A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes: A March 2011 Disney Wedding/Honeymoon Trip Report

It’s official! Brett and I are finally married and I couldn’t be more excited. We had the most perfect wedding day ever, at our most favorite place in the whole entire world. And of course, as expected, it went by all too quickly. I’m not going to lie, coming down off the high that was our Disney wedding/cruise/honeymoon has been tough. In fact, I'm hoping that writing up/posting this trip report will help me work through some of that. However, I’ve spent much of my spare time in the last few weeks staring at a blank word document... writer’s block? Never heard of it!

For the first time ever, in all my trip report writing, I did a pre-trip report. It lays out most of the wedding-related details, but for those of you out there who are like me and rarely read pre-trip reports, here’s a quick rundown of events:

Wednesday, March 16, 2011: Drive down, check in offsite for the night
Thursday, March 17, 2011: Check-in, Disney’s Polynesian Resort
Friday, March 18, 2011: Wedding Day, Sunset Pointe
Sunday, March 20, 2011: Board Disney Dream for a 4 night Bahamas cruise
Thursday, March 24, 2011: Check-in, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
Sunday, March 27, 2011: Check out and head home

We kind of saw this trip as having three legs: Wedding/Cruise/Disney!

A look back at our Disney trip reports: September 2008 (Contemporary), December 2008 (Old Key West), January 2009 (Port Orleans Riverside & Disney Marathon), July 2009 (Wilderness Lodge Villas/Animal Kingdom Lodge), December 2009 (Beach Club Villas), March 2010 (Pop Century & Princess Half), June 2010 (Coronado Springs), August 2010 (Polynesian & Engagement), December 2010 (Kidani Village)

This was our first time on DCL, however, we’ve cruised a handful of times before. So if anyone is interested, those trip reports can be found here: May 2009 (Carnival Liberty), December 2009 (Royal Caribbean Monarch of the Seas), May 2010 (Emerald Princess), June 2010 (Norwegian Sky)

Oh dear. I feel like I’m embarking on what will be the longest trip report EVER (and I’ve written some long ones). My apologies in advance, as it will likely take awhile to get this report up in its entirety. The good news though, is that I’ve completed the text all the way up through the wedding, so we’ll get to that part fairly quickly!

With all that said, let the memories begin...

Hi, Jess! Nice to put a name with an avatar!

I'm glad to hear you've put the take-home test behind you. Those are NEVER fun.

You know, it's funny you mention the Royal Wedding, I could not have cared less about all the coverage leading up to it, and in fact got sick of it. And then when I saw images of it later I was fascinated. I mean, really, true live storybook princess material, right there! I kept thinking, under all of the pomp and circumstance, they are no different than the rest of us. It's just a girl walking down an aisle to marry a boy. I would've never withstood that kind of pressure, so kudos to Kate and Will.

The Poly, in my opinion, is the stuff dreams are made of, so I hope you get your chance to stay there one day. And thank you so much for the compliments and well wishes. I loved the back of my dress, too. As much as I didn't want a corset to begin with, the corset is what added just enough detail to the back of that dress.

I would recommend a Disney wedding 100%, and so would Brett. Best decision EVER.

I definitely have to agree with you, even though I didn't like the hype definitely classic princess :)

So I know in the future, if I have any Disney wedding questions I hav ea feeling I'll come right over to you! :D

The pictures of you and Brett during your first dance has to be one of my favorites so far, you can just see all the love you guys have for each other and how amazing it is. Also, you just happened to pick the BEST Disney song (and my favorite if you couldn't tell ;)) so beautiful it fit perfectly in with your wedding.

And those birds when I saw that picture I instantly thought they were all flying about celebrating your marriage!

The leis looked beautiful on all of you! And the color purple just fit in so well (it happens to be my favorite color too) Everything just fit the two of you and the location so perfectly. I cannot wait to see and read the rest of it!

I too am ashamed I attended your wedding in a t-shirt and sweats

The ceremony was absolutely stunning. My favorite part was the words about "hands" ... just beautiful !!!

Thank-you for my morning cry ! It started with the picture of Brett from behind ..... One of my favorite pictures. He had the biggest smile throughout the ceremony.....

Thank you for letting me share this special day...... :sohappy:

Love that you did the blessing of the hands - so beautiful

Amazing pictures - you really had such a perfect day!

As for Kevin Knox - he also left immediately after our ceremony. I tured to thank him and he was gone...

ahhhhhh i LOVE it! what a beautiful ceremony!! and that picture of you and brett with the cake is one of my favorites! i also love the picture of brett smiling when he saw you walking down the aisle. he just looks so happy! i love it! great song choices for the ceremony and the dances. and the leis were a wonderful touch! what a great addition to your ceremony to tie in your location and your love of lilo and stitch and ohana!! i just can't tell you how much i love it all!!! congrats again!!!

Thank you, Ashley! I love the cake picture, too! We're HUGE music fans and there are so many different songs out there that I would have loved to use. To help narrow down the field, we decided to stick with ALL Disney music. This definitely worked for us, plus, some of the songs we would have chosen, the violinist likely would have had to learn. That is actually one of the few things I *missed* about a big wedding when planning it. I know Brett and I would have had so much fun putting a play list of sorts together.

I'm already having trouble deciding on a song for a video montage of the shots. So many choices!

Love all the kissing and staring at each other pictures..That is what LOVE is and does to you!

All the Fairytale cliches ( that is what you call em I think) fit you guys..and it is AMAZING!

Dreams Do Come True!
Love is in the Air!
Meant to be!
Happily Ever After!

You guys are what Disney means..Happiness, Dreams, Ohana..

I am crying again!..

You're making me melt over here. :)

I'm glad you love those shots of us kissing/staring each other down, because there are many more where they came from.

I love the Ohana rings! Nice touch.

Thank you.

I loved the ceremony!! thanks for posting it all, I do feel a little underdressed attending your wedding in my pjs, but it was a few days ago so I guess it´s not important anymore... may I add I´m wearing purple pjs though, I could easily blend in

ok, Brett`s face in the signing pic cracked me up as well, so I´ll take the risk of actually captioning it, here is my version of what was going through his mind:
¨now wait a minute! I know I look younger than I am, but seriously, messing up my birthdate?? turns out according to this I´m a married teenager... great! what´s next? an invitation to Disney Grad night as a wedding gift?¨ (I know, silly, but please keep in mind that I´ve been working all day and I´m exhausted)

Please don´t keep us waiting too long for the next set of posts... I don´t know if I can take it, I think I´m in love with you guys as a couple, and even more as a married one now...

Purple pajamas? Perfect!

Funny you mention Brett looking younger than he is... he gets that a lot!

Here's the thing... I'm trying, desperately, to get the whole wedding day up before I leave (which is tomorrow, by the way)! So there may just be a mid-day post today! If I can manage that then I think I'll be able to get it all done; otherwise, it'll be Monday before there's another update and I really hate breaking up the day for that long.

Tears. Lot's of 'em.
The picture of Brett looking at the castle paired with your paragraph about your excitement to marry "the man of your dreams" - tears. The picture of Brett's huge smile as he is looking at you - more tears. Picture of you hugging Brett's mom w/the leis? - most tears.

I love all the pictures but my favorite is that of Brett kissing you w/his hand on your face/neck area and you can see his wedding ring. LOVE this pic. Best one of you guys, ever. It just totally captures how in love you guys are and how excited you are to be married and starting your lives together as an Ohana. <-- (cheesy? a bit. but you love it) If you have a Facebook, this picture should definitely be your profile picture.

I'm sure there are plenty of tears to come but I don't mind. OH and about me writing a trip report....hmmm we'll see if we have something to report on.:animwink: Between this next trip and a possibly trip in September...I'm sure one of them will get a trip report - maybe.

A September trip?! When did this one become a possibility? Soooo exciting. You know that's it's Food and Wine time, right? Oh the possibilities...

And let me just say, I love your writing style - all the more reason to write TWO trip reports!

I adore that picture, too (it's actually a crop of the former picture :lookaroun). And lemme just say... wedding band=sexy. There, I said it! I think it was Rachel (popsicletrees) who mentioned it in my engagement trip report, but she said how after we got married, it would be so weird to look back at pictures of him without his ring on. So true.

I definitely have to agree with you, even though I didn't like the hype definitely classic princess :)

So I know in the future, if I have any Disney wedding questions I hav ea feeling I'll come right over to you! :D

That's right... Disney wedding questions? I'm your girl!

The birds... oh, the birds. It was so funny because when we were first looking through the disc of images Jason sent us, we were both like "OMG the birds!"

I tried really hard to make it all "fit..." the ceremony, location, dress, leis, etc. So I'm really happy to read that.

I too am ashamed I attended your wedding in a t-shirt and sweats

It's called the "Blessing of the Hands," and it was the one element that I just knew I wanted to make sure we included. So personal, and so touching. One of my favorite parts of the ceremony. That and then the ring/lei exchanges.

LOVE that picture of Brett. I think he looks so handsome.

Would you book him again? I was asking myself that question when I read through all my semi-negative comments on him. The thing is, I probably would. I didn't have enough issues with him to be turned off completely, but I guess I didn't have the highest of expectations for any officiant that I would be meeting for the first time the day of the wedding. Ron Rosenzweig was actually my first choice (I think because he was like $75 cheaper), but he was booked. I wonder how he would've done.

And thank you, by the way.

I LOVE the cake! Especially the purple ribbon! I would have NEVER thought of pairing that together!

Your cake topper looks somewhat like mine I had for my shower, the MD I work for is always finding me Disney trinkets in obscure places, and I think she found this at an antique store...

I just love everything so far!!!! I have to admit though, I'm impatiently excited about the limo ride and the "surprise event" :ROFLOL:

Holly, beautiful ceremony! It seemed perfect and magical in every way! You and Brett are a great looking couple and now (even more than before) WDW will ALWAYS have a special place in your hearts!
You have a way of telling a story that is captivating... Can't wait for more!

I reverted back to my lurker ways the past few months, but I have to post to say congratulations to you and Brett, Holly! Your ceremony was beautiful, and your dress and your hair and the awesome leis you and your mom made and... Well, I could gush about everything! Oh, and the adorable flip-flops! It looks like you had a wonderful day and I eagerly anticipate reading about the rest, after I get back from Disney because I'm leaving in less than seven hours. :sohappy: Congratulations again!

Thanks, Jon. You're right about it being even more special now. I think it's so cool that we'll be able to point at Sunset Pointe while riding around on the monorail, or the ferry, and say "we got married there!" I really appreciate your compliments on my story-telling! I love writing so much.

Oh dear heavens... this TR is epic! I feel like I should be in a cocktail dress to read it. My husband came up over the stairs last night and saw me crying while I was reading. He said, "what the heck is wrong?" I said, "I'm reading a trip report!" He was like "ummmm, ok!?!" I said, "No, no, you don't understand, this isn't just a trip report, it's like a chick flick but in trip report format!"

So, what can I say that hasn't already been said... it's amazing... the whole thing is amazing! You were a stunning a bride and everything seemed to suit you perfectly (hair, flowers, dress, etc.).

I know you say you have one regret and you're disappointed about missing pictures... but you do have amazing pictures. Trust me, if you saw my wedding pictures you would probably start a charity in our name just so we could get married again. We got married years ago and we were young and poor students at the time. Our wedding was perfect for that time and place in our lives. But my pictures are cheap and it shows... and there was no such thing as digital cameras either. But guess what? It doesn't matter now! Yes, your wedding day will always be important to you and you will always look back on the pictures but it does fad over time. Other things become important... the life you create together! And one of these days, if you have any little hollybelles running around the house, the next thing you know, pictures of your babies become the most important. You'll be moving wedding pictures out of the way to put up the ones of the little cuties in your lives.

We used Ron for our ceremony. He was very good. The poor man showed up to our ceremony with Kidney stones and left for the emergency room right after. He did such a good job though that I didn't even have a clue that he was sick until after the wedding.

Your photos are breathtaking and your dress was made for you. You're a stunning bride Holly! I'm so happy you went with Beaute Speciale! My feelings about them are the same as yours. They are very talented ladies and do such a great job of putting brides at ease. I would use them again in a heartbeat.

Congratulation to you and Brett, your fairytale is only just beginning! :sohappy:

GUH...jealous!

Okay, after having re-read everything up to this point (because I am a nerd), 2 things I forgot to say:

Love the purple ties on the men. They all looked quite sharp...Brett especially. I loved the purple tie/grey suit combo. Very nice!

And secondly, the whole "Now you shall feel no rain..." portion of your ceremony...I was re-reading that, wondering where I'd heard it, when it dawned on me - we used that reading in our ceremony too! Great minds think alike, no?

I would book him again. Besides the few minor issues, I thought he was good, especially considering we only meet 5 minutes before the ceremony. He seemed like a nice man and we enjoyed the ceremony - for the most part I was happy.

Next, it was time for our “first dance.” But before that we had to bustle my dress. I assure you, on more than one occasion, mom had managed to bustle my dress just fine, but for some reason Karen felt the need to stick around and supervise. It kinda sucks because I would, obviously, like for it to just be my mom and I in this picture. Notice though, at that moment in time, I had not a care in the world. I was just enjoying my champagne… and my man!

For our first dance we chose “Part of Your World” from the Little Mermaid. It was Brett’s suggestion. It’s part of my favorite scene from one of my favorite attractions, Philharmagic! And the instrumental version makes me melt. Most importantly though, swaying along to the violin, and staring into Brett’s eyes, simply made me feel complete. We were married. It was that first little moment of quiet recognition for me.

Have you had enough of us yet?!

No, we have not had enough!! That's what weddings are all about...you can just see the joy in both of your faces!! These photos are wonderful and fully capture the moment! You can just tell that both of you are over the moon!! You definitely need to frame some of these and put them around your house (now look at me being your interior decorator...sorry:ROFLOL:), but the photos are spectacular!!! I also love the one of you and Brett kissing while your mom bustles your dress! Way to multi-task!! Again, it just shows the pure unbridled joy of the moment!! These are great photos!!
