Who has seen the Potter movie and your thoughts?

Saw the movie this afternoon...

I will play Devil's advocate, and say that I really enjoyed the ending how it was portrayed. I don't disagree that the ending in the book was huge and rewarding, however I feel like it would've been out of place in this film. Overall, I think they made a HUGE character piece out of this movie, and they needed to let that play out in the final act. From the little things found in the irony of the lovey-dovey stuff contrasted with the destiny of Draco/Harry, it all was building to the powerful climax of what we saw. It was heart-wrenching in itself, because of the story and the characters...even without a CGI induced wizard fight. All of this, of course, is IMHO.

I must be the only person who didn't really care for the climax as portrayed the book. I have trouble getting invested in long, drawn-out fights involving a couple dozen characters. To me, there are three or four characters whose actions are central to the plot in that spot, surrounded by a bunch of background noise. I was glad they kept the focus on those central characters in the movie.

Ohh if they cut Dobby out, I will be so sad :(

They won't, there was a picture that surfaced on line that showed Harry holding a small body covered in blankets labeled "the burying of dobby" so its more than likely he'll be back.

BTW, for those complaining about a lot being left out from the book in the movie, just be happy it didn't get the Eragon treatment where it barely had anything from the book at all. The movie stayed pretty close to the book as far as movie from book adaptions go.

But won't Dobby have to be in the 7th movie? Or would they cut that whole section out?

He'll be in the last one, but one wonders if the movie only people will have the emotional attachment to him that the book people have. He was always around helping Harry when he could, it's sad to me that the character been pretty much ignored by the movies.

We saw it Saturday and loved it!

We don't read the books though and were confused by a few things like what significance does the name "Half Blood Prince" hold??
Maybe this will be explains in the next movie.

~*~*~SPOILER~*~*~ (Highlight for the answer.)

Snape was the owner of that Cliff-Notes potions book. He's a half-blood wizard.

Well, I went Friday with my 8 year old and really did enjoy it. She said she loved it but during the movie kept asking me what was going on. My wife did not get to go so will go again with her I hope. I want her reaction as she did not read the book and want to see if she can follow along. I wonder if I was able to only because I read the book.

I am also upset not with just this movie but steadily some of the, not what you would call main characters, but extremely important ones are only showing in cameo experiences if at all. The Weasleys, Lupin, Tonks, McGonigal (I can not believe how much she has aged), ett. I with they were in it more.

I agree, it should have been 2 movies as a lot was left out.

All that being said, I did really enjoy it even if it does not sound like it. I pretty much liked all that I saw, I just wish there was more to be seen...

-Was too little of the trips into the pensive. I was looking forward to seeing the Dark Lord's family.
-The lack of a battle of Hogwarts was upsetting.
-No Dobby still. I doubt he will be in it ever again which I don't understand. -He is CGI, no actors pay...
-The whole Half Blood Prince story in the book is almost completely left out. -It was almost not even part of the movie.
-I doubt anybody who did not read the book had a clue what the heck Harry shoved down Ron's throat when poisoned.

Actually all your problems with the movies are the exact same ones I had.

I really wanted to see them delve into the pensive more to see more of Tom Riddle's past...and was really disappointed when I saw that they hadn't. That and the missing fight scene were the two that I had the biggest disappointment with. (And I agree that the expalaination of what HBP means was very poor...)

For all of you who are worried about Dobby being left out of movie 7 or 8, fear not. Those scenes have been filmed already at Bill and Fleur's (same actress from GoF) Shell Cottage.

The movie was easily the best since PS and CoS, but the ending left alot to be desired. Draco worked all year to find a way to get the Death Eaters in the Castle just so they can watch him do what Lord Voldythingy wanted him to do?

The layout of the Astronomy Tower, Harry just standing there (unpetrified and uninvisible and Snape seeing him and leaving him alone), was all wrong. This scene really is my biggest gripe. (Book) Harry would never just stand there and watch this happen no matter what Dumbledore or (especially) Snape told him.

My other problem is the lack of horcrux discussion (possible horcruxes and locations) and Riddle memories.

I thought the same thing. Hard to believe Harry would just stand there while..."stuff" went down.

But I can sympathize with the filmmakers' dilemma. Trying to film it like in the book (Harry Stupefied and under the cloak) would be shooting empty space. Harry couldn't even talk at that point in the book, so without using some kind of corny "inner monologue" device for Harry, it would be almost impossible to wring any drama out of that moment on the screen.

I have not read the book...and saw the movie last night.

I truly want my money back. IMO, this is the WORST of the HP movies. Nothing happened...nothing was explained...it was just 2 1/2 hours of NOTHING! Maybe it was ok for those that read the book because they could piece things together...but I was completely bored out of my mind and it just went...NOWHERE!

The "seeing into the memories" was really cool...I loved how they did that and it was the only redeeming quality of the entire movie IMO.

If this is how it's going to be with the next one...I think I'll pass.

Helena Bonham Carter was awesome...she nailed that character...but she was in it so little.

Maybe it was just me...and maybe I was in the wrong frame of mind or not really in the mood for it...who knows...but I have loved all the other films and thought this was just horrid. So lackluster compared to what was shown in the trailers.

1. No explanation at all of what the book of the Half Blood Prince was...and once it was hidden...that was it.

2. The horcuxes...or whatever...they explained what they were...and that was it.

3. Was there any bit of "action" in this?

Also, I came to the conclusion that R.A.B. is Sirius' brother...because they blatantly threw his name out for the first time when they really didn't need to.

I know it's probably not the case...but I would've made Harry actually be Voldemort. Now that would be a cool twist. (I haven't read past the 4th book). Both speak parceltongue...and he could've made one of the horcuxes out of Harry's glasses...or scar...or something.

I gave it 5 out of 10 stars. Those 5 stars are all "effects" related...and a hint of Helena.

As someone who has read all of the HP books and can't remember much about what happened in this one, I really liked it.

Pros)
1. Great Special Effects. The Ring of Fire scene was very well created and the look of the film was spectacular.
2. Great Acting, especially with Jim Broadbent as Horace Slughorn.
3. Good Musical score. (Could've used a bit more of "Hedwig's theme" if you ask me)
4. Fast paced. Never gets slow.
5. Nice humour.

Cons)
1. Not much explanation of the Half Blood Prince.
2. Some characters were underused, such as Tonks, Remus Lupin, and Voldemort.
3. The finale was a little flat. Where was everybody when the Death Eaters were roaming the castle?
4. No Dobby.
5. The subway station scene with the girl was completely pointless.
6. Quidditch scenes were far too short, especially with Ron.

Overall, the director could have been more careful of what he cut out but it was a great film.

You are..er..on to something. There was a clue in the movie (towards the end) that should have lead you on this path.:zipit:
