I think John Lasseter was on vacation when this thing was approved.

id have to agree.

this is yet another attraction that i will avoid at all costs.

american idol is a perfect example of what is wrong with television these days.

if wdw is dealing with fox now, why couldnt they get the simpsons and universal get stuck with idol?

maybe they can deal for a family guy ride? :D

It's just come to me why I hate this format coming to Disney so much. Disney is about making dreams come true, having fun, seeing people happy and escaping from reality. American Idol is about a wake up call, ruining peoples dreams and forcing them to face reality, being nasty to people. So how does that fit? It doesn't at all, it's totally against what Disney is about. They have picked up this format because it's popular and it's a TV show so fit's the studio idea but that is all they have looked at. They needed to look deeper into why this isn't right to be staged at Disney.
I can see this not being a fun day for many people who choose to take part. With people not being selected when they thought they were good, being losers in the live section of the show, or loosing in the end of day final. Yes they may have not been selected or lost in the live section because they are bad singers but is Disney the place to discover you are not as good as you thought? I don't think so.

By your logic they better stop keeping score on Buzz, get rid of the annual golf tournament, get rid of the video game in Innoventions, get rid of the Disney Marathon, bulldoze all the golf courses, scrap the bowling alley idea and as for Toy Story Mania, they should stop construction.....

Ohhhhh, I almost forgot, the whole Disney's Wide World of Sports will have to be sold off because it hosts sports where people actually keep score and some win and some............lose!

Golf and Wide World of sports are not part of the theme parks and are about sports not Theme Parks. As for the other rides you have mentioned they are for fun no prize at the end no worry if you loose you can play again no one is their saying "You are not good enough to play this game" you are not being singled out in the same way as thousands are playing the same game daily. The Idol attraction will be a few people put up in front of many for possible ridicule.
But then again I could be wrong as you seem to have so much knowledge, in fact you even seem to know that Walt would have liked it! Wow that's amazing you can work out what a guy 50 years dead would have liked today. :hammer:

Why thank you.

(All of WDW is a theme park imo)

Why must the glass be half empty instead of half full? What about the people that do make it to a later round and actually get to live out their dreams of performing? How is that not magical or a dream come true? What makes us think that Disney is going to be making fun of people or crushing their dreams, anyway? Have they ever done that before? I would wager that due to the live nature of the show, only those people with some semblance of talent will be let through - I don't think there will be any William Hungs performing on stage. I'm sure the CMs involved will be well versed in letting people down in a completely non-offensive, empathetic way. Again, despite what some people here seem to think, Disney is not stupid. But maybe I'm wrong and Jay Rasulo and company are sitting around saying things like, "Let's make an attraction where we ridicule and humiliate our guests. I think that's a great idea!"

I think it's a shame that people simply look at American Idol the show and the attraction as simply a win or lose competition. Yes, the audition process (on the show) can be pretty brutal but everyone who goes in there knows what they're up against. Ultimately the show is about giving people a chance that wouldn't have the opportunity otherwise. Win or lose, everyone goes out of it with something.

I'm fairly certain Disney will come up with a way to make the auditions as painless and fair as they could possibly be. And I don't think they're going to advertise this as a "Fastpass to a record contract", so the expectations shouldn't be as high to start with. I think the attraction will try to achieve the same things that the show does.

And let's face it, those who like the show and/or the attraction will return show after show as it will be changing constantly. How many shows currently in WDW can you say that about?

wow, talk about over-reacting, It's not like they are banking on this to be the next big E-ticket, you silly so-called fans are still gonna get your beloved Toy Story Mania. Let all the other people who would actually like this attraction enjoy it, not every fracking addition to the parks have to be some overly epic ride or what-have-you. It's something fun for families who are familiar with the show that they watch and talk about every spring to experience. Get off your silly high horses and just leave them be, American Idol is certainly a better alternative to some childish high school musical show.

A)So-called-fans? Really?

B) the term "fracking" is a no-no. "Goram" or any other Firefly-word would be acceptable.

Perhaps you are over-reacting to some people expressing their opinions.

Also, please tell me where you got "beloved" out of anything posted. Most "silly so-called fans" belabor anything PIXAR.

Certainly NOT gonna question you assessment of HSM except to maybe add the word "cheap".

My only concern is them jumping on the band wagon a little late in the game.

I'm a little late, but I haven't been following the main page as much lately. Me personally, I'm sure this will be popular among some, but I have no intention of stepping foot inside this show. I can't stand American Idol. :brick:

Seriously, i'm doing quite well berating both TSM and Idol at DHS. By god that park wont cease to suck until they bring back Hunchback and install a geosphere!

American Idol is dead. D-E-A-D. It's come and gone, or going. Now I'm going to say something very carefully, and everyone reading this has to listen and pay attention, because I'm not going to respond to any idiotic statements or attacks. Here goes:

We do not necessarily have a problem with the new show. We have a problem with the fact that management let the ABC theatre literally rot away (I had part of my training in there - it was pretty bad) while American Idol was in it's prime, and waited 6 years to go forward with this until American Idol was about as relevant as 'The Osbournes'. It's this exact kind of planning we don't dig. Feed me lines about waiting for legal clearance, blah blah blah, if they really thought it'd be a good idea they'd have found a way to get it done. That's what business is all about; You strike while the iron is hot, not 3 hours after it's been hanging outside of the shop.

The show will not 'flop'. I can only think of one WDW attraction to really flop outright, and I doubt Idol is going to be as bad as JIYI:WF. I doubt it'll even be bad, period. It's going to be really cool, and in it's first few years a lot of people will like it. But if you expect me to swallow the notion that the show will be popular after Idol is no longer being produced, you better pack a lunch, cuz' it ain't happenin'.
That is all.

Quite simply the option probably was not available until recently. Idol is still easily the top rated series on TV and although nothing in this world lasts forever you can bet it still has plenty of life left. Afterall, WWTBAM is still taping and in syndication. It's a great idea for a theater that can and will change as tastes change. And afterall, if there is a park rooted in pop culture it is DHS so flexibility will always have to be built into the formula of new attractions. Have a synergistic day.
