A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes: A March 2011 Disney Wedding/Honeymoon Trip Report

It’s official! Brett and I are finally married and I couldn’t be more excited. We had the most perfect wedding day ever, at our most favorite place in the whole entire world. And of course, as expected, it went by all too quickly. I’m not going to lie, coming down off the high that was our Disney wedding/cruise/honeymoon has been tough. In fact, I'm hoping that writing up/posting this trip report will help me work through some of that. However, I’ve spent much of my spare time in the last few weeks staring at a blank word document... writer’s block? Never heard of it!

For the first time ever, in all my trip report writing, I did a pre-trip report. It lays out most of the wedding-related details, but for those of you out there who are like me and rarely read pre-trip reports, here’s a quick rundown of events:

Wednesday, March 16, 2011: Drive down, check in offsite for the night
Thursday, March 17, 2011: Check-in, Disney’s Polynesian Resort
Friday, March 18, 2011: Wedding Day, Sunset Pointe
Sunday, March 20, 2011: Board Disney Dream for a 4 night Bahamas cruise
Thursday, March 24, 2011: Check-in, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
Sunday, March 27, 2011: Check out and head home

We kind of saw this trip as having three legs: Wedding/Cruise/Disney!

A look back at our Disney trip reports: September 2008 (Contemporary), December 2008 (Old Key West), January 2009 (Port Orleans Riverside & Disney Marathon), July 2009 (Wilderness Lodge Villas/Animal Kingdom Lodge), December 2009 (Beach Club Villas), March 2010 (Pop Century & Princess Half), June 2010 (Coronado Springs), August 2010 (Polynesian & Engagement), December 2010 (Kidani Village)

This was our first time on DCL, however, we’ve cruised a handful of times before. So if anyone is interested, those trip reports can be found here: May 2009 (Carnival Liberty), December 2009 (Royal Caribbean Monarch of the Seas), May 2010 (Emerald Princess), June 2010 (Norwegian Sky)

Oh dear. I feel like I’m embarking on what will be the longest trip report EVER (and I’ve written some long ones). My apologies in advance, as it will likely take awhile to get this report up in its entirety. The good news though, is that I’ve completed the text all the way up through the wedding, so we’ll get to that part fairly quickly!

With all that said, let the memories begin...

I’m not sure why, but this is one of my favorites from the trip!

While we were “self-portraiting” Louie started waving to us from his post up in the trees on the other side of the pathway. His character attendant motioned for us to c’mon up. With no time to change lenses, I told the CM to get really, really close to us to take the picture. She didn’t seem to understand and we ended up with a couple of shots of us from really far away. Louie wanted us to put our hands upon his paw to show off our rings… it was all a ruse though, to get my diamonds. Looks like he was stealing a page from Prince John’s book. :king:

From Africa, it appears that we made our way back to Discovery Island via the bridge by ITTBAB.

IMG_4632.jpg

Time to find Eeyore! I adore Eeyore, with all my woeful loving heart. As I’m typing this, it just hit me… the whole reason we decided on the Animal Kingdom that morning is because we hadn’t met Eeyore yet during the trip and it was the one place we were sure we could catch him. Earlier in the trip he had eluded us at the Studios when his house of sticks blew down. :( And with how long things were taking at the Crystal Palace, we didn’t get to meet him there either. So… onward to find Eeyore, we went!

It was funny because as we were exiting the ride, a CM came over and asked if we’d like for her to take our picture because she had noticed how many times we were trying to take one of ourselves.

We wandered through Asia on our way back to Africa. Your guess is as good as mine as to whether or not we rode Everest while we were there. I’m guessing we probably did.

IMG_4667.jpg

IMG_4668.jpg

Back in Africa we hopped in the fastpass line for our two week safari. This is one of those rides (akin to BTMRR) that I find unbearable to wait in without a fastpass.

IMG_4674.jpg

I had a wide angle lens on, so I couldn’t get up close shots of the pathways of the trek, but you can kinda see it in some of these shots.

IMG_4683.jpg

Looks like this is where lunch is served:

IMG_4698.jpg

Yep, that’s all I’ve got for the safari – not one single animal shot. Either there weren’t any animals out, or I chose to focus only on the elements they’ve included for the trek. I do have a nice shot of the cold drinks at the exit of the ride. I’ll take an ice cold coke, please!

Next, we found out just how tough it is to be a bug. And more importantly, just how tough it is to be a child finding out how tough it is to be a bug. :lookaroun

IMG_4714.jpg

After that, we bid adieu to the Animal Kingdom. We weren’t sure exactly what we wanted for lunch, but we were certain it wasn’t at the AK, so we said goodbye to our last park of the trip around 11:30 am and made our way to the car out in the parking lot.

IMG_4707.jpg

After some discussion… we decided upon Beaches & Cream. Such a great lunch choice. Although, I remember sitting at the umbrellas waiting for a table and noticing all the folks who had just checked in to the resort for their stay. If only.

IMG_4720.jpg

IMG_4722.jpg

Beaches & Cream was delicious, but not as delicious as it would’ve been had we just checked in to the resort, if you know what I mean.

After lunch we made our way back to the Wilderness Lodge to pick up our stuff, and then there was one last stop before we hit the road and headed home… the Polynesian. I just felt that we needed to end our trip there, on the Pointe, where it began.

It was also about this time when Brett and I started religiously checking Jason’s blog. Of course, it was too soon for our wedding to be blogged, but we couldn’t help ourselves. Would you believe though, that he had us blogged by the end of the next week? Only two weeks after our wedding day. Not only that, he had the whole gallery up for us at that time, too. Talk about crazy, quick service!

IMG_4740.jpg

By the time we got all the way out onto the Pointe I was crying. I think it was from an overwhelming sense of satisfaction with our new life together more than anything else. We took off our “Just Married” buttons while we were out there; it was like a rite of passage or something, knowing that we’ll never put them back on again.

IMG_4745.jpg

That's it. The very last picture on this "roll" of film. And what a beautiful one it is. :D

Fun facts: this trip report is made up of 121 full pages of text in a Microsoft word document at 11pt font with the margins set to .5 all the way around. And there are, officially, 1,443 photos included! Insane.

It took about six weeks for me to start this report, after returning from our wedding/Disneymoon trip. And at that time, when I was putting the first post up, I was still very much consumed with our wedding in every way imaginable. And I was entirely too hung up on a few very minor details. In fact, I vividly recall sitting by myself in a hotel room (on a work-related trip) in late April, quietly crying as I searched for the right words to describe my feelings. That’s where you come in. Over time, through writing and sharing and hearing some of your stories, this report became more than just a report for me. It has been somewhat of a bridge from the post-wedding hangover to the wonderful married life that we’ve settled into now - I feel so incredibly lucky to have all of you to share our love of Disney with. I’ve been completely blown away by the support and well wishes that we have received (not to mention the patience you have shown in sticking it out with me :animwink:). And I’m absolutely flabbergasted that this report has exceeded 100,000 views.

Instead of a long drawn out recap of the trip, I’ll just include one last thing… a slideshow I put together of our wedding day. It was our dream wedding, our very own fairytale come true. And we couldn’t have asked for more.

THE END. Or shall I say… THE BEGINNING!

Thank you for sharing all of this with us. I enjoyed every lunch break and late night it took me to read it all.

I would also like to thank you for cheering me up tonight. It's been a rough past few days, but seeing your slideshow made me smile. It also made me cry a few happy tears. It's amazing to me how much I feel like I know you after reading your trip reports. To me it wasn't just reading about someone's wedding, it was reading about a friend's wedding. A Disney Friend, to boot. LOL.

I really LOVE that you ended your slideshow with your mirror shot. I can't think of any better way for you to have ended it.

Congrats again and I'm sure all your Dreams and Wishes will come true.

Aww, thank you Jessica. I’m so glad you felt as if you were a guest of our wedding. In fact, a while back I was telling my mom that it was so exciting to have WDWmagic and a place to post about our wedding. As much as I wanted (and am incredibly happy with the fact) that we had a super intimate wedding, sharing it here has kinda been my way of having a “big” wedding.

I hope the next couple weeks are better and just think, with a Disney trip around the corner, the days are bound to become a little less rough!

What a wonderful journey!

From the bottom of my heart I wish you both so many years of happiness together. Welcome to married life, my friend...it only gets better from here!

Thank you, Erin. I feel like we’ve really become friends over the course of this report!

Thanks, Shelley! I was really happy with how the slideshow turned out. It’s the first time I’ve ever made one. I may go back and do a few from past trips (as if I need another thing on my to-do list!).

Better Together is one of “our” songs. And it was fun to use it here because I knew we couldn’t use it for our first dance. Thank you for coming along with us, Shannon!

One hand typing...the other with the Kleenex...You had to go back to Sunset Point, didn't ya? That was the sweetest.

That slide show was just beautiful. Beautiful i tell you!! Thank you for sharing that and your special day with us! :)

Will this be a trip for the whole family? Or one of your fabulous girls trips?! Either way, that's super exciting.

Speaking of manual... I jumped in head first on our May trip and haven't looked back since. I LOVE it. Granted, sometimes it takes multiple attempts, but at least I'm learning!

This trip is the whole family! My parents, sister's family, and some friends. We have two two bedroom villas. 3 weeks from tomorrow!!:sohappy:

I'm so glad you jumped in! It's worth it! You'll get faster too! :)
