personal opinion as fact. Just as you did with your list, they feel that making a list of THEIR PERCEIVED flops, it's a fact that Disney has made some major blunder (sometimes even going so far as saying they are inept).

There are now 3 certain things in life

a-Death

B-Taxes

c- a Disney attraction,Park,Resort,Film,Merchandise that will have someone hate it.

I have been on this site for about 5 years-I can honestly say there has never been ONE Attraction Disney has built that has made EVERYONE happy.

It was also stated in the announcement as part of the deal that current Idol constestants may make appearances in the attraction and Disney and 19 Entertainment/Fremantle Media will collaborate to make AI-themed merchandise. Imagine the possibilities of that :brick:

However, I still find it a bit condescending (and contradictory) for you to go into a diatribe picking apart an opinion and then proceed to lecture on humility. Give me a break...

Except one problem with that statement, the "picking apart" of an opinion was actually meant as a lesson in humility. The poster wanted to try and lend credence to his statement with an appeal from authority as if speaking ex cathedra. Well, whenever a person makes a personal opinion statement, and begins it with "we" he is already showing that he is arrogant, and needs a lesson in humility, thus...

Walt would love American Idol

I agree. The hatred towards this attraction is bizarre. If this was going to the MK I would agree it is an un-Disney concept. But it is going to DHS. DHS should always be a little edgier. It will always have attractions that are geared towards a more mature audience. Yes, people will "win" and people will "lose" :)eek:gasp-someone might lose at a Disney park:eek:)

IT'S PART OF GROWING UP PEOPLE, So grow up!

WDW was never designed to be "Utopialand". Walt would be deeply offended by such an un-Disney way of looking at his legacy IMHO!

Maybe I missed it but where are they supposed to be building this attraction in DHS.
Its going where the ABC Theatre is now. Its the venue that used to host Superstar Television and Doug Live! Its located across from Echo Lake, next to the "should be gutted as well" Sounds Dangerous attraction.

The concern isn't for someone losing. Millionaire had a similar win/lose concept, and that was a lot of fun.

The concern lies in how the individuals participating will take critiques of their talent. Hopefully it will be fine, but unlike Millionaire, this show deals with people's actual abilities and talent, which tends to be much more personal than their knowledge of trivial facts.

I don't doubt Disney has intentions to tone down the critiques as seen in the original show. Hopefully this will be part of the audition process, making sure..how do I say this politely...no "crazies" get on stage in front of an audience of families.

I am also thinking that the auditions will seek to actually weed out those that have no singing voice at all. This would be ironic, concidering it is a large part of the show to allow bad talent through to the judging round. We all have seen American Idol, and we all know that half of the entertainment comes from watching bad performers. Case in point: William Hung. And most of the park guests will have this in mind as well when they see that attraction listed on their guide maps. Disney marketing has to know that people are going to go to this attraction thinking they are going to see some laughable auditions, whether or not it is a part of the program. So if they eliminate the bad singers, then that would be great and less humiliating for everyone. But I have to imagine that many people are going to enter that theater hoping to see the next Willam Hung.

I can envision that the entertainment for this show will derive from the audience "cheering on" the contestants, and from listening to some good voices. A lot of people go through those park gates in a day, there should be a good chance that a handfull of them have some talent. And just as in the millionaire show, it is a lot of fun to see some people actually win.

I'm trying for a more in depth discussion here than just "This sucks" and "aw, what do you know"!

ah ok so to the left of the hat (towards Star Wars).. It looked a little to like the building for The Great Movie Ride and I got scared they were going to get rid of it. It could use some updating but I would be upset if it was gone.

You got me, and I will concede that plenty of others do this, too. I should have chosen my words more carefully.

Something along the lines of: "But I can name several attractions that I believe have flopped or have had short shelf lives that suggest that Disney isn't infallible.

Except one problem with that statement, the "picking apart" of an opinion was actually meant as a lesson in humility. Now, now, we have never met, don't start making rash decisions based on incomplete information.

I only speak for myself, and never in absolutes. I don't pretend to have the voice of the people behind me. I am only a single person...
