A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes: A March 2011 Disney Wedding/Honeymoon Trip Report

It’s official! Brett and I are finally married and I couldn’t be more excited. We had the most perfect wedding day ever, at our most favorite place in the whole entire world. And of course, as expected, it went by all too quickly. I’m not going to lie, coming down off the high that was our Disney wedding/cruise/honeymoon has been tough. In fact, I'm hoping that writing up/posting this trip report will help me work through some of that. However, I’ve spent much of my spare time in the last few weeks staring at a blank word document... writer’s block? Never heard of it!

For the first time ever, in all my trip report writing, I did a pre-trip report. It lays out most of the wedding-related details, but for those of you out there who are like me and rarely read pre-trip reports, here’s a quick rundown of events:

Wednesday, March 16, 2011: Drive down, check in offsite for the night
Thursday, March 17, 2011: Check-in, Disney’s Polynesian Resort
Friday, March 18, 2011: Wedding Day, Sunset Pointe
Sunday, March 20, 2011: Board Disney Dream for a 4 night Bahamas cruise
Thursday, March 24, 2011: Check-in, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
Sunday, March 27, 2011: Check out and head home

We kind of saw this trip as having three legs: Wedding/Cruise/Disney!

A look back at our Disney trip reports: September 2008 (Contemporary), December 2008 (Old Key West), January 2009 (Port Orleans Riverside & Disney Marathon), July 2009 (Wilderness Lodge Villas/Animal Kingdom Lodge), December 2009 (Beach Club Villas), March 2010 (Pop Century & Princess Half), June 2010 (Coronado Springs), August 2010 (Polynesian & Engagement), December 2010 (Kidani Village)

This was our first time on DCL, however, we’ve cruised a handful of times before. So if anyone is interested, those trip reports can be found here: May 2009 (Carnival Liberty), December 2009 (Royal Caribbean Monarch of the Seas), May 2010 (Emerald Princess), June 2010 (Norwegian Sky)

Oh dear. I feel like I’m embarking on what will be the longest trip report EVER (and I’ve written some long ones). My apologies in advance, as it will likely take awhile to get this report up in its entirety. The good news though, is that I’ve completed the text all the way up through the wedding, so we’ll get to that part fairly quickly!

With all that said, let the memories begin...

Such a beautiful end to a truly amazing report!!

You really are lucky to have found someone who shares that Disney love. I just started seeing someone and one of my first questions was "Have you ever been to Disney?" and he replied "yeah, 3 times when I was younger." He enjoyed it, but he's definitely not that into it. If things keep progressing with us I MIGHT have to transfor him into a Disney lover as Brett did to you!

Congrats Holly and Brett and may you have many many years of love, happiness and Disney memories!! :)

You’re really getting some miles out of those annual passes this year, Erin! Yay for being back in the Magic Kingdom again. :sohappy: Will we be getting another fabulous trip report?!

Okay so, the bride and groom in the MK? With just a photopass photographer? Something sounds out of place with that. You’re right about not being able to take your own photographer into the parks (this is why we asked our planner if we could take pictures *in front* of the MK… and we weren’t even sure that would fly). There are some very strict rules about bridal attire and the parks. You must have an event guide, and a whole host of other things working in your favor (including some green $$). Plus, I’m fairly certain Disney Event Photography handles all of that, not photopass. Now, you’ve got me super curious about how they managed to swing such a thing. Hmmm…

I feel the same way about Basin! Isn’t it funny though, how we (the collective wdwmagic community) think of one another in different places, and such?! I really do feel like I know so many of you.

Thank you again for coming along with us on the journey… and don’t worry, I’ve already forgiven you for wearing your t-shirt and sweats to the ceremony.

Well, I was all by myself with the kids and to be honest, it was my daughter who spotted the 'princess' not me, so I wasn't able to really take it all in, and (gasp!) I didn't even take a camera in the parks this time, :D so I have no documentation of the whole trip other than my phone camera, BUT here's what I saw.
The bride and groom were walking up from the Rose Garden, there was one Photopass Photographer behind them. They crossed over the path (the one that leads to the Teacups) and the Photopass Photographer who was behind them headed off toward Main Street (at that point I assumed he was just a photographer they pulled off of Main Street to take their picture in the Rose Garden.) They walked over to the little 'alcove' area to have their picture taken with the Castle behind them (do you know the one I'm talking about - the one next to the Mikey and Minnie topiaries?) They just stood in line like all the other guests and used the Photopass Photographer who was already standing there taking guests pictures.

That's why I just assumed they had come in by themselves? I didn't see anyone with them. That's not to say they didn't have their 'escort' with them and she/ he was still hanging out in the Rose Garden and/ or he/she just wasn't in my line of vision. It was full on wedding attire that's for sure. She didn't have a small dress - it was 'ballgown or go home' big.

Hmmmm...... curiouser and curiouser. I must have missed something, but I clearly remember thinking 2 things - #1 - How did she fit that dress through the turnstiles? Someone must have let her in through the stroller entrance. and #2 - If they could take pictures, I wonder why Brett and Holly couldn't?

PS - Thanks for forgiving me! I DID change for the reception *so embarasssing* LOL

for so long i wanted you to finish posting your trip report and now that it's over, i am just sad. AMAZING trip report!! it was worth the long wait to read. :D just like many other posters, i feel like i know you and brett. every so often i mention something about your wedding or honeymoon in wdw to my fiancé and i have to say "you know, the people from my forum" i am so happy for you and brett!

i disagree with you though about not being a good couple to be on the amazing race. just reading through all of these comments on here should prove to you that you know how to captivate an audience.

congrats again to the happy couple!! i can't wait to read more trip reports and i understand we should be expecting quite a few already! :D

Thanks, Darolyn. I feel pretty lucky every single day. You can totally turn him into a Disney lover. Just plan a trip. And plan it around anything and everything that you think might be up his alley. And make sure to incorporate some of the more romantic aspects of Disney. He'll have trouble keeping his lovey feelings for you separate from his thoughts on Disney... it'll all blend together. :lookaroun :animwink: Seriously. This approach worked for Brett.

WOW! I'm shocked by that... I'm guessing they somehow slipped through security. So my next question was going to be about the "officialness" of their wedding attire, but you've definitely already addressed that one. Even in the CMs at the front didn't know any better, I would've thought someone would've stopped them before they made it all the way to the castle.

I could be wrong, because I didn't spend a lot of time researching this, but the only time brides and grooms are allowed in the MK for pictures is early in the morning before park opening (and it costs a pretty penny). The only other way I thought you could get into the MK in wedding attire is if you're willing to pay for one of those extreme Disney couture weddings (and even then it's late at night or early in the morning).

Uh-oh! No pictures, probably means no trip report... maybe next time, hmm?!! :)

Thanks, Ashley! I do the same thing with "people from my forum!" Your wedding is approaching rather quickly! I hope you have the most amazing day, and I'll be looking forward to your Disney Dream report (with hopefully a few wedding pictures for good measure, of course!).

I think that may be why we stopped watching the Amazing Race, the producers seem to think the yellers/screamers are the only ones who can captivate an audience, whether it's the truth or not.

I just started the text for my next trip this morning... although, I think I'm going to wait until the whole thing is ready before I start posting even the first word of it. This will ensure speedier delivery.

Hah! Yeah, that's kinda what I was thinking... a throwback to the reason for the whole report to begin with, because it's been so long and I wouldn't be surprised if people had forgotten. Ears? Years? Both sound good to me!

Thank you, Melanee!

Thanks, Jess. Oddly enough, that last shot of the button with the palm trees of Sunset Pointe in the background is one of my very favorites. I LOVED those buttons. :D

It appears that lots of people are going to be around that weekend. If you see two people hobbling around… that’s probably us. Although, we’re already doing much better in terms of training for this one than our last couple, so we’ll see. :lookaround:

Just a perfect ending to an amazing trip :)

I'm sure both of you will do great! :)

Best trip report yet! I laughed, I cried...a lot. Loved it all. So happy for you 2. Really loved the slideshow - love me some jack johnson! Just overall a fantastic trip. You guys look like you just have so much fun together. Really shows the love you 2 have for one another and Disney. Amazing! Hopefully one day we'll have trips down there at the same time!

Thanks, Tammy!! I love that you are able to do so many trips like that with the whole family - it's just so exciting. We can never get my brother and his family on board for anything it seems.

While I'm loving manual... I'm getting the itch for a new camera now. :lookaroun The one I have is starting to feel very limiting.

That is exactly what happens when you start using manual.

Unfortunately it never ends. I am so so ready to upgrade again.

Yay! :sohappy: I will echo everyone's sentiments that this was a wonderful trip report and I wish you and Brett all the best in the future! You guys accomplished so much during your honeymoon - it seems like you hit all the WDW highlights. We've all enjoyed reading about it, but I think it will also be great to look back and reread about your entire wedding and honeymoon. How many people have such a detailed account to remember it by?

Anyway, it sounds like you've had a few trips since then?.... :lookaroun So there are some more TRs coming??...

Congrats you two!!!

BRAVO!! the slideshow was such the perfect finale to an absolutely amazing wedding/disneymoon report - thank you so much for sharing!!

Thank you! I was really happy with how it turned out.

Just a perfect ending to an amazing trip

I'm sure both of you will do great!

I have no doubt we'll survive... but I actually have goals (more than just, you know, finishing) this time around. :lookaroun I think I'll be more nervous for this one than the ones we didn't exactly train for.

I heart Jack... school girl crush and all! Aww, I'm glad the love shows through - we really do have so much fun together. Looks like we're going to miss each other again for Food and Wine... one day though!

Thinking full frame?!?! :animwink:

I can't decide between glass or a new body on my next purchase. ISO 1600 is absolutely killing me though.

The BEGINNING of beautiful, wonderful memories. Your slideshow has me misty eyed. Thank You for sharing your special day.

Yes! The beginning is right! Thank you so much.

Thanks, Sara! And thanks for joining in and "stalking" my report. :D I feel like I've gotten to know you better as a result.

Thank you, Ashley! I'm really glad we combo-ed the cruise with WDW. We got to experience something new, while also getting to do all those things we know we already love.

More trip reports are definitely coming, although, they're going to be a little more of the abbreviated variety. I'm sure it'll never happen but I'd like to get all three of them up before our next trip (two months away). One thing on my side though, is they were all short trips, three days apiece, so we'll see. :D

Full frame is absolutely what I'm thinking! :) The 50D doesn't handle noise nearly as well as I was hoping. I've heard the 60D handles it much better, but I'm skipping that and the 7D and going for full frame as soon as I can.
