I know this is sad news, but maybe they are making way to build a new storage area for the new floats that are coming in. For Disney to grow, it has to get rid of the things that its hurting them. Spectro in bad shape, taking up space, its just easier to toss it away. Those who have seen this glimmering, shimmering parade of Disney are very lucky. the music is amazing and the spectro men took everything to the next level. The parade is my favorite nighttime parade. Dreamlights is amazing but it carrys on the idea of MSEP.

I remember Spectro as 50% solid black floats with lit outlines, and street "performers" who mostly walked and flung their arms about. MSEP has more color and better dance choreography.
There are plenty of floats in MSEP that are "mostly black with lit outlines". The train float with the MSEP logo is a good example of that, and there's a lot of black on the pirate ship and even Elliot the dragon. Spectro has floats with black parts to them as well, but there are still plenty of densely lit Spectro floats such as the peacock, carousel and Mickey's float. Both parades have this equally from my extensive viewing of both. And both needed upgrades equally to address this (Spectro never will be unless a new parade is made, and MSEP will likely be run to failure, neglected and eventually scrapped like Spectro once it has run its course).

The street performers in both parades are equally dull. Besides the Disney-specific characters anyways. But any of the street performers like the ones dressed as dragonflies or butterflies in BOTH parades just do a generic march and occasionally turn around a time or two and wave their arms around. The only decent choreography i've seen in parades that run almost every day is probably Disneyland's current day parade.

The float designs in Spectro blow the original MSEP out of the water. And IMO the music, i'm not a fan of MSEP's music (though the Dreamlights variant is a massive improvement and made me appreciate it a bit more).

I'm mentally pouring one out for Spectromagic. Sigh...I loved it so.

Maybe it was just me but aside from the better music and better use of the main characters, I always felt you could just see that parade better. Even 5 people or more back, everything was high and clearly visible whereas MSEP it seems more and more to me like everything is so low and hard to follow.

It made butterflies in my stomach whenever the trumpeteers would whiz left and right with the music...man, what a cool parade. RIP.

Over on micechat, a new press release from HKDL came out and the new night parade is supposed to be bigger than TDR!!

Will DL's be on the same level as MSEP/Spectro/Fanti?

Will HKDLs and DLs be identical parades? And are we sure the parade will be going to DL? DCA has the new longer parade route.. if this is going to be a major light parade I would think they would want to use DCAs route?

Apparently, DCA is also getting some sort of parade.

DL's parade route is efficient, though.

here's some interesting facts about MSEP & Spectro some of you might bnot know:
WDW's Original MSEP was built in California at the same time as Disneyland's version was getting it's 1977 maKeover. Spectro was buil;t entierly from the ground up in WDW's CebntraL Shops
the inspiration for some of Spectro's floats came from the MSEP: the Little Mermaid float was derived from the Briny Deep float that ran in the Main Street Electrical Parade from '77-'84.
MSEP & Spectro were both designed by Parade Designer Ken Dresser

Gotta say this thread and our upcoming trip prompted us to watch dvd"s of our previous disney trips, yeah hearing the starting trumpets notes and looking for the begining of the parade, cried watching it....It for the longest time was the only nitetime parade our kids knew....But I guess (hopefully ) bigger and better is in the works...So sad though, we just watched last nite and all of us we"re so somber watching it, quite pitiful actually, lol!! Oh well, I remember being the same way when they stopped running the " Fantasy In the Sky" (although maybe not as depressed , lol) ,,,,But so love Wishes and the music, ,,,,may have to watch that later!

The only way I'll be able to forgive TDO for this tragedy is if a Dreamlights style SpectroMagic is created for the park. Its one thing to announce the end of a run for a parade. Its another thing entirely to put a parade on hiatus, announce that it will return eventually, let several years go by so that it rots and the vast majority forget about it, and then promptly destroy it without a single word to those who were incredibly fond of it. Spectro deserved a better send off than this, and unless a new nighttime parade is in the works, there is no way to justify this happening, not at all. Is there a way I can contact the people in charge of this and give them a piece of my mind? I have absolutely had it with TDO.
