I can't stop smiling....it still hasn't sunk in that we won. Where we were 4 years ago to where we are now---- I'm so glad my grandparents didn't live to see Katrina but sad they didn't get to see last night

If you were from here you would understand and feel differently...

I honestly don't think I would

It's not even a New Orleans thing, it's a vaudeville / minstrel show / jazz thing. Sure they had that in NO, but it was also in a lot of other places.

I know, it's the chant of your local team, and you take it to heart. If I lived in the area and was a Saints fan, i would likely feel the same emotional tie to the chant, however I would most likely still think it was irritating.

We say it even when it is not football season..I was in WDW once and my husband had a Saints hat on and someone screamed Who Dat and waved to us..and we screamed it back!..It is what we do..:D

Like you said..it all comes down to your own personality and people like different things!..

We like Who Dat!..and we will continue to say it, wear it, sing it, scream it..whatever!

:D

Exactly, it's up to you.

I still find it quite annoying.

And I thought we (the NY/NJ metro area) had some annoying sports habits.

I am a Rutgers fan and alumni, and while I will proudly do the cheer, I will also be the first to admit it is unwieldy, awkward, and most likely written by someone in need of a thesaurus.

R-U Rah Rah!
R-U Rah Rah!
Hoo-Rah! Hoo-Rah!
Rutgers Rah!
Upstream Redteam
Redteam upstream
Rah! Rah! Rutgers Rah

A lot more saints fans now than Friday.

Rich, coming from the Bandwagon Capital of the World...well co-capital with Dallas.

When you are born in New Orleans, you are automatically a Saints fan. It's just that it's hard to be a vocal fan when your team has been so bad historically. I've always been a vocal supporter, but that's just my personality. I love my teams, and I especially love the New Orleans Area. We are truly unique:king:

Also, many people around the country/world were rooting for us because of our recent history, our culture, and the outstanding group of guys on our team.

WHO DAT? WE DAT!:king:

As far as calling themselves "the Who Dat Nation" I am of the opinion that once a team / franchise / party starts to refer to themselves as a "nation" they really need to go back to the drawing board and blow the dust off of something else.

"The Who Dat Nation" was coined by former Saints QB, Bobby Hebert during his post game show in 2006 after we slaughtered the Cowboys. It had to do with the support we were getting from around the country due to Katrina (and the feel good story of coming back a year later and winning) as well our large fan base that exceeded the confines of just Louisiana (getting post game calls from around the country and even the world.) Many of our fans were displaced by that awful hurricane, but the Saints were the common ground that kept us together.

It's sort of the same today. Whether white or black, rich or poor, man or woman, we are ONE today in the New Orleans Metro Area and the Who Dat Nation. It's a good thing.

Things tend to take on bigger meanings down here.:xmas:

Just like everyone else.

Really

Every area has it's pride, it's traditions, it's values, it's recovery from disasters, it's uniqueness.

All teams have displaced fans. Take a look in the stands at any home game and you will find people with a visitors jersey on, no matter where that visitor is from.

I will grant you that as this is your first Super Bowl win, it does make it kind of special. So I understand all the excitment. That still does not change my opinion that they whole "Who Dat" chant is quite annoying.

It's also wrong. But that's being picky. The question is - in English "Who is that who says they are going to beat the Saints" In your sig above, you respond "we dat" so presumably it means the Saints say they are going to beat themselves? Even the response of "nobody" is technicaly wrong. Many people SAY they can beat the Saints. I can say I can beat them single handedly. A more apt response would be "Nobody can beat the Saints" But all of that is nit-picky. A chant is supposed to be catchy, not necessarly gramticaly correct. (But it is still annoying)

And as for the term "Who Dat Nation", the "Raider Nation" has been around much longer. Many teams, and not just in football, have their "whatever Nation" It is just another hackneyed team motto that some teams get stuck onto their name, and then the fans run with it.

Watch ESPNews at 7pm cst and see if you've ever seen a victory parade like we are about to throw.

We get it, you find it annoying, but I don't understand the need to be the "English Police" for a sports chant or the need to take it so literally. It's more about having something to shout, and "Who Dat" stuck sometime during the early 80's. As for "nobody" being the answer, it means: "Nobody can beat the Saints" if you do not nitpick and search for deep, literal meaning in every word.

Sports chants are hardly thoughtful or clever. For example, Colts: "Go Horse" or "Go Blue." At least ours is different, even if it isn't correct, perfect English:rolleyes:

And when I say "Who dat? We dat!" I'm not meaning for that to be an answer to the longer "chant." I'm just using it generally. Translate it as: "Who is the best?" "We are!"

I have no problem with being a part of the "Who Dat Nation" even if other teams tack it onto their names. I'm still failing to see the problem here. I can think of no better name for our amazing fanbase. It's also fun to hear on ESPN and NFL Network:king:

Well said! I find no problem in it either...It's all in fun. Why come off as being bitter and overly critical of something that's a playful part of the whole sport?

That's overstating it a bit, Dana. :animwink:

I remember thinking after the first two weeks of the season that this was a team to be reckoned with because of all the points they were scoring. And after they started 13-0, it became pretty clear they couldn't be counted out.

The Colts might have been the favored team, but it's not like most people assumed they were going to win by 3 touchdowns or that the Saints might as well stay home.

Nice post. Your 'skins are going to be a force to be reckoned with very soon IMO. The talent is mostly there. Shanahan is going to make a big difference. I look forward to yall giving New York and Dallas fits!

:ROFLOL:

After living in Redskin's country for the past 4 years, I've learned one thing: They will NEVER be good as long as Dan Snyder is in charge.

Well, you and all of us here in Louisiana....but from what so many people have said before the vikings game..no one believed us..no one thought we would make it to the Super Bowl..and there are people now who think we did not deserve it, we cheated :brick:,we play dirty...many many things that showed that not many did believe in us..and especially against Peyton Manning.

Congrats, Dana (and the rest of the Saints fans here)!! Fantastic offense, aggressive defense, gutsy coaching ... enjoy your championship. You never know when your team is going to win it, and it is amazing when it actually happens.
