It may not have even been rot. Do we know what the chassis and platforms were built out of? Aluminum and pressure treated wood would be my choice.

The real story could be that it was cost prohibitive to rehab the whole parade. Degredation of electrical components like lights, wiring and sound, and tertiary support structures. If not aluminum and treated lumber, then rust, water infiltration, pest infiltration, UV maybe, but they were kept in tents, but for how long is the question.

Spectro had to grow on me much like Epcot Center did. The music was fairly good after all. I grew up from 75 to 91 each year with MSEP, so of course I preferred it more.

Nobody is wrong in their feelings on this. Some liked it better, others did not. The question for TDO is will they build a new parade that surpasses Spectro and MSEP?

Oh and what is a CTM performance?
CTM=Celebrate the Magic show

Nope, look to Disneyland instead.

Here is a photo of the parade before the masks were removed (taken in January 2006). They didn't seem as odd to me in person as they do now (did these doll characters have a name?). I still listen to the music from the show pretty regularly and so I join with the rest who hope the music will be kept.

Nice photo...thanks for sharing.
I had forgotten about how Spectro still used the old, original WDW Logo in it's title float.
Cool to be reminded of that.

What does Disneyland have at night?

I think the doll characters are called the Spectromagic Sprites.

I was born in 94 so I grew up with MSEP and that will always be my favorite, but this news is really devastating to me. How dare they get rid of Spectro, and without announcing it. Ugh! Why can't they ever do something that makes sense or try to please their fans?

One final thought in this thread ... Both Anaheim and Hong Kong are both getting new state of the art night parades in the next two years. TDL, which debuted the amazing Dreamlights in 2001, has just updated it for the third time. That park is getting a new projection show based on DLP's Dreams show entitled Once Upon a Time.

MK's night schedule could remain this stale for years with Wishes scheduled for replacement in 2015 OR 2016 depending on when it can be slotted into the budget. There is no, to my great knowledge, new night parade on the agenda for MK.

That's good news! It had been quite the saga to have Disneyland left with only three major entertainment spectaculars; Fantasmic!, fireworks, and an afternoon parade that changes every few years. Mickey's Soundsational Parade is wonderfully done, as is most of the stuff Steve Davison produces, but the lack of a night parade at Disneyland has been a rare miss for the Anaheim property.

Good to know a night parade is returning to Walt Disney's Magic Kingdom, and a brand new one at that. And the way things go with parades, it might even get sent out to WDW after a half decade or so.

Dear lord!!! Crying as I read this (and so glad that you my WDWMagic friends are too, regular folks just dont get it) I cant believe they just crushed it ...I cant even imagine watching that, it is like a funeral...I know my girls grew up seeing that too every yr since 2000. Seeing it every time at least once during our trip, and yes it is nice to see MELP, it still was and is no Spectro.....And the kids have been asking as our trip is getting closer if it"ll be back....I'll probably break out crying telling them...Well so glad I have it on video (as the hubby always busts my chops about recording the same things on our trips , now its a good thing)...Soooo freakin sad...I know I'll be blasting that on my way to work today! RIP Spectro :(

Unbelievable, were down to the bare bones and its going to stay that way. The only hope is after the new night parade debuts at DL, that a TDO exec with a brain (theres gotta be a couple of them somewhere mixed in with all the neanderthals) will think "hmm its time to implement something like that here, maybe for the 50th." But unlikely I know. Time for TDO under new managment, gosh they make me mad.

I'm not sad to this this one go. maybe because when I was a cast member I saw Spectro 999999999x and I was sick of it. I prefer MSEP over Spectro but wish they would come up with something new.
