A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes: A March 2011 Disney Wedding/Honeymoon Trip Report

It’s official! Brett and I are finally married and I couldn’t be more excited. We had the most perfect wedding day ever, at our most favorite place in the whole entire world. And of course, as expected, it went by all too quickly. I’m not going to lie, coming down off the high that was our Disney wedding/cruise/honeymoon has been tough. In fact, I'm hoping that writing up/posting this trip report will help me work through some of that. However, I’ve spent much of my spare time in the last few weeks staring at a blank word document... writer’s block? Never heard of it!

For the first time ever, in all my trip report writing, I did a pre-trip report. It lays out most of the wedding-related details, but for those of you out there who are like me and rarely read pre-trip reports, here’s a quick rundown of events:

Wednesday, March 16, 2011: Drive down, check in offsite for the night
Thursday, March 17, 2011: Check-in, Disney’s Polynesian Resort
Friday, March 18, 2011: Wedding Day, Sunset Pointe
Sunday, March 20, 2011: Board Disney Dream for a 4 night Bahamas cruise
Thursday, March 24, 2011: Check-in, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
Sunday, March 27, 2011: Check out and head home

We kind of saw this trip as having three legs: Wedding/Cruise/Disney!

A look back at our Disney trip reports: September 2008 (Contemporary), December 2008 (Old Key West), January 2009 (Port Orleans Riverside & Disney Marathon), July 2009 (Wilderness Lodge Villas/Animal Kingdom Lodge), December 2009 (Beach Club Villas), March 2010 (Pop Century & Princess Half), June 2010 (Coronado Springs), August 2010 (Polynesian & Engagement), December 2010 (Kidani Village)

This was our first time on DCL, however, we’ve cruised a handful of times before. So if anyone is interested, those trip reports can be found here: May 2009 (Carnival Liberty), December 2009 (Royal Caribbean Monarch of the Seas), May 2010 (Emerald Princess), June 2010 (Norwegian Sky)

Oh dear. I feel like I’m embarking on what will be the longest trip report EVER (and I’ve written some long ones). My apologies in advance, as it will likely take awhile to get this report up in its entirety. The good news though, is that I’ve completed the text all the way up through the wedding, so we’ll get to that part fairly quickly!

With all that said, let the memories begin...

"Yooohooo, Danny, I know those searaycers are tempting, but the ceremony is over here!"

Clearly he was checking me and my searaycer out.. which brings me to:

...and out of the corner of my eye at one point I noticed that there was an inordinately large number of searaycers on the water. Honestly, I think they may have been parked. Like they were at the drive-in! Kenzie? Kelly? Nicole? Were you out there, ladies?!?

You caught me.. I was camped out, snappin pix - unfortunately, I dropped my camera into the Lagoon. I know, right? I didn't want to tell you in case you got really excited/dependent on the pictures from my point of view.. And here I am, caught red handed and obviously in trouble for distracting your bro in law with my beauty and my searaycer..

PS: You're gorgeous, and you guys are the best couple, and the leis are beautiful.
Sorry again ;)

What they call the "Cake and Champagne Celebration..."

First there were hugs…

03HPBHW-263_edit.jpg

And then Kevin asked for witnesses to sign the marriage license almost immediately. We had our moms sign it.

Brett’s face cracks me up in this picture… anyone want to take a stab at captioning it?! :lookaroun

And with that, Kevin disappeared. Seriously, he blew that popsicle stand so darn fast. I was expecting it though because during the extensive vendor research I had done, more than one person mentioned how it upset them that he left so quickly. Personally, this didn’t bother me at all. There was really no reason for him to stay. Overall, I guess I'd say I was pleased with him… mostly because he allowed us to add our own special touches to the ceremony and he stuck to the script like I asked him to. It’s good for him that sticking to the script was much more important to me than what he wore. I would probably recommend him to someone else… with the caveat that they call and confirm EVERYTHING with him a day or two out from the wedding just to ensure they get what they asked for. I didn’t do this; I guess I just assumed that when we discussed things via email, it was a confirmation of what would take place. In the end, I just think he needs to be a bit more conscientious in dealing with his clients.

Wow! I don't even know what to say.
BEAUTIFUL! all of it!! you, the ceremony, your family, your hubby, the day, the location, the dress, the hair, the make up...
It's lovely!
I'm not yet married, so I can't even imagine the pressure and stress you put on yourself (I don't even want to think about how crazy I'm going to be..) but I've had some events in my life that I look back on and get a smidge grumps about things that didn't go perfectly. Don't let any of those little 'regrets' detract from how truly amazing the day was and how happy you are to be spending your life with the person you love! Eventually, you'll just remember the awesome things about the day, and forget the little things that are bugging you now!

Can't wait to read more!!

Alrighty then… time for cake!!! My second meal of the day for anyone keeping a tally.

Honestly, I knew with 100% certainty that Brett and I neither one would smash the cake in the other ones face. You know all those pictures you see of kids with food all over their faces? And people are always commenting on how adorable it is? Well, I don’t care what other people say… it is so not cute. Like, not at all. :ROFLOL: Just thinking about pictures like that makes me shudder. Brett shares this pet peeve of mine so we were definitely on the same page with regards to feeding one another cake. Clean and simple, people, let’s keep it classy!

Thanks for including all these beautiful pictures of the ceremony. It is really like being right there. I was so excited when I saw that you had started the trip report, it was about time. LOL.

The fireworks going off right before you walked down the aisle! Who could ask for more pixie dust than that? Something extra special the two of you will have to share with each other. Did he notice them also?

You looked absolutely beautiful in your dress. I don't think you could have matched your dress and location any better than you did.

Can't wait to hear more!

After the cake, came the champagne. Mmmmm… Fairy Tale Cuvee, I think I like you! Tasty! Two bottles of champagne came with the package and I asked (ahead of time) that only one bottle be opened for this part of the day since there were only seven of us. We saved the other bottle for the limo later that night. This was a great decision.

OMG here I go again, Holly you make me seriously want to get married all over again. Do you think I could convince the hubs? Because right now, I really want to.

And yes I am tearing up once again.

I thought it couldn't get better but it did. Your ceremony was gorgeous. And the vows were beautiful.

Its funny, I am in a wedding in a few weeks and she is sitting here talking about how many people aren't coming. But you know what? I am sitting here looking at yet more incredible photos and I am looking at the closeness of everyone. And I am thinking. There that is what matters. They are what matters. I don't think people realize sometimes just how special that intimate ceremonies are. I love it.

I loved how you walked down the asile to a Dream is a Wish...how fitting is that. And to be getting married with space mountain in the background....yeah that is amazing in itself.

You guys just look so darn happy....I will have to try to come up with a caption but Bretts face is classic.

Okay. I am pretty sure I'm going to forget everything I want to say, but I'll take a shot.

So...

First off, you looked completely stunning. The hair, the make-up, everything...perfect.

I totally know what you mean about wearing your hair up for the day...ultimately that is what I decided to do as well. One less thing to worry about.

The charms and handkerchief were awesome...like everyone else, I teared up a bit when at that part.

I LOVED Brett's guest post! Nice to know what the boys were up to.

I can relate with having some...I don't know, regrets?...after the wedding. We've been married almost 2 years and I keep going back over it in my mind and thinking about what I would change...but more than that I do remember everything that went right during the day. Hopefully you will, too.

I love your commentary on the ceremony..."Hello, Space Mountain!" and "Mr. and Mrs. Hollybelle." I lol'd.

The leis are awesome...great job to you and your mom!

The cake is so pretty...love the purple ribbon and the cake topper.

So Kevin...hmm. Way to be prepared. I think you went with the flow much better than I would have. I think he needs to work on his people skills!

Ugh, I'm sure I left out so much...I'm so glad you two got the ceremony of your dreams, even if everything wasn't completely perfect. It seems like it was pretty freakin' close!

Next, it was time for our “first dance.” But before that we had to bustle my dress. I assure you, on more than one occasion, mom had managed to bustle my dress just fine, but for some reason Karen felt the need to stick around and supervise. It kinda sucks because I would, obviously, like for it to just be my mom and I in this picture. Notice though, at that moment in time, I had not a care in the world. I was just enjoying my champagne… and my man!

For our first dance we chose “Part of Your World” from the Little Mermaid. It was Brett’s suggestion. It’s part of my favorite scene from one of my favorite attractions, Philharmagic! And the instrumental version makes me melt. Most importantly though, swaying along to the violin, and staring into Brett’s eyes, simply made me feel complete. We were married. It was that first little moment of quiet recognition for me.

After this, my dad and I danced to “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from the Lion King. It’s another song that I think sounds beautiful on the violin. Plus, my mom loves it, so it was a nice tie-in with her as well. Without fail, my emotions got the best of me again with my dad. He had me more than just a little choked up when he mentioned what an honor it was to have Brett in our family and how lucky we were to have found one another.

03HPBHW-344.jpg

Brett and Kathy danced to “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from Toy Story. A perfect choice, I think.

03HPBHW-359_edit.jpg

Next… we actually ate the cake. It wasn’t until writing this that I realized we didn’t all eat a piece of cake after we cut it. :lookaroun I guess they were divvying it up onto plates during our toast and dances.

03HPBHW-367.jpg

03HPBHW-368.jpg

There were a couple of tables and chairs out, but mostly we just stood around them - it was much easier for me to stand than sit!

03HPBHW-365.jpg

After we ate, Karen told me they were boxing up the cake and we needed to take it with us. I think it was her kind way of saying, “We’re done here.” Thoughts on Karen... LOVED her. I know I keep saying she needs to get out of the shot, but that is no reflection on how I feel about her. She was absolutely incredible to work with leading up to the ceremony, always responding to my emails within 24 hours of my writing them, and taking the time to get involved and make things happen when the florist was dragging her feet. She was a professional, plain and simple. I know it's her job, but to me I really felt like she cared about us and our ceremony. Someone could learn a few things, hmm. :lookaroun

Derek kindly volunteered to carry the cake to the room for us as soon as we were done taking all the family shots. To be perfectly honest, with the escape wedding format, it did feel a little like we were being shepherded from one little moment to the next. I expected this, so I wasn’t put out by it by any means, but it’s worth noting for future escape brides. I knew it would all happen in a matter of 30 minutes or so, and I was fine with that because we had picture-taking plans anyway!

So, the family shots... I’m not a fan. But I’m really not all too tore up by this because these posed shots aren’t ones we’d ever hang on the wall anyway. In fairness to Jason, who was great, with the bright afternoon sun there was really no way to make this work. He did everything he possibly could, kept strategically placing us with the sun to the back of us as much as possible, but it just wasn’t happening. It doesn’t help I’m one of those people whose eyes are super sensitive to light. I knew this would probably be an issue with the ceremony pictures, but I didn’t realize how persistent it would be throughout all our pictures that afternoon. Unfortunately, there are next to no pictures of us actually looking at the camera (no good ones anyway ) while we were outside. Again, I realize this has everything to do with the sunlight and time of day. When we chose to have our ceremony at 2:30pm in the afternoon, I knew I was making this sacrifice. And NEVER (never, ever) in a million years would I have exchanged the day we had for one less sunny.

03HPBHW-383.jpg

That's it for tonight... tomorrow though, it's Bride and Groom portraits, which pretty much means there's a heck of a lot more of us coming your way.

I totally hadn't even thought about photoshopping her out... I just looked at the picture. It really wouldn't be that hard, especially considering she's standing against a textured solid color background. Excellent idea, Tammy!

She's perfect to be cloned out!! She's not overlapping with ya'll at all! Just clone some grass and sidewalk and she's gone!:)

Lovely though I'm sure she is...

Honestly, I knew with 100% certainty that Brett and I neither one would smash the cake in the other ones face. You know all those pictures you see of kids with food all over their faces? Those middle of the afternoon pictures are tricky, but they really do look great!

Absolutely stunning. It was an intimate affair on a grand scale (if that makes sense) and everyone looked amazing. I love the fact that the fireworks went off at the start of your ceremony, that's Disney Magic at it's finest!

Your vows....*sigh*....fantastic!

The leis were beautiful and I am very impressed with how they turned out. They look like they were shipped in from Hawaii. I might have forgotten to mention that in a previous post.

I think it's awesome that you had the cake and champagne on Sunset Pointe. Was that something you had requested or was it part of your wedding package?

Absolutely, Jessica... you're being kind, we both know it was past time. :ROFLOL:

The fireworks shocked me. When it happened, a huge grin crossed over my face. Brett totally noticed them too. I think he mentioned it to me when we were dancing, he hadn't realized that I saw them, too. Sooo cool. Pixie dust is right!

Thank you so much for the compliments. I loved my dress and I'm glad to hear you see the tie-in with the location.

OMG here I go again, Holly you make me seriously want to get married all over again. Do you think I could convince the hubs? Because right now, I really want to.

And yes I am tearing up once again.

I thought it couldn't get better but it did. Your ceremony was gorgeous. And the vows were beautiful.

Oh yeah... I see a vow renewal in your future! :sohappy: Maybe Sunrise Terrace at the Wilderness Lodge?! That's one of your favorite resorts, right? Call me! I'll help you work up a very convincing proposal for Andy! :D

And thank you.

Its funny, I am in a wedding in a few weeks and she is sitting here talking about how many people aren't coming. But you know what? I am sitting here looking at yet more incredible photos and I am looking at the closeness of everyone. And I am thinking. There that is what matters. They are what matters. You guys just look so darn happy....I will have to try to come up with a caption but Bretts face is classic.

I think you're so right about the pros to having a small, intimate ceremony. I wanted the day to be about myself and Brett and our relationship. If I had constantly been worrying about whether or not people were enjoying themselves... then I would not have been able to focus on what I found to be most important. I know me, and I would've been working the room, the thing that would have suffered for that would have been my attention on us.

That being said... big weddings are fun, lots of fun! But I prefer to be a guest at those.

Thanks, Shannon. I remember the wedding picture you posted and your hair looked great... wearing it up fell into the "best decision ever" category!

I can relate with having some...I don't know, regrets?...after the wedding. We've been married almost 2 years and I keep going back over it in my mind and thinking about what I would change...but more than that I do remember everything that went right during the day. Hopefully you will, too.

I think it's hard not to "wish" for a few little changes here and there. I'm chalking it up to human nature. That and I think it's a girl thing.

You can even make out the castle in the bokeh of one or two of those shots. How cool is that?!

The cake may have turned out too simplistic due to my fear of it being too much. But honestly, I really don't care that much. I loved my ribbon and how it matched my bouquet. Plus, I'm really glad I didn't spend any extra money on the cake. They wanted like $50 to put one mini calla lily on it. No thanks!

Isn't it funny, or I should say ironic, to think that a person who deals in human interactions needs to work on his people skills?!

She's perfect to be cloned out!! She's not overlapping with ya'll at all! Just clone some grass and sidewalk and she's gone!:)

Lovely though I'm sure she is...
We were the same way. We talked before and agreed it was not us at all.

It's part of the package to have your cake/champagne at the ceremony location. The same happens at Seabreeze Pointe (over at the Boardwalk) and all the other locations, except for the Wedding Pavilion. Those take place at Commander's Terrace (an area over at the Grand).

Wooohooo... more classy cake eating, I say!

I loved the ceremony!! thanks for posting it all, I do feel a little underdressed attending your wedding in my pjs, but it was a few days ago so I guess it´s not important anymore... may I add I´m wearing purple pjs though, I could easily blend in :p

ok, Brett`s face in the signing pic cracked me up as well, so I´ll take the risk of actually captioning it, here is my version of what was going through his mind:
¨now wait a minute! I know I look younger than I am, but seriously, messing up my birthdate?? turns out according to this I´m a married teenager... great! what´s next? an invitation to Disney Grad night as a wedding gift?¨:lookaroun (I know, silly, but please keep in mind that I´ve been working all day and I´m exhausted)

Please don´t keep us waiting too long for the next set of posts... I don´t know if I can take it, I think I´m in love with you guys as a couple, and even more as a married one now...:sohappy:

Tears. Lot's of 'em.
The picture of Brett looking at the castle paired with your paragraph about your excitement to marry "the man of your dreams" - tears. The picture of Brett's huge smile as he is looking at you - more tears. Picture of you hugging Brett's mom w/the leis? - most tears.

I love all the pictures but my favorite is that of Brett kissing you w/his hand on your face/neck area and you can see his wedding ring. LOVE this pic. Best one of you guys, ever. It just totally captures how in love you guys are and how excited you are to be married and starting your lives together as an Ohana. <-- (cheesy? a bit. but you love it) If you have a Facebook, this picture should definitely be your profile picture.

I'm sure there are plenty of tears to come but I don't mind. OH and about me writing a trip report....hmmm we'll see if we have something to report on.:animwink: Between this next trip and a possibly trip in September...I'm sure one of them will get a trip report - maybe.
